I know there are not people queuing up to run eL clubs but maybe they should require a licence too.
Ollie Byrne & fools like Seery should be banned from eL involvement for 10 years. Instead the FAI actually wished Seery well after his idiocy.
As usual once the details start to filter out eL fans opinions change... Kick Shels out, keepo wateford in the 1st division & hey presto got new 10 team league ahead of schedule.
This type of thing is old news to all of us but it can never be said too often:

Higgins you are deluded!
You have been given a first division license when you don't comply with the requirements and the "conditions" are that you have been given a grace period to get into compliance.
By all rights you should have been thrown out of the League (a la Limerick) as evidenced by the resignation of the Chairman of the First Instance Committee.
Your club is and has been treated unbelieveably leniently and yet you seem to have some kind of persecution complex.
Does Irish football owe you a favour or something?!?!
Mindblowing.
That's a very serious point and one that should be addressed post haste. Even the English FA have a (half-hearted) system of making sure directors and owners are fit to own clubs or serve as directors.
Tony Maguire, Ronan Seery, Ollie Byrne, Finbar Flood, Alan Duncan, Louis Kilcoyne etc should never ever be allowed to be involved in Irish football again. But in this country we reward (Kilcoyne) or praise (Seery) these shysters.

Hmmmm, reminds me of something that happened a few months back. As I was exiting Tolka after our 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Shels, the week after Dublin City's demise, one of their fans tapped me on the shoulder and said "Dublin City, hahaha, UCD, you're next, bang bang" with a smoking gun hand gesture.
You'd never guess it's mid-term would you
3 disableds (a blind man, an amputee, and a wheelchair-guy) are stranded in the middle of the Sahara Desert and waiting for someone to rescue them. They start to get thirsty, so they decide to seek out water. The amputee leads the way, with the blind man pushing the guy in the wheelchair; and, eventually they find an oasis. The amputee goes into the water first, cools himself down, drinks a load of water, walks out the other side and lo and behold, he has a NEW LEG! He gets excited and encourages his friends to do the same. The blind man offers to push the guy in the wheelchair, but he gets refused because the guy in the chair wants to be Mr Independent and insists the blind man goes ahead first. So he goes into the water, cools himself down, drinks a load of water, walks out the other side and lo and behold, he can SEE! Now the guy in the wheelchair's getting really excited, starts pushing with all his might, goes into the water, cools himself down, drinks a load of water, and wheels out the other side. Lo and behold, NEW TYRES!!!
Heard a rumour that Permanent TSB will be the next sponsors of Shels. A statement from the embattled football club cited the banks policy of applying no transfer fees, no late payment fees, no overdraft fees and no withdrawal fees as the main reason for their decision to accept the deal.

Shelbourne officials to meet on course of action
Emmet Malone Soccer correspondent
Thu, Feb 22, 2007
League of Ireland:Shelbourne officials hope to resume their deliberations today on how to respond to the decision by the FAI's First Instance Committee (FIC) to relegate them to the First Division.
The club has until Monday to appeal the punishment but some of its management committee members have expressed reservations about pursuing the matter while making it clear that they view the conditions attached to even their First Division licence as unreasonable.
The club has been told that it must pay all monies owed to players and the Revenue Commissioners by March 5th and that it must then submit a full set of accounts for review by independent auditors to be nominated by the FIC after which its First Division status would be looked at again. Club officials, including interim chairman Gary Brown, believe that the condition creates unreasonable uncertainty regarding even the club's medium-term future at a time that it urgently needs to set about recruiting a manager and players for the coming season - the deadline for signing players is next Wednesday after which it could only bring in free agents.
Provisional arrangements made on this front have been thrown into doubt by the outcome of Monday's FIC meeting. Some within Tolka Park initially took some small consolation immediately after that decision was announced from the reports that Liam Moggan, the committee's chairman, had resigned. It appears, however, that, while he has declined to comment on his departure, it was in fact motivated by a belief that Shelbourne had been too leniently rather than too harshly treated.
Brown insists, even accepting the punishment is not exactly a straightforward affair. "How are we supposed to go out and sign people on that basis?" he asks. "Do we tell them that we want them to come to the club and we'll pay them so much but that we might be out of business in a month? It's hard not to think that what is being imposed on Shelbourne Football Club here is death by a thousand cuts.

HOW ****ing dare the FAi insist that Shels pay back their debt. Shame on them
According to today's Indo the main barrier to Shels signing players is an unofficial PFAI embargo on its members signing for them until all monies owed to players is paid.
Which seems reasonable enough.
Gary Brown's comments are verging on the ridiculous, Shels have had 4 months since the end of the season to sort things out and the Kilkenny deal has been on the table much longer than that.
New poll added:
Will Shels start the 2007 season?
I think TMH has some manner of attention deficit disorder that he considers it necessary to use the same bait twice in a couple of days to wind people up...
JB - careful now! ;)
Bobby Charlton for a couple of games?

Shelbourne to accept their fate
Paul Buttner
League of Ireland: Reigning League of Ireland champions Shelbourne are believed to be set to announce today their intention not to appeal their demotion to First Division licence status.
With no manager and no team, the club are eager to finally put the decision of the FAI's First Instant Committee (FIC) of last Monday, that condemned them to relegation, behind them and prepare for the new season which begins in earnest a fortnight today. It also emerged yesterday that Alan Moore, the club's former Republic of Ireland international midfielder, is the chief candidate for their vacant managerial post. A full statement, or a hastily arranged press conference, regarding both pressing issues is expected from Tolka Park today following a further meeting of the club's board last night.
An appeal to the FIC's decision to relegate Shelbourne would have to be lodged by the club by Monday. While reluctantly accepting the decision to relegate them, the club are angered by the conditions of the decision, which stated that all debts to players (€147,000) and the Revenue Commissioners (€104,000) be paid by March 5th and, in particular, that they must then submit a further set of accounts for deliberation by the end of next month at which point their situation would be reviewed.
The club feel that despite their best efforts to right their situation, the threat they may be put out of business in a month's time should the FAI not be satisfied at that point remains.
Should 32-year-old Moore, with fellow midfielder Jim Crawford - who turned down the manager's post himself before Christmas - touted as his likely assistant, be installed as the club's new boss he faces a race against time to cobble together a team for Shelbourne's opening First Division game against Kildare County at Tolka Park on March 9th. The transfer deadline is next Wednesday after which only out of contract players can be signed.
Cork City, meanwhile, revealed a major new sponsorship deal with local brewer Beamish and Crawford whose name will be used on the front of the club's shirts next season.
Beamish replace Nissan as City's main sponsors while local media outlets, The Echo newspaper and Red FM, will also back the club financially over the next three years. In total the deal is reported to be worth just short of €500,000 over the next three seasons with the Beamish putting up around €300.000 of that.
"We're delighted that they're coming on board," said City chairman Brian Lennox at yesterday's announcement, "and we look forward to making them proud sponsors in 2007, both at home and abroad."
Limerick 37 play their first game tonight when they host Bray Wanderers in a friendly at Jackman Park. Three of last season's top defenders, Pat Purcell, Paul Finucane and Brian Buckley are expected to start in manager Paul McGee's first team sheet.
John Healy could start in goal and McGee is also likely to have a look at his new goalkeeper signing, Davy Ryan who was with Galway United for the past two seasons. Other newcomers to Limerick are expected to be striker Davy Wall and Peter McCarthy.
