I was out shopping tonight, and found this - Patagonia Pale Ale, a Chilean beer. In order to add an extra post to this thread, I bought it.
Given that the label was in English, I wondered if this was just some crap produced for the foreign market that Chileans wouldn't touch, or if it would be a nice, unexpected find.
Actually not bad, but a strange combination of light and malty.

Just back from Sardinia there last week, had the nastro azzuro mentioned here a few times, nice beer alright. Also the most popular beer there is called ichnusa, brewed on the island although the brewery is owned by heineken now i think. its lovely stuff. Had a few birra rossa's there too, look a bit like smithwicks but far nicer!
Ashati - Japanese beer, very tasty
I haven't tried that one myself, but there are a lot of red beers out there that look a bit like smithwicks but have a much nicer taste. Heck three Irish micro Reds (Porterhouse, O'Hara's and Franciscan Well) produce a nicer red than Smithwicks.Quote:

Stann, what was the name of the Italian beer we hammered into us the night we were in Dublin? It was lush. Drank too much of it so cant remember what it was called although I do think it was the Morgans that provoked the amnesia!
It was probably Nastro Azzurro from Peroni, as that is the most popular Italian beer available in Ireland.

EDIT: I should add that there is a Septemberfest in Farmleigh house in Phoenix Park a fortnight from Saturday. There should be plenty of Irish microbreweries represented, along with other craft drink producers. And it's free.

Budvar (think its full name is budjeovidski or something) beautiful on tap!
Super Bock - lived on it when in Porto last summer.
Dreher - lived on it in Budapest this summer.
"Super Bock, Super Star, Get's you more p*ssed than Stella Artois" as the United song went after Porto what must've been years ago. Was available in Oddbins by the crate if you wish to relive the experience, well was until very recently (will check at lunch)...Quote:

I've seen that Birra Moretti stuff in an off licence here in Ranelagh. The name of the offy escapes my mind but it's quite good for finding obscure beers.
Would love to get my paws on Paulaner Hefe-DunkelWeiss, had it when I was in Berlin earlier this summer. It's a lovely beer, hard to describe the flavour but it's better than regular Paulaner.
Also one that's not so much obscure as it is ignored by a lot of beer drinkers. Erdinger Dunkel, you'll find it next to all the regular Erdinger Weissbier bottles in most offys, is quite a nice beer.
Another vote for Estralla Damm. Last time I was in Barcelona, a trip to the pub coincided with happy hour and bottles of beer for a euro. They were in aluminium type "bottles" and ice, ice cold. Superb stuff
Anyone know where I can get this in Dublin (or surrounds)? I'd even considering travelling to get it...

Got it in the offy at Rafters (anyone from Derry will know it).
I'm not back up in Derry before our Setanta game in Richer, otherwise I'd bring some down.

Just thought I would start a thread to appreciated beer and to recommend any good beers that you may have tasted on your travels to either your local off licence or further afield. Favourites of mine are Maisel Weisse from the wheat beer variety.
Am not much of an oddball beer type but I did get a couple of absolute belters in for Christmas, normally try a couple of different ones to get something unusual in, but hit the jackpot first time with these.
Baltika 5 is a pure gorgeous malty, caramel-y lager, and Fuller's Honey Dew, a lovely golden ale with a delicious honey flavour.
(Edit to say they were both from the local off-licence which if I remember right is a Carry Out)
Also I must reiterate my support for Cisk Export from Malta, Estrella Damm from Barcelona, and both Nastro Azzuro and Birra Moretti from Italy.
Rebel Red from the Franciscan Well Brewery. Yum yum!

Aye, was done before I think... My vote still goes to Lasko (Slovenia) for Lager.
Value for Money, hard to beat anything in the Holts range in Manchester - their Bitter for me, but the Diamond lager is good too.
Had the pleasure to stay in this place a few times...all beers brewed in the town are just great.

A few good beers mentioned on here, but I've never had a nicer beer than Sierra Nevada Pale Ale - even non-beer drinkers I know have said it's brilliant
