Are they having radio commentary for the cup game :).
hope the wind isnt too strong out there and ruin the day,, best of luck to both teams and hopefully a good game of competitive soccer.. good ref too in pat gleeson
If last years team were a better outfit surely it would mean that this years team have shown even greater character to return to the final. A bit of respect would not go amiss Play On. We've had to win five games to get to the final and have been the better team in most of the games so unless you were present at these games please keep your narrow mindedness to yourself. Also there has been another personal reason that has been driving this team on this season in the cup which I won't go into much detail here so if you want to ask the question 'does this team have bottle and character?'.....don't doubt it for a second!
I know what your talking about prem rep and regardless of the result ye have done that lad and yourselves proud again.. You can only beat who is in front of ye and hopefully ye can do that again Sunday in what will be a tough game but cup finals are there to be won
possibly a " bridge" too far this time though!
Avenue 2-0 Bridge
Wasn't a great game. Avenue could have hit 6, Barry Deasy in goal for the Bridge made some great saves and was man of the match imo. Thought the sending off of Smyth for a dive in the box was very harsh and should've been a penalty. Hard to argue with the ref(s) on the straight red for Murphy, the ball was gone and it was a late and dangerous lunge.
the cup final last night was brutal. bridge utd had ONE shot at goal in the whole 90 mins!! thought it was fairly cringeworthy that avenue brought out the area cup for the team picture afterwards..... them area cups are pointless and are pretty much a laughing stock that no other counties even play anymore
Hi, Any clubs around the Clare / Limerick area with an under 5's or 6's team.
If so, i look after a team " Shannon Hibs" and i'm trying to organise game for them.
PM me if your interested.
Thanks.
Congrats to Avenue on Cup win, better side on the night, we never got going and probably showed a bit too much respect. Saying that Avenue passed the ball well. Two sendings off were harsh with the one that probably should have been a sending going unpunished, that being the late tackle by the lad Smyth at on our full back. Potentialy that could have been 9 v 11 with 30 minutes to play, may have changed things. I feel as soon as the officials had a chance to even up the numbers they took it, although the referree would not have sent off Dom without the linesmans influence. Avenue player seemed fine once the red card was produced, a bit of gamemanship needed to win things I suppose.
Dave Mc scored a cracking goal and Con scored a great header so all in all we can have few complaints but lots of 'what if's' had a few more decisions gone our way!
Clare People
Lads do these boys do any research before they go to print. Seriously Avenue are Clare's Soccers most successful club ( since when Joe), HISTORIC tenth title (whats historic about it). A full two page spread of waffle. Mc Daid Poaching players for next year ( sure thats what they always do Joe, they are the leeches of Clare football sponging all around them). I wonder will he include this in his column from the ditch.
Well said Play_on... A bit of research wouldn't have went astray from them.
Newmarket Celtic - 15 League titles and 10 Clare Cups, Avenue Utd - 13 League titles and 10 Clare Cups
The maths on this are very simple Joe. 15 + 10 > 13 + 10
Joe has been writing crap on that paper for years... I wish the champion was out on a Tuesday they would send the clare people out of business... A simple thing like checking who the most successful team in clare is and he couldn't do that right.. Crap editor crap paper
Also, in their player ratings they gave Davy McCarthy a 9, Mikey Mahoney an 8, Colin Smyth an 8 and Albert Finnan a 7 and gave Albert Finnan Man of the Match, I don't quite understand that. Personally I'd have given MOTM to Deasy or Albert
Would be very surprised if they had a reporter at the game, I know that they didn't have anyone at the semi finals because they rang the clubs for match information.
They are a joke.. I would be suprised if they even knew what the word reporter means
Well lads - sorry for my absence for the last while but we had a virus in our consortium ! dealt with now i hope
1st congrats to the Blues sorry Reds - always new they would do it and great to see the parish keep the title as best club in clare having won the most titles in both league and cup { fact } -
2nd - congrats to AVE - nice to see thay got something out of the season considering they failed to win anything else with all the roaring and shouting , unlike them as they are the 2nd best club in the county { fact }
3rd - pity to see the RATS go - although they did set a record { fact } , its not one to be bragged about - like any RAT they'll climb they'er way back and maybe the rumours are right and the Rovers can assist !!!
4th - have to disagree with Second and PLayon - i had the honour of having an indept interview with Joe in 2009 and have to say he replayed it word for word in the CP { fact } - great reporter for the parish of NOF in both hurling and soccer and hopefully he'll get it right someday :) { fact }
O no Joe is part of the dhl consortium
2nd - congrats to AVE - nice to see thay got something out of the season considering they failed to win anything else with all the roaring and shouting , unlike them as they are the 2nd best club in the county { fact }
By reading this a few times trying to make sense of it I think youv'e got your <FACTS> wrong. We beat Rock in the FAI area and before ye all say its a crap trophy to win I agree its crap. Just pointing out it was 2 trophies for Avenue this season though. FACT
Sorry Mastermind - here you go - 2nd - congrats to AVE - nice to see they got something out of the season , considering they failed to win anything else , what with all the roaring and shouting , unlike them as they are the 2nd best club in the county { fact }
if you / your club start considering area finals as an achievement your on the wrong road - as has been mentioned before most counties have rubbished this cup because it has no value or significance - its like bringing an apple to an orchard , complete waste of time !!! :)
Its not rated by myself or the club and I agree it should be scrapped. So by this account we won 1 of the 2 trophies to play for in clare. Newmarket only dropping points in 3 games is some achievement. We progressed furthest in FAI from Clare and as far as any other team from Clare in Munster. Overall its still an ok season for Avenue
I heard the area cups will be scrapped from the 2011/12 season on. I would agree to scrap the Junior Area Cups but not the Youths, very little games in the youths now so no harm to continue them. They have to be scrapped at Junior level, last year Tulla didn't bother showing up for the FAI Area Final and this year Rock wanted to give Avenue a walkover but Avenue refused and the game had to be refixed

it good to know ye have some touch on realtity , by the way i didnt once suggest it wasnt a bad season , wining the cup obviously makes ye the best in Clare in that all the Clare teams are involved but coming 2nd in the elite league where its considered the best teams in Clare play is obviously a dissapointment -
makes sense
Mastermind who ye kidding .. If the area final means nothing to ye then why o why did ye bring it out for photos last Saturday evening
If a competition you enter has a prize at the end of it then why not go for that prize. I know the area finals are these days frowned upon but they used to mean something to clubs. Personally I hope they are scrapped as clubs clearly have no interest in them. That's for the Clare League to decide, I am sure the clubs can vote on it if it is brought up as a motion at the AGM, but if at the beginning of next season your club enters the FAI or MJC and the area competition still exists and you are one of the remaining teams in that competition then you should be duty bound to play the area competition to a conclusion. If it's a competition at the beginning of the season then it should be at the end. Failing to compete in it at the latter stages should result in some kind of punishment.
Aren't Cratloe Forest in the MJC Cup Area Final, I wonder what it means to them?
Let all clubs vote on whether the area finals remain, it's that simple.
As for the most successful club in Clare debate who is the 3rd most succesful, is there a large gap between No.1 Newmarket, No.2 Avenue and the rest, for those of us old enough to remember St. Micheals, would they have a few more than some of the clubs still around today?
I agree with you first.. But maybe the clare area finsls should be revamped .. With all due respect to clare clubs that have got out of clare in these competitions only Newmarket or avenue have the players to actually progress in these.. So why not play area finals in Feb or march if all clare teams are out.. This means 1 or 2 extra midweek games.. If clubs are pushing for local honours then they can keep lads on there toes by giving opportunities to fringe players and giving them good game time too.. Just an idea
Bridge cel 3-5 mountshannon .. Bridge Celtic relegated... Yahoo
Ya the area cups are handy to get players off 1 game suspensions because of yellow cards accumulated aren't they mastermind...... that's why avenue refused the walkover because they wanted to use that game as the game for 2 of their starting 11 to serve their 1 game bans..had that game not gone ahead then the lads would've been suspended for the cup final... avenue kicked up a big fuss to get the area final played and thats the reason. but even without half their team theyd have beat bridge
thats called good management from the ave manager to get the suspended players for the final
Planners I hear your the next manager of rovers .. Congrats good to see ex players keeping the club going
was hoping to manage the Rine Rats to be honest - we see how talks go
Do you honestly think I care what you think... I'm just delighted we won't have to travel there next year... The roads are brutal.. At least scariff is closer and better roads now
i would have classed Obriensbridge a better pitch than Mountshannon
