ya it would be great if more poeple from different clubs got involved .

Ah, sorry lad, yes I know what you mean, there are a good few to turn up again yet, Swinford, Ballinrobe, Westport heads to throw in their piece.
It is very hard to call this one again, last year we were a big disappointment as were yourselves. BRobe were a suprise to me compared to how they were the season before.
Have ye any good signings or retirements there yet? I take it you are still in Milebush, any sign of a pitch for you down the line?
To be honest and i think i speak for a few people who have visited the website in recent weeks, i am getting bored about reading up about Castlebar, Westport, Ballyheane- Managers appointed.... speculation about players..ZZZzzzzzzzz if you ask me. Yes, i know this is a Football Forum so lets talk FOOTBALL for christ sakes!!
In regards to our own Pre-Season, Training is going well, few new faces this season which is always nice to see, have nothing to lose in the Super League so no real pressure,
My money is on Fahy and possibly Swinford or S&F being promoted this season, Fahy made a late attempt to pip us to that second position and if they can start the new season the way they ended last season, they will be hard beat. Would like to see them get their own pitch though as i am sure they would agree, the astro can be tough on the ankles, knees etc. Nothing like a good old bobble for defenders to deal with. :)
Any Fixtures out yet??

sure if nobody from any other club comes on and join's in,in the forum what can we do !!!
Fair play to JP, always a good man to get the ball rolling! As for the predictions, I think that you're right in saying we need a better start to last year. It's going to be a very tough season, with two decent teams coming down in Glenhest and Crossmolina and some stiff opposition elsewhere in the group, particularly from S+F and Westport. Castlebar are so unpredictable, they can be excellent one match and useless the next, depending on their squad. Lots of online activity from them anyway so presumably they have a good interest this year! Would like to hear from the two teams coming down into the division, have they similiar squads to last year? What about Kilmore and Urlaur? The momentum is often with teams going the right direction, as Claremorris proved a couple of years ago. Have they aspirations for the title?
As for ourselves, we have Stephen O Malley back from England but are still missing Darren and Justin Creaby as well as James Wright. And we have, at last, definite plans for a pitch. But it's still Milebush this year, and believe me, we hate it as much as ye do, grateful as we are for the opportunity to play somewhere. Come on lads, stick your necks out; top two? bottom two? promoted two (seen as how it's rarely the top two!!).
Well we have no real major signing(s), their is nothing work looking at on the Bosman list so we will make do in what we have.:L:L
Numbers have improved the last 2 weeks and we are getting some of last years players back, even a few making the leap from the GAA which is nice to see.
Our under 18's are giving the manager something to look at, so expect a young team this season apart from 1 or 2 loyal and dedicated players. We are favourite's to go straight back down but i think a few years with the current squad may see us staying up in the next few years.
When does the League Kick off??
I was reading in the Galway Advertiser last week how Mayo have some of the nicest pitches in the country which is nice to read, i would say that is due to the fact that we have a Summer League, Galway League considering changing also.
Welll you cant win anything with kids JP ;) Best of luck up there in the big bad world LOL
Alright Lads,
Definately another interesting season on the horizon. I reckon the four teams joining the prem league this year are all going to pose threats in terms of challenging for the top 3-4 places, tough away trips and in the case of C'mollina & Glenhest - experience. Kilmore & Urlar have the advantage of momentum, presumably good squad morale and not alot is known about their squads.
Westport, Castlebar & S&F are the obvious choices for the top 3 places. Fahy, should they find some form early on and some consistency, are in with a shout.
This years title and promotion spots are open to all ten teams. Consistency is key. Fittness is important as is a good start and at least 11 players every sunday!!
Its also worth noting that there is only 3 leagues in Europe worth watching.. The English Premier League.. The spanish Premier league.. and The Mayo Premier League..:ball:
Good Man Norm! Nice to have a bit of back-up! Have to disagree with you on one point though; the Spanish League is not all it's cracked up to be this year...;)
Youse look stronger this year alright. Have ye any of the gaelic lads from Kilmeena? Heard Davy Feehan has committed fully.
Stephen O Malley - Dessies brother?? He played a few years ago in the premier for ye at centre back?? What sort of shape he in now after England?
Sounds like ye're on the up... all the best
Wake up call for Fahy Saturday Evening. 2-0 defeat to Clew Bay in milebush. Alot of lads missing. We huffed and we puffed but we didn't quite blow any houses down. Still 5 weeks to go till kick off so plenty of time. Any other friendlies of note over the weekend??
Well i wouldn't exactly say they are kids now but every team has to start off somewhere:rolleyes:
We had 2 friendlies ourselves over the weekend, was a good run out for both sides, few quality additions to last years squad so with over a month to the big kick off, plenty of time to prepare as best we can i suppose.
i reckon two very good teams last year in Crossmolina and Glenhest but ive heard thtat a lot of their players are switching codes after a year of heavy defeats.
if they can retain even 70-80% of players that played super league last year, they will definitly be there or thereabouts at the end of the season
Crossmolina and Burrishoole will take them players when it matters and thats why both got relegated last year.
Im going to be bold and say that S & F will win the league and Fahy will finish second. With Westport B and Celtic B closely following. It will be tight though..first 5 games are crucial
Hopefully we will see more players from this division in the Mayo Oscar Traynor squad next year!!!
Fair play for sticking your neck out anyway Goodfootball! I'm finding it difficult to do the same though! The last time Glenhest came down from the Super League (year before last) I thought they would struggle to stay in the Premier league. They ran away with the divisional title. Without inside information on the squads available to each team it's virtually impossible to gauge their potential.
S+F came good towards the end of last year and presumably they will continue that surge this year.
For me though, Westport United are the team to beat. Having won the title last year, whilst playing the most attractive football, they have to be favourites again this term. It's a credit to the club that even at a lower level they refuse to compromise their policy of playing passing, fluid football, primarily along the floor. They have an improved underage system in place and there are plenty of decent young lads coming up through the ranks. There is an argument to say they can be put off their game by the more physical teams (reminiscent of Arsenal circa 2005-2006!), but I think the players who started last year will be well used to that by now.
Celtic B, on paper, must have a great chance too, as their youths have had a phenomenal year. How many of the under-18's will figure for their B side I wonder? With so many changes in personnel between the three teams it's not easy to assess their squad from the outside. After finishing 6th and 7th in 2006 and 2007 respectively, they will surely be looking to improve.
Fahy have been closer both years, but struggle with consistency. With a decent start to the campaign and bit of luck with a few injury-prone, first-teamers I would fancy us to go up. But just about every team would say that.
I agree, would be nice to see more players from the division in the oscar traynor set up, i think Alan McDonnell from S&F was the only player from the division in the squad this year.
Ya i think the league will between S&F and Fahy but westport will have a big say. will be a tighter league than last year. should be a good one!!!!
have to agree with you on the first point with s and f being a major contender for the title this year with hopefully ourselves up there at the end of the season.thought that s and f were probably the best team in the division when they had a full team.we played them in the early part of last season and got hammered (although we were missing a few regulars that day but still!) they play a very decent brand of football and if they can stay relatively injury free they're in with a great chance.and they did hammer westport at the latter end of last season.although as me auld team mate fahyforever has already stated we'd all think that we're in with a great shout with an injury free squad.both teams that have been relegated from the super league will also be in the mix.of the teams promoted kilmore is a very difficult place to go to for a result and urlar have an ever improving side after struggling for the last couple of years.add to the that the teams of westport b and celtic b and you've a very open league methinks.its very hard to call whos going to win (never mind about who'll be relegated!!;))let the games begin and we'll soon sort the men from the boys!:D
Any idea when we get a list of fixtures for the league? I know we have the first 5 rounds starting 30th of March but its the whose playing who that I would like to know.
Its getting very exciting now...
They usually come out around this time, exciting times indeed. Not sure if i am in favor of the new Promotion/Relegation idea but sure it will put more pressure on Super League(only a number) of clubs to really fight for points to avoid being in that position. Not good for us one would think, :)
It's the first I heard of that plan JP, but my first impression is that it that it's a bit of a "Game 39" plan; an unnecessary tweaking of a current system that works well enough already. The appeal to Premier League teams is obvious, but seen as how the two B teams can't go up, I think there is ample opportunity for teams in that division to get promoted as it stands. Perhaps if if it was rendered null and void if Westport or Castlebar were in the top three it might me more feasible, but if a team comes fifth in the Premier league (out of ten!), as you mentioned, they hardly deserve a shot at promotion. I know it could easily affect us positively but it would be a dubious glory to go up in that fashion.
It may have a more positive effect on the Super League, encouraging teams to work harder to avoid those bottom three places, but I think it's more likely to irk clubs who have worked hard to stay out of the bottom three, only to find themselves involved in a one-off match which could relegate them.
I think your own team Ballinrobe, for example, would be disgusted to perform well enough in your first year stay up, only to have to play a fifth-placed Fahy, (for example!) to guarantee survival. I can't see how that would benefit any club, or the Mayo League in general.
Can anyone confirm this change of system, or is it just being considered? What are other people's opinions on the subject?
Its an absoloute joke, Mayo League must really have lost the plot how can you reward teams who come 5th in Premer League with Celtic,Wport,Manulla all have b teams with a play-off against a team who have battled immediate relagation all season, but yet still find themselves landed out in milbush in a game which could put them in a place where they have avoided all season its scandlous and i seriously think this new rule/ or fairltale should be reviewed, obviously they have not thought this through, whatever they think they are going to achieve by this new intervention is definately not shared with majority especially clubs like ballinrobe and bangor who have just got promoted and now find a harder job to wait in the league ( thats not to say they will do well other teams are at risk too) but surely it takes the gloss off playing for the first time in the Super League for the newly promoted.....
If Westport B, Celtic B & Manulla B finish 1st, 2nd & 3rd, we are looking at a situation where 4th, 5th & possibly 6th will get promoted to the super league. In effect, it is now possible to finish two places above relegation to the 1st division and still get promoted to the super league!
I have to agree, this rule change seems to be for the sake of it more then enything else. I don't see much benefit for any club that cannot finish in the top 3/4 of the Premier league at the very least, getting promoted to the super league. What needs to be remembered is that 2 if not 3 of the B teams in the P.L will more then likely finish in the top half of the table, with a realistic chance of 2 B teams in the top 3.
All I've heard on this ruling is what I have read here, I think the M.L need to discuss this a little more before implementation.:ball:
This new change is being implemented and I have to agree its not a good idea. Could you imagine if Erris Utd B and Ballina B get promoted from the 1st Division this year which is very possible then next season a team could finish 8th in the Premier division and then have a play-off where they could be promoted to the Premier Division. Something needs to be done with the issue of B teams as this season we have more second and third teams entering the League.
Where have the messages disappeared from yesterday? Is anyone else having trouble logging onto this page? More often than not I have to enter my password and name about ten times before I get in. Yesterday Cloggs, R. Rover, Norm and myself had posts which are now deleted apparently. 13th man? Some sort of bias against Fahy? ;)
I meant 12th not 13th!
Tell me this 12th man; if posts are insulting or bad-mannered, what's the point of putting them into a different folder ('Rubbish it's called, in case anyone wants to see) where it can be viewed by all and sundry anyway??? It was a bit of fun between 4 team mates. If you want rubbish, take a look at the last three weeks of the Mayo League page; personal attacks, bitching and similar nonsense.
Alot of teams in the super league who cant mount a challenge on the title anyway.
One of Ballina, Erris, Westport or Celtic will win the league!
The rest will scrimp to stay up, same every year!!
New rule could be a good thing, and I am happy about it!!
Have to agree with FahyForever on this one 12th man.
I'm new to this site and so far have found it well laid out, well run and highly informative. I assumed, presumably in error, that having a little harmless fun along with engaging in some serious football discussions was accepted behaviour.
I don't want to get dragged into a pointless argument regarding what posts are acceptable or not acceptable.
You don't seem to share my confidence in other bloggers, I assume everyone is able to read a thread, decide its not relevent, and move on.
Of the posts you deleted yesterday, one of them was mine, it was a joke from one mate to another. Anybody who read it would be able to see that it was not a personal attack, but more a dig that would be laughed about over a pint.
Can you please clarify as to why these posts were removed so as to avoid further confusion in the future?:ball:
Two of the posts on the thread (by r.rover)were originally deleted by me for being infraction worthy, the owner of the site (Dahamsta)then removed them and along with a couple of other posts and put them in the bin so I suggest you either PM him (Dahamsta) directly or post in the support forum if you have issue with it.
Any fixtures out yet lads? or when should we expect them??
anyone have any idea of how soon you need to notify the league of an upcoming stag/wedding within the club so as to get a game postponed or brought forward?
