Looking at the PL table there is now a distinct possibility that Duffer may be playing championship football next season. Every year there is always one team dragged into the bottom three near the very end of the season (reading, sheff utd etc) and i think newcastle could be in trouble.
Given Duff's wages and injury record its not likely a premier league club would snap him up either.
Whilst Given certainly left Newcastle at the right time, (he should left years ago imo), I just can't see the club being relegated. In any case - if such an event were to airse, Duff would definately be bought by a Premier League club.

This is silly, but a few months back, I went to Nevada Smiths (Which I never ever do wayyy to touristy) to watch Chelsea in the Champs league. Who walks in but Roman Abramonivich (hope I spelled that right) and some Russian model. I had no clue who he was at first and dont particularly care. But, he was a nice guy, ordering drinks for people, and I got a nice conversation in at halftime with him. I asked him about Duff, and he said, after a quick hesitation "Yeah, he just...what you see with him, you just think you will get more in the end." I said more goals? He said "Yes, more goals."
And thats the great conversation about Duff from one of the worlds richer men, and me, one of the worlds not richest men. Ha. Its true though.
I kind of agreed. People on here have said I am foolish as he is a set up guy but come on. He's always running around almost scoring or setting one up. Almost. I like him of course I just......I thought he would really go don as a great player. Maybe it's me. I admit of course, I certainly dont watch as much as you all.

As for Reading being great next season in the Premiership, I'm not so sure. They can score tonnes of goals but are as shaky as ever at the back.

That is IF they get promoted. For me, Birmingham and Wolves are pretty ordinary sides and they are not proving themselves to be better than those two so far.
I like Coppell and the Irish contingent at Reading, but they will be hard pressed to get promoted, and if they do it they'll have a fight on their hands to stay up.
In my view Reading have taken steps back from their first promotion, losing key figures such as Shorey, Kitson, and most vitally, Sidwell.
People may argue that Noel Hunt has proven an able replacement for Kitson, and that would be hard to argue, but Sidwell and Shorey have not been replaced by better players.

Drogba called him "one hell of a footballer". Ranieri said that signing Robben would be like having 2 Damien Duff's. Duff was actually better than Robben during their outstanding period together imo.
Since '05 Duff has been a different player (at club level anyway) but before that he was world class and certainly one of the best wingers in the world.
Has he got much left on his contract at Newcastle?? I wouldn't say it's enough to maintain an inflated transfer fee. Wages would be the only reason Duff couldn't move on should they ever be relegated so, injuries aside, he has some measure of control over the rest of his career...

One thing though to the above poster who is supporting the arguement that Duff is good by saying how hard he is to play against i mean then why isnt he reponsible for more goals. You know what the award for playing hard is called? The who cares award. Or in the NHL the Lady Bing Trophy.
I do think he is good but i would feel no happiness if we lose to Italy 2-0 and Duffer played well tried hard and ALMOST set up a few goals.......
