Monday evening is probably best. Definitely won't be Sunday as that's a GAA day all Summer long. Leaving it until later in the week would be too long after the games.
Great news. Hopefully it won't be a Thursday - that's Oriel night. :)
Hoped Setanta would get it, as they are by far the best broadcasters around for our games. RTE will show a live game and highlights once a week and not market it, whereas it would be shown numerous times and marketed well by Setanta, especially during the summer with no other football leagues on. :(
No EPL/other football in summer for them, perfect time to concentrate on the LOI.Quote:

I know that there are a lot of FAI haters on here but they must be given credit on this. I reckon they put a good deal of pressure on RTÉ for this as I'm unsure if it's in RTÉ's benefit, at least not in the short term. Something along the lines of blocking the coverage of home internationals with an Eircom League package must have been decided on. So congratulations for the FAI on this one.
I thought I heard the Highlights package was to be between 7 - 9 - probably Network 2.
I shouldn't be too surprised at some of the negative reaction here, but I say fair play to Delaney, fair play to RTE.
Delaney pointed out, as he often does, that soccer is the biggest participation sport in the country & now it's great that the national broadcaster is promoting the national league.
I hope it goes well for all concerned.
And as for all the begrudery..........well Happy Christmas.
Oh yeah, definitely credit where its due. Like most people, I could never understand why the FAI never used its massive bargaining chip - the senior internationals which everyone is falling over themselves to show - to force broadcasters to promote the league. Glad to see that they've finally realised the league is something they should be trying to promote.
Remains to be seen how these plans would be affected by a breakaway league.
could you imagine jamie redknapp commentating on teh LOI :D
id say sunday is the best bet until the EPL finnishes as setanta now have monday night football, and when the EPL finnishes move it into monday,
good work to the FAI, good deal, and were in just in time:D
This is crucial. Most EL Fans would watch a game when not attending there own.Quote:
With a game a week they should really try and play the televised game when other teams are not playing, its fairly all over the place at the moment.
great news for loi, lets hope they put a lot of marketing and effort into it
ah jebus me old mate - purely minerals this lunchtime as I was out with the MD (after handing in my resignation this morning) - so had to be on best behaviour. :D
Real fun starts at 5pm when I get out of here - two functions to go to tonight - both with free bar.
I'm genuinely pleased about the extra lot of games promised and the highlights as I'll be abroad for the foreseeable future
7.40: Build up (consisting of the theme music, who's playing, who's in studio, and the team sheets).Quote:

Could this mean the return of the Jim (I'd rather cover rugby) Sherwin and Ryle Nugent tag team?
The highlights programme is great news, as Dodge says RTE do a good job on football when they bother showing it so we shouldn't have any more people standing up and blocking the camera when a goal goes in. Hopefully it'll be at a decent time, Sunday or Monday evening would be best. There's no point in having it any later in the week.
Just start with Shels and it'll fit in nicely. ;)
I could see this on Monday night as RTE don't have much on RTE 2 then. Sunday evening may also be an option but might mean surrounded by GAA.
Thats it exactly, its not like the league is going to be all bad for them. In fact it could turn out to be the best thing they ever did. Going back 10-15 years i'd agree the league was a bit of a basket case but its a different story now.
RTE are NOT doing us a favour here, promoting is something which is completely in their remit. That is essentially what they are there for and allowed operate the way they do.
Its only great news because we haven't had it before.
I'll give you any odds they get in some bit of stuff to co-present alongside Daragh Maloney or similar generic, inoffensive non-entity.
I'd like to see Paul Osam involved in some capacity. He comes across well and makes a lot of valid points even in comparison to some of the muppets on Sky or MOTD.
The biggest (in every sense) problem with eL Weekly was/is Trevor Welch. He absolutely sucked the life out of that show in his remorseless attempt to repeat the same script for five years running. Everytime someone threatened to make an interesting point he panicked and cut them short instantly.
You know it'll be Roddy Collins and that baldy Cork guy that's always on RTE's live games.
It would be nice to see someone with some knowledge of LOI get the job. I really hope they get someone fresh that has a bit of passion for what they are doing. Or at least someone who can feign interest a bit better than the usual, Welch, Sherwin, McGurk types........
I've got it.............Marty Morrissey!:D
rico is available...
Were going to hear a lot more of Pat Morley saying "Different Class"
The Barry & Collins Show. Gives them something to do.Quote:

This is great news and from what I can see it will be on Monday's before Comedy night. It realy depends on how the matches are recorded and sent to Rte as to how good the quality will be.
They use an AVID system at the minute for the premiership ,which makes putting together Highlights and Analysis much easier than going through tapes and cutting and cropping the stuff together.
Trust me there are several people in RTE Sports who are LOI fans and will put their all into producing a quality broadcast.
I for one am looking forward to the best coverage we have ever had.
It's great news . The one hour highlight show could be on around 8 on a Monday or possibly slightly later on, but before EL Weekly's old slot on TV3. I take it that show is gone now.
The timing of EL Weekly was far from ideal and the repeats were even a 5:50 a.m.
To be fair to Trevor he used to cover Cork City a lot on Multichannel back in the day and I saw it a couple of times and if I recall correctly it was a better effort than TV 3's EL Weekly.
