i couldnt be arsed typing all them out so ill just go with these few:

dublin - sh1thole.
galway - great place for a **** up ( but no longer ) and ensure you are wearing the correct "attire" - on that point im going tomorrow so it should be good craic when i wear my black canvas shoes to see if i can get in anywhere other than cuba or that other place beside it.
mayo - i like it
cork - loud people
kerry - arrogant people
cavan - definitely tight people
donegal - (ex)girlfriends ( thats 3! over 5/6 years :D)

seems to me mayo is expressly defined by its gaelic football , jaysis cant we just win one sam in the modern era and let croagh patrick , ceide fields , achill or any other bloody thing come to the fore!!

Come on Paul drop that inferiority complex of yours. Arrogant? WTF?Kerry people could hardly be less arrogant. Proud, yes, we like our county, but that never boils over into arrogance. To generalise, I'd say we're probably the most unassuming 'race' in the country. You must have missed Keith Duggan's Sideline Cut around the time of the All-Ireland Final. Basically, in a typically witty and amusing fashion, he said that despite the reams of titles we've won he still couldn't possibly bring himself to dislike Kerry people because of their warm, unassuming nature, never boastful when we win, and when we lose we graciously accept defeat. Interestingly, my dad's least favourite people are Roscommon people, I might just begin to take after him the way that rapscallion O'Shea is carrying on.

And just on that stoopid point (I don't think it was meant in the Kerryman joke fashion, sorry if I misconstrued BGR!) but I was going to bring it up anyway as I think it might be something a lot of people don't, or haven't here anyway, recognise Kerry as being famous for; namely that the county has produced a plethora of great writers and poets, north Kerry in particular is a bit of a literary hotbed. As for examples from the area all in the last few decades; John B. Keane, Gabriel Fitzmaurice, Bryan McMahon, Brendan Kennelly, and John Moriarity (who was apparently Ireland's leading philosopher (maybe only though!) until his untimely death earlier this year, looking forward to reading his works sometime). Going back a bit you've the Blasketeers then as well. I think that maybe the story-telling culture lived on longer in Kerry and that it might have been a significant factor in fostering a love of, well, story telling.

I suppose golf courses would have to be thrown in there too, Ballybunion, Tralee, Waterville, Killarney, are all world-class courses, attracting thousands of yanks to our shores.

I suppose there's loads of touristy kinda things as well. Highest mountain(s). Killarney. Ring of Kerry. Blaskets are pretty famous. And don't forget Inishvickallaun!! Surfing/beaches. Valentia being the site of the first transatlantic telegraph line. That big rock in the middle of the ocean some crazy monks decided to live on. And who could forget Fungi!

If you're looking for a bit of controversy Padjoe, then we have the babies, the philandering bishop, and loads of nationalist history to delve into. Oh yeah, and of course the people are incredibly arrogant. :rolleyes:

Another thing Sligo is famous for is surfing, Strandhill is very popular. I know of one fella who came over from Germany and thought Sligo was a place in Strandhill:D

From the top of my head heres a few things:

Clare: Trad music, Bunratty castle, Lisdoonvarna, cliffs of moher, hurling, ger loughnane, ennis, shannon airport, The burren, Aillwee Caves, Craggaunowen

Tipp: Rock of Cashel, Semple Stadium, GAA was founded in Thurles, Bulmers, Denis Leamy, holy cross abbey, numerous ancient castles around the county, glens of aherlow, Eddie Moroney, Mitchelstown caves.

Looking back, numerous school tours took in a lot of those places.

As for Carlow......em.....pass!

Monaghan is famous for plenty ...and at the moment I'm thinking it's ability to recreate a little piece of Antartica shouldn't be overlooked. Not in a bad way either. Can I just commend Ollie on a post that didn't once seek to highlight the bad in any place either ...being stumped about Carlow aside (I'm stumped too). I'm not saying we should talk like a Bord Failte ad -but I think we do that too often in this country -seek to enhance our own neck of the woods by looking down the nose at other places to create counterpoint or some such. Maybe being from Limerick makes me that bit more tuned into it but it goes on a lot.

Clare, by the way, has so much going for it that's notable I'm not sure where to start. The Burren, Ailwee, Fanore, Kilkee, perriwinkles, dilisk and a pint of stout in any of the locals, Spanish Point, Lahinch, Lisdoonvarna, Miltown Malbay and the Willy Clancy festival, Ballyheigue, Enistymon, Carrigaholt, the cliffs of Moher, The Stunning/The Walls (commonly thought of as a "Galway Band" -but from Clare, the fishing at Dunlicky ...that's just the west coast! The siege of Ennis, Scattery Island and St. Senans seven churches (count 'em SEVEN! on an uninhabited island! ...to paraphrase Quint in 'Jaws' he was either very clever or very dumb), the Killimer ferry, the view from gallows hill (Ennis-Limerick-Nenagh on a good day with the estuary marking it out), the lakelands taking in Killaloe, Scariff and Mountshannon. Great little county.

I had my stag party in Tullamore in 2001. The nightclub in the Bridge Hotel is massive; I reckon it holds more than 2000. In fact, my username on foot.ie is inspired by a great Chinese restaurant called The Paddy Field in Tullamore [no, my real name isn't Paddy!].

A mate of mine who lived in Athlone often got a taxi to Tullamore instead of downtown Athlone for a night on the sauce.

Ex Athlone Town and Galway United defender Kevin Williamson is from Tullamore. I think he went on to join the Mighty Mons. Also, ex Galway United, Shamrock Rovers and Waterford United striker Stephen Grant is from Offaly before he quit to take up modelling:D
