From the sublime to the ridiculous.
Let's replace professional competence albeit quite dull, with unprofessional shiny superficiality.
This might yield results in the short term but is an utterly retrograde step which says more about the chairman than it does about anything else.
This says that I have no clue how to run this thing but so long as I buy myself 3 months of nobody giving out to me all will be well.
I am no fan of Allardyce - I hated Bolton - but he is as well away from this bunch of jokers
:D Keegan makes an immediate impact as he signs Shaun Wright Phillips

Hasn't even attended a football game since he was sacked by City so he says. Sentiment doesn't win you games. There's nought as queer as Toon folk but I expect Shearer to be his No. 2.
How ironic that "the Messiah's" first game ends in a 0-0 at home to Bolton :D
Nice to see Duff features heavily in his plans though:

He hasn't lost his sense of humour though. When he heard that his first target, Woodgate, had decided to sign for Spurs, he said. "They are in Europe this year. I can't offer that unless we get on a ferry". :D
Dennis Wise linked with the number 2 position heavily this morning.
He's not all that imo.
Leeds form has collapsed since Poyet left.
So, 2 games in, in the Messiah's reign and no goals scored yet.
I can't believe Wise is being considered for a top position at Newcastle.
I'm equally bewildered that they'd just hand out a job, any job he wants, to Shearer just because he was a good player there.
Even more so considering how much of a baffoon he makes of himself on MOTD. When analysing Yakubu a few weeks back all he could muster was,
"He's a goalscorer, who eh, eh... will em... get you goals". Muppet of the highest order.
Also wasn't him who said at half time of England vs Croatia that the only difference between the sides was passion (or something like that)?
keegan is claiming that the appointment has bothing to do with him and that the press need to ask the owner about the structure of the club as wise was Ashleys appointment...Director Of Football........Newcastle is a circus at the moment
Keegan himself would not be drawn on the subject of Wise at a Newcastle media briefing on Monday.
"Obviously, there are going to be some moves at this club, but I think the chairman (Chris Mort) has really got to come out and say what that's all about later this week."
I don't think all Leeds fans will be crying in to their Yorkshire puddings exactly.
I hope John Sheridan gets the Leeds gig.
Wise will now be paid £1.5m a year........crazy world.
3 Games, no goals, 1 point.
Admittedly 2 of those games were away to the Gooners but hardly the stuff of saviours
Well done Ashley, you visionary, Wise and Keegan - the dream team - Champions League beckons
sack him!!!!!!!!!
is it true they are bringing in all five footers to make the players feel big

Keegan is after Thierry Henry now.
"It would be nice to break a world record. Why rule it out."
What a comment about paying a world record fee for a player whose best days are undoubtedly behind him

I'd say the "euphoria" has well and truly died now. There's an old saying "managers should never go back" and it is true. It has seldom worked.
In what way?
===========================
"I would like to fetch Thierry Henry back to England," Keegan said. "He's the best player I've seen in the Premiership. When you're pitch-side, what I've seen him do to good players has been incredible.
"Sometimes you can take advantage of a situation and get what I call lucky."
Newcastle broke the world transfer record in 1996 under Keegan when Alan Shearer joined from Blackburn for £15 million and is refusing to rule out another ground-breaking deal under the auspices of the club's billionaire owner Mike Ashley.
"I'd like to do what we did last time and surprise people," Keegan added. "It would be nice to break a world record. Why rule it out. I'd like to bring players here that amaze people and we stop just talking about being a big club - but, with our actions, we show that we are.

Actually this Sky Sports quote of Kevin Keegan hoping (against hope) to lure Thierry Henry to St. James’s Park has been pulled out of context. The Newcastle United manager did indeed say this during a two-hour programme on Radio Newcastle:
I would like to fetch Thierry Henry back to England. He’s the best player I’ve seen in the Premiership When you’re pitch-side, what I’ve seen him do to good players has been incredible. Sometimes you can take advantage of a situation and get what I call lucky.
Actually the question was something like this: if you were in a fantasy world and could have any one player you fancied, who would it be?
Keegan now says United might get relegated:

That's a great morale booster for all at St. James' Park
Apart from the fact that there doesn't seem to be financial suicide at Newcastle (apart from buying a few turkeys), this is the closest comparison I've seen to how Leeds went from Champions League semi-final to playing the likes of Bournmouth. It has something to do with basic 'rot' in the club and players who couldn't be ar*sed to try and fix it.
Like at Leeds, I bet there are many players at the club who believe that, if Newcastle get relegated, their agent will get them a cushy deal elsewhere. Trust me, it's not nice when it happens
Sorry but to compare Newcastle to Leeds just cant be done. Leeds good players were all shipped off to try rid the club of death. Newcastle have enough players to be mid table if they put the right man in place to help the players do that. Selling a international center half and not replacing him in what you might call a suicide attempt when you have a back four like newcastles. The only rot at Newcastle is a clueless manager and unbelievably naive fans...
Do you honestly think professional footballers think like that?. I would think that most of them being the good pros they are would take pride in their profession.... At the end of the day having having relagation on your CV cant be good.
Shanman, 5 years ago, I would have posted the same reply as you. Do I think top flight pros care about the club they play for? In a word, no! They care about money first and, when that is secure, they think about personal glory in the form of medals, champions league etc. and not a care in the world where they get it. They even abandon playing for their country by 30 years of age!
Anelka, Kewell, Alan Smith, Ashley Cole, Sol Campbell, Rio Ferdinand, Wes Brown (hah!) the list goes on. What managers do they get it from? Redknapp, Graham, O'Leary, Erickson etc.
Sorry for the wake up call but gone are the days of the 1 club player and what it might bring him and the managers like Shankly.
Greed is not only good but it is the only game in town
By and large I agree with you. Players are like ordinary workers employed by a company. They like to see the company do well because it means more money for them and they'll do their best. If it starts to slide, they won't work extra hard to stop the rot but will look for a job elsewhere. I don't believe in any of this badge kissing stuff some of them do. Obviously, like in every walk of life, there are exceptions (e/g/ see Keane's reaction when Spurs won the Carling Cup) and players like to win things but most wouldn't be that bothered with whom they win them.
Fortune, fame and trophies in that order. Same for most people really.
None of us should deploy such hubris as to say "I told you so...." but.......
keegan is gone.

Ashley is a grade A plonker though. He sits with the fans, slams down pints in an effort to be one of the 'Toon Army', pretends to be one of them....
What an idiot.
Keegan was doing a good job there. They had four points from three games: Two were away to Man U and Arsenal, not a bad start to the season. Also, just look at the run they went on towards the end of the season to lift them up the table.
I wouldn't be surprised if the "Director of Football" is appointed manager now.
I feel a bit sorry for King Kev, i reckon he was conned into taking that position.
I mean having to work with D Wise must have been a kick in the balls
