To be fair to Brooks Mileson, he is battling serious illness at the moment, which necessitated his pullout from that small club in Scotland.
It's probably unfair to comment as none of us knows what the financial situation for Longford and their investors are. My gut feeling is that Roddy's side leaking it won't help the negotiations. The same thing happened with the City bid. And in fairness to JR, the FAI "guaranteed preservation of Buckley Park for football" option versus the Roddy "pie in the sky-white elephant-I'm going to manage Celtic someday" option was a no brainer.
I don't see how even if they took over that they could build the club up to a situation where they could sustain that kind of expenditure without their investors. The club had plans for development with pitches, bar/restaurant etc before they came along but they weren't going to try and run before they could walk
I also did some research, it seems his story checks out.
EDIT: Actually - forget that - the real results of an actual google search are much, much funnier :D

I feel physically sick.
the shark has been circling for a few months looking to find some weaker member of the pack and now he pounces the B*ll*x .. if you get talking to him watch his lips ,every time they move he,s telling porkies
Collins was sniffing around a few IL clubs last season looking to "get involved" with one of them. I think he was a bit surprised at the number of members clubs in the North and therefore takeovers were not so easy.
He doesn't seem to care that nobody can stand him.
Oops, now I remember where it is! I agree 100% that member run clubs are the best option, oligarchies are unsustainable.I would hope that the "loans" at Drogs and Pats (not a dig!, just as eg) will be strictly short term, and that the fans will claim a stake in years to come. My point was that Mileson dragged that club from obscurity to the big time. Now that they are there there is a much bigger possibility that the populace will back them than if they were in the Highland League! He is not some dodgy type.
I just want to row back a bit from my earlier comments! Heard on the sports news that Gretna are seriously ******. They need 30k in 24 hours. Lesson for Longford I suppose. Get the fans out GAA style and put a stop to non local ownership!
My favorite bits

A strong, if unspectacular, centre forward, Roddy went on to forge a career with various League of Ireland and lower league English outfits, acquiring more clubs than Tiger Woods along the way.
ah yes the five year planQuote:
It was around this time that he first began to talk of his plans to manage Celtic and, later, Ireland. It was all part of Roddy's famous "five year plan".
Quote:
However, events took a downturn. The Bohemians board of directors surprisingly reacted by sacking their manager.
The decision stunned Bohs fans, many of whom to this day practically carry photos of him in their wallets.
Maybe because you a f**king eejit:rolleyes:Quote:
They showed all the funny bits, but they didn't show my coaching abilities and my managerial abilities. From a football perspective, I regret The Rod Squad. It made me look like a f**king eejit."
:mad:Quote:
Roddy returned to Ireland, this time joining Dublin City. Despite claiming a friendship with City owner Ronan Seery, Roddy was only too happy to jump ship when a better offer came along in the form of relegation rivals Shamrock Rovers.
No doubt, another 5 year planQuote:
And so, where did it all go wrong for Roddy? Late last year, around the time he had intended on being the boss of Celtic, he was managing St Joseph's Fairview GAA side in Division 7 of the football league. Taking the job, Roddy declared his ambition to win the Leinster club title, saying that, ultimately, he wanted to manage Dublin. His experimentation with GAA was to be shortlived, however, and he resigned after a few weeks
Don't do it LongfordQuote:
Banished from the football world, it seems that the pansy is finally returning to the family sporting fold.

Key Point for me:
You have to ask- if they're not in it for the land, what's in this for the investors?Quote:
A working proposal which would see McMullens take a 51pc majority share in the club has been devised and that is likely to put to the meeting this evening.
The remaining 49pc would remain in the name of the existing owners with the Flancare Park ground being protected to alleviate any concerns that the Dublin investors were looking at the land as a property deal.
However, to manage the club's debts and finance the further development of Longford, the McMullens group would be looking to build all-weather pitches, purchase a bar licence and look to build other potential forms of revenue on the site.
I wouldn't have thought the executive had the power without it going to a full EGM. They could only make a recommendation. The current pitch/ ground is only a relatively small part of the site.
It would have to be approved at an AGM/EGM I'd say, the club statement said it would have to be put before the executive and the members. I'd say the meeting tonight is only the executive who as Macy says will make a recommendation.
He's taking them to the Carribean for pre-season training. On newstalk now
Unbelievable. There's been no official proposal and he's not going to get in. From what I've heard it's pretty much guaranteed that the executive is going to tell them to get lost.
McMullen was on the 6.30 radio 1 sports news yesterday.I think they said he was in the Ireland u16 Euro winning squad in 98 so he is aYoung lad..."I love football and I love business and I love money more than both those things."
I know this will come as a shock to people, but the emperor has no clothes.
What? Roddy's mates aren't all they set themselves out to be? Some mistake surely?.
anyone listen to him on off the ball last night?he was chatting away about the longford job and the good reception he got down in longford the last few days, it took daniel mcdonnell to remind him that longford have only just appointed a new manager...the way collins was talking youd swear he had taken the job
New developments??

We live in hope.
Was it something we said?
McMullen on Friday Sportsnight on RTE Radio 1 now - recorded earlier in the week.
Talked Roddy up bigtime.
Yeah seemed very fond of Roddy alright. I got the impression that he thought he owned the club already, and that he wouldn't have any trouble in buying us.
Roddy announced on RTE at halftime in Dalyer that after talking to his wife and family, they decided to pull out of Longford deal because of negative reaction from fans.
They are now looking at another club.
McMullen wouldn't move without Roddy
Woohoo! So long Roddy. You were never wanted.
happy days for longford:D a sad day for getrna is the new club they are after now
ironic that he thought he could just take a club.
fair play longfordian members club, proved that saviour may not be the best thing ever but its better than having Rod.

It would've been so harsh on our new management team if they'd been shafted. They've got a real buzz going now around the place. Two good results so far and a young, enthusiastic squad. Plus as I repeat ad nauseum these McMullen guys were offering nothing.
Shoddy on Gretna, his media superstardom, and the last time he convinced someone to buy him a club:

The amount of crap that comes out of that man's mouth is incredible. They no more spent four days in talks with us. They were in Longford for one day and ended up that they "couldn't commit to anything in writing". I love the bit where he says "I was very successful at Bohemians. Then I went to Carlisle."
