I am no fan of Delaney but there is nothing to suggest he wanted Venables.

i think Trappatoni and Brady is as good a managerial partnership as we could have got. Fingers crossed theyre going to be announced.
I am still concerned about his age
It looks like the boy has cried wolf one too many time for the disbelieving punters.
Brady has a steady secure job with Arsenal so it would suit him if he can hold onto that if he is to be a part of Trapattoni's team.
Or Steve McClaren when he had an even more demanding job as manager of Middlesbrough whilst also England's assistant.
From the Malone article in the IT
'Only in the past few days, however, has his (Trapattoni) interest in taking over the Irish team been confirmed to the FAI, with John Delaney apparently having been made aware of it earlier this week. The three members of the recruitment panel may have heard about it even more recently than that and it is believed that they will only get to interview him today.'
Sorta suggesting that Delaney made contact first with Trapattoni and then set it up with the interview panel.
I think Brady instigated this. In my view he probably acted as a go between Delaney and Trappatoni.
Don't really care who did what with whom. as long as Trap is announced as new manager tomorrow I'll be exstatic
But Trapattoni has revealed he has never been in talks with anyone regarding the Irish job, and he was not impressed upon hearing the news.
“I admire the imagination of certain people,” Trapattoni told APA news agency
“Two weeks ago, I was being linked with Africa, last week it was England and now we are talking about Ireland. I’m curious to see where I will be next week.”
It now seems unlikely that Trap will replace former Ireland boss Steve Staunton, who was axed after failing to secure a spot at Euro 2008.
Trapattoni is still one of Italy’s most successful coaches at club level, having made his name at Juventus after winning several major honours with the Bianconeri. He also won the Scudetto with Inter in 1989 as well as winning the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.
However, he has never proved himself on the international stage. He left the Azzurri in 2004 after failing miserably at the European Championships in Portugal.
Could be a curve ball leaked by the FAI to distract everyone from Filipe Scolari being landed on a private jet at RAF Aldergrove and being driven in the back of a transit van to Dublin.
Well it's not like we're asking him to play in a support striker role aged 71. Unlike Robson, he hasn't already have health problems (afaik) and so there's no reason to think he couldn't handle the role. Obviously you're going to have his staff (Brady?) in charge of the bulk of training (as the younger Quieroz does for the Ferguson at Man Utd). Even if we get one campaign out of him, he could steady the ship which we desperately need, and who knows if the partnership is a success perhaps Brady could be then take over and keep the continuity? Any reservations over this seem appointment would be very harsh.
I think that 'Len' would be a good appointment, has all the experienced needed to fill in this job and he has much success although with the bigger teams, but he still guided them towards victory.
please let it be so. He is a pensioner but by God we'll tighten up at the back and defend set pieces.
A bit of reverse psychology here: Given how this story has clearly built momentum and given (a) how well it'd be received if true and (b) how much of a let down it'd be of TV got the job and consequently how much derision would be pointed the FAI's way, I suspect that if Trap isn't the man they'd have nipped it in the bud through media sources already today. Instead by calling the meeting they're fuelling this specualtion, setting themselves up to look great if true but disastrous if not.
It sure looks like Delaney made the first official contact unilaterally, probably with Brady involved, by sounding out Trapattoni perhaps.
Yeah good point Stuttgart. I would be very suprised if this was not true
Does no one wants to credit Delaney with being able to instigate something positive on his own initiative? :D
The betting money is starting to flow on Trapattoni (now at 4/6) but not yet with a sense of purpose that it's a sure thing.
just watched that youtube footage of him. John O'Shea is going to **** his pants :) and I cannot wait to see his reaction if Stephen Ireland comes out with another whopper about grannies.
Chatsoccer keep repeating Trapattoni's St Patricks Day birthday as if it's some kind of omen.
Then I'll vote to change the name of the national day to St Trapattoni's Day
this could happen. only a few more hours and we'll all know. Think aboutt it hallf time at the ierland brazil game it will all be revealed!!
I know Im out on a limb here with only hours to go beore the "big announcement" but to be honest, I dont know if it's going to be anything amazing.
Many folk are seeing 'signs', and crediting the FAI with stealth media manipulation.
Me? I dont think the morons could manage to break their own faces with a page of typed instructions and a hammer.
I hope Im wrong, and that we all have reason to be happy tomorrow evening, but I sincerely doubt it.
Dion is really crying for his Venables, sure even the players want him, ahhhh poor old Dion
....things are more advanced than Dion suggests?.....its gonna be a long day
Awww didums, Dion still wants Venables
Im sorry but does Fanning pull quotes like this out of his arse?Quote:
FAI sources were meanwhile playing down the significance of Given's remarks yesterday when he criticised the delay in naming a manager and called for the appointment of Terry Venables.
Trap's future press conference. Sounds similiar to someone before him. :)
"I'ma da bossa. I'ma da gaffa. Whata I saya gosa, da bucka stopsa witha mea."
Probably. :D
Its going to be a pretty short meeting if its scheduled at 6.30 as everybody has to be in the tv studio by 7.30, which perhaps suggests that everything has been pre arranged and this is a rubber stamp exercise.?
