Players don't get away with a lack of fitness at the level Reid is playing under 7 or 8 different managers.

Reid looks over-weight but obviously his fitness levels are where they need to be, this is a dead horse topic.
There is a difference I think Reid should be in the squad but if Trap has seen him at first hand and has an idea of how he wants the game to be played well then I can understand why he is not there. He also may not be there reasons due to off the field activity. If I was the manager I would have Reid in the squad, but then again I would have taken McGeady off the other night at half time so wtf do I know.
Yes, tardelli too according to the question I asked him on Saturday.
Mcgeady also was actually on the ball quite a lot and doing good things apart from the final ball. So taking him off wouldn't have helped his confidence. Trap got that one spot on, as was showed. And thats why trap got to where he did as a manager, where others would have gotten rid of mcgeady or taken him off such as previous managers, trap held firm. When you see things like that you realise that he is the right man for the job.
maybe Trap thinks McGeady can play Andy Reid's role (the one he described in early press conferences) away while playing Hunt out wide.
If Andy Reid was ever going to be used then it would have been at home against the weakest team in the group.
I think Trap might will send a message to Stephen Ireland to come on board for the Bulgaria game, to make up our 4th different partnership at CM in 5 games.
Is Dossena first choice? Did he play against Brazil?
No he only came on as sub. He started their last 3 qualifiers though. I presume Grosso is their first choice left back cos he is quality, must have been injured for those qualifiers or something. If it is Grosso it's a tricky one. Playing McGeady on the right might keep him too occupied to venture forward all that much, as he does to great effect. Having said that would McGeady be strong enough in a tracking back sense to keep him quite.
Yeah the Czech and Milan Defender Jankulovski destroyed Mc Geady in Prague.
From BBC's website:
1541: "You know that Andrea Dossena is Italy's number one left-back, don't you? You do know that?"
BBC Radio 5 Live's Mark Lawrenson
"I'd have thought Fabio Grosso would have to be in a wheelchair for Dossena to be first-choice."
Alan Green's response
Watched the first half against Arsenal and other than a mis-hit pass early in the game he played well. I'd definitely swap Richardson and Reid around though as it can be very restrictive for Reid playing on the left.
That would make more sense alright. Richardson has nothing near Reids vision. He cost Sunderland a great chance of scoring as well when he took on the extra player instead of just passing it straight away, giving the Arsenal players that extra couple of seconds to get back. Self indulgent *******.
Sbragia gives the players freedom to play proper football, and that's why he likes Reid in the side; however, he seems pragmatic in that he insists on athletic players in the middle.
Considering the type of players who generally play in the centre in the Premiership, I don't blame him.
I'm just glad Reid is involved, even if it is out wide.
If there was a Sunderland player within 5 yards of it I'd have called it sloppy but there's no way he meant to hit it anywhere near the area he did. He mis hit it.
Played the whole 90 last night but like the rest of the Sunderland team, faded in the 2nd half. Doesn't seem to be any problem with his fitness level. Made one great run off the ball late in the second half in on goal but was ignored by the Sunderland player on the ball.
What a crock of sh!te Keane talks re. Andy Reid.
He seems to hold grudges for everyone he either played with, played for or managed!!! It's blatantly obvious and pathetic and the media are morons for latching on. I doubt this psychotic could even name the players selected by Trapatonni.
So Trapatonni "picks players who are playing week in week out for 90 minutes and not just once every four weeks" Let's see..................Darron Gibson, Paul McShane, Noel Hunt, Shane Long, Whelan........... !!!
Why do interviewers allow him to spout such nonsense unchallenged? Are they just so thrilled to get an interview with the football God!
So there are 2 people in the World who agree that Andy should not be in the squad, Trapatonni and Keane, everyone else is wrong. How long did Keane last as a Premiership Manager again???
THe more and more I see of this the more I think that Trap felt that Andy Reid could not handle just being a squad member and as a result he dropped him from the squad. Maybe Keane has seen this side of Reid and sees where Trap is coming from. I would have Reid in the squad. No doubt about it. However if Trap feels he has a bad effect on the squad with his attitude well then maybe he is right not to pick him in the squad
Agree entirely.
I think I posted before that I was at a talk given by Clive Woodward after the 2003 WC win. He said he picked his final squad based on character & personality as much as ability. In particular he wanted only positive people traveling, saying that even only one moaner would take the whole structure down like a termite.
Maybe Trap has observed Reid in the squad a few times and determined he is such a termite.
Geysir pointed out that something must have happened since Georgia, as Reid was all set to come on in Montenegro and then was left out altogether for a subsequent game. I suspect Neil's explanation is on-the-money.
I suppose that buries the last shed of cred to any conspiracy theory.
From today's Irish Times: http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/...250905505.html
Good news about losing the weight, lets see what Bruce can make of him. What playmakers has he had in his teams before?Quote:
IN the wake of an energetic 45-minute performance from Andy Reid in Sunderland’s first game of their first pre-season under new manager Steve Bruce, the 26-year-old Dubliner received praise from Bruce for his new slimmer physique, writes Michael Walker.
With Reid’s first-team place not assured, the Irishman has obviously shed weight and Bruce said: “Andy Reid has lost eight kilos and worked extremely hard and that can only be fair play to him.
“Nobody on our side has done that for him, he’s done it himself. If he can continue like that he’ll do well. He looked far, far better for that, I think you’ll agree.”
Reid is visibly slimmer than last season and with Bruce determined at Sunderland to replicate the stamina and energy levels for which Wigan became known, Reid’s application will help him secure a place in a large squad. He played on the left and scored a deflected goal and is part of the squad that travels to Portugal today.
Paul McShane has withdrawn from it and Sunderland were awaiting news of the scan on McShane’s injured knee on Thursday.
Excellent news, shows he's serious about trying to fight his way back to the Ireland squad with the world cup in mind
I hope Bruce doesn't plan on using him on the left for the season as that is his worst position out of all the different midfield positions.
Good news, 8 kilos is a fair bit, 1.25 stone that's a lot of excess weight to be lugging about.
That's a lot of weight to lose over a summer. Let's hope Bruce plays him centrally now. He's much more suited to that position than Richardson. It's not for lack of ability that he wasn't playing every week.
Remains to be seen if he gets picked though.
Anyway from this match report he may have a few more pounds to shed.

"The *rotund* Republic of Ireland international drove forward before seeing his effort inadvertently diverted into the Darlington net by Matty Plumer."
From elsewhere:-
"...with Bruce determined at Sunderland to replicate the stamina and energy levels for which Wigan became known" so I guess Reid realises that if he does
not slim down he won't be seeeing much first team football unnder Bruce.
Still do not understand what took him so long to get in better shape....
Don't think he has a weight issue at all, tbh.
Its just an easy opportunity to have a go at the lad. He is def our most creative player. Hope he gets an opportunity to play in the centre.
Reid would want to have terrible genes if he was apparently 'super fit' but still a fat dumpling.
Is there a pic of him? I've heard he lost weight before and he still looked big. He's really top heavy.
