I thought around the 2k mark meself. Cobh beat Shams tonight so we are seriously in the doo doo, we have Sligo, Bray, Derry, harps and UCD our next 5 games, need to take 12 points from that. As for Billy, he rightly complained that a Cork player kicked the ball away ater the whistle went and wasn't booked, while a United player - Glynn I tihnk - was booked for similar offence in first half. That's the problem, not only in this league but every league, a lack of consistency by the officials.
I thought its meant to be 2 kids per adult???ya right,it was NOT like that last night, dam annoying.
There is a case for Billy throwing his name into the hat as manager i think, might be too soon.No need to panic yet though.
We need to start picking up the points especially with Ramblers winning last night. The kids are irritating and I could hear them talking and being delighted about getting in for a fiver, theyre paying their way so I think we will just have to put up with them.
Time to call a spade a spade. The lads have absolutely no leadership.
In fairness to Billy, he's only 3 games in, but his display of petulance showed a leopard doesn't change his spots and we'll get no 50/50s from any referee once they read the fines / suspensions reports for the rest of the season. Billy is a GUFC legend. Nothing will change that - but we needed a leader and he provided the opposite on Friday night. Blaming the referee is a cop out IMO.
It may have been against a second string Longford team but the displays on Tuesday night would have shown that Rouse deserved a start and Alan Keane was not up to it. How he was tried at outside right and outside left is beyond me. I'm delighted for Keane that he has recovered his fitness and recovered from injury and I love to see locals do well, but Tuesday night gave an idication of what was to come on Friday.
Full credit to Billy then for making the changes he did and full credit to Molloy for making maximum use of his time on the field.
Not even 1/3 of the way through the season but we're doomed IMO. Lester throwing the ball away on our throw in because he felt none of the lads up front wanted it shows just how united this squad is.
Much has been made of how the new stand has killed the atmosphere, but I thought the home support was vocal and appreciative of anything the lads tried to put together. Obviously this was very evident when Molloy scored, but all through there was good support and the crowd responded to any obvious efforts from the lads on the pitch.
I'm off to Sligo on Saturday. Got to stick with them now. For better or worse.
Being a bit unfair on Alan, he was playing out of position. Friday showed we have nothing going forward, and without Derek and Russler, we won't create anything either. Like you I think we're doomed as well, job beginning to look less and less attractive
Doomed?. I agree it will take effort of gigantic proportions to rescue the season but I refuse to hang the head just yet. I haven't heard the slightly overweight lady singing yet. We have had a pathetic start and while we must take one game at a time the next 5 games will define our season. I may be a fool but i remain optimistic. C'mon UNITED
talk of being doomed is far too premature imho. A sequence of 2 or 3 back to back wins (unlikely as it looks right now) will always put a far brighter reflection on everything. we just need a new manager in before the mole hill turns into a mountain. no disrespect to billy but he is not ready for it just now.
the new manager has to be in place before saturdays game .Im usually the most optimistic supporter but somehow i cant see us acting quickly enough to stop the rot.
you cant give up that easy, Its still early days, and anything is possible. we do need prompt action on a manager though rapid
Too early to give up. Weve played all top teams so far bar Cobh. We just need to finish top of the mini League (Bray UCD Fharps Cramblers Shligo Utd)
They cant hang around waiting for ever. They should have went for Rico straight away and agreed terms with him the day after they shafted Tony.

:confused::confused: If they had would you not have had a totally different argument that it was planned, should have acted sooner, etc etc. He is gone. Live with it.
Ah Jasus lads!! There’s still 81pts to play for.
2006: after 6 games -2pts - Goals for 3/against 8
Sligo / Drogs / Pats / Longford - All home. Cork / Rovers - Away.
2007: after 6 games -1pts - Goals for 2/against 9
Bohs / Rovers / Cork - Home. Cobh / Pats / Drogheda – Away
Much tougher start to this season.
The team needs support now more than ever. In the old stand Friday night & the abuse been thrown at a couple of our own players was completely OTT.
Not this 'shafted Tony' crap again. C'mon GUFCT, if we're giong to live like this, why not still complain about how Tommy Callaghan was shafted back in the 70s. Move on.
As for the rest of the posters, lads and lasses, ye have restored the flagging optimism that I was feeling when typing my last post. Sligo, Bray, UCD and Harps are 4 of our next 5 games, win them and we are mid table. C'mon United
Welcome back to the believers fold Woodquay Boy.....thought we'd lost you for a minute:D
wasnt complaining but there should have been a plan b ready when he was sacked.
article in the monday advertiser today is refreshing. Thank god someone believes
there is some local talent available, not enough i dont believe it ever will be but at least some.
Im not panicked at all yet,we WILL finished higher then Bray,Cobh and Harps maybe even U.C.D too.
Tony left the team in an awful state though, not fit,not together, not showing leadership and not showing they want it.Whoever comes in has a big clean up job to do but we do have some good players and their quality will win us games vrs the other bottom sides.
KEEP THE FAITH.
Billy's interview was good today,no harm giving some of the young lads a chance,"if your good enough your old enough".
i think that the team if playing well are better than bray cobh harps etc.
but it will take time for the new manager to get this going - time is against us
have to pick up points asap - we need to be 4th from bottom - ahead of these other teams not just keeping pace (it would be a start!)
Any news on how many applicants there has been. First job is to sort out the defence. The amount of sloppy goals conceded this season so far and the whole of last season has been crazy. The first job for the manager is to sort out the defensive shambles we have been for the last year.
Unless we do that we are going down and going down as the bottom team. You cannot continue to concede those type of goals and it is not acceptable for professional players to continually do so. If any of the rest of us were as sloppy in our day to day job we would be fired.
I think when everyone is fit that we have some decent midfielders and have the ability to nick a few goals. Unfortunately we are always facing an uphill battle due to the incompetencies at the back.
Unfortunately teams aren't having to do much to beat us these days. We are usually just presenting them with gift wrapped goals. Case in point the last day. Cork didn't look all that great to be honest and yet went in at HT 2-0 up thanks to clangers from Rodgers. First game of the season vs Bohs and it was Reggie getting caught the wrong side of Fenn like an amateur. Fitzgerald messed up in another game.
It wouldn't be half as frustrating if we were just getting played off the pitch by teams and getting hammered but we're not. It's our own stupidity at the back handing the advantage to opponents and the confidence levels are so low now that when we concede a silly goal the heads drop a bit.
We are not gone yet, but it is going to take a mighty effort. Having seen Harps a few times, and Cobh once this year I think both are as good if not better than Utd on player ability. But with some spirit and organisation (cut out the blunders) it is possible starting with a draw on Saturday.
