Good God this is going to take a long time :(
Just before Kerr was appointed Daglish said he was unwilling to be interviewed for the job. 2/1 means nothing. If he was 1/10 or betting suspended then believe the rumours. It would be 2 years of "you tell me" in a Scottish accent.
Ciaran, you don't get paid for the more people that open your thread so no need for the stupid title. Anyway, thread merged.
The bookies odds have been going nuts left, right and centre for the last two months; at this stage I have no interest in or faith that the bookies represent the man "in the know".
Odds tumbling means nothing, what were the odds on Jewell taking the job before he eventually got appointed at Derby?
From todays Examiner

Dalglish is revered at Anfield, and is always welcome back. 3 League titles in 5 seasons, 2 FA Cups, a double in his first season as a boss. In just 4 years at Blackburn, he won promotion, the league, and finished runner-up. At Newcastle, he finished runner-up in the league and cup in 18 months, got them into the CL and UEFA Cup too in that time. The man is a proven winner, and would be a great choice.
But no, the masses don't want him, they'd rather have wasters such as Jewell/Sanchez/Hodgson and co instead. People with "rent-a-club boss", "golddiggers", and/or "relegation candidates" written all over their faces.
But this is Ireland. We don't want to have too high expectations.
I expect Daglish to be odds on favourite early this morning as punters read their newspapers. Yet according to the Indo Daglish has not been interviewed. What the papers are not reporting is the steady flow of money being wagered on Steve Coppell the candidate we need.
Let them wager it.
There is zero chance of appointing a current club manager. If the English couldn't, we certainly couldn't.
If you honestly think the English couldn't, I don't know what to say to you.
It was a case of why hire a club manager when you can hire a better manager who's out of work?
Cappello wasn't sacked from Real Madrid because he was ****, he was sacked because he won the league using an ugly style of play.
It would be foolish to gamble at these odds.
The Indo report though that it is believed contact has been made with Houghton, I could easily believe he is the source of any leaks.
Dalglish is the candidate with the most successfull cv at club level. It is actually outstanding apart from the Celtic stint. If he wanted the job and believed he could do it, then it would be an interesting interview.
I would rather Venables than Dagleish. At least Venners has has recent experience, it must be 10 years since King Kenny done anything in football. Another reason I don't want him is his close association with Pat Devlin.
It all just bookies nonsense. I reckon Kenny should hold his horses. Might be a vacancy in L4 pretty soon with the knee-jerk reaction thats going on this morning. At least he would get the respect he deserves from all the footballing folk there.
The return of the spelling police.
Yes, I got the spelling wrong as well at the beginning, but its difficult!! :o
Anyhoe, great to see that some of you like King Kenny.
Whether you like it or not, he is the best of a bad bunch!!
His awards alone are fantastic!

Quick - sign me up!
Now Brady's odds have been slashed too; they're as short as 4s in some places. Yesterday's banker Hoddle now looks like a rank outsider. Obviously a lot of rumours doing the rounds. Either that or, not content with the Stan/Bobby paring, the FAI have decided to go for a triumvirate of Dalglish, Venables and Brady with Hoddle acting as a spiritual consultant.
Brady?
What is wrong with people?
What is wrong with this country?
if dalglish is so great why dont the scots appoint him?
he should stick to watching liverpool, playing golf and being involved with gangsters and football agents
He might win something for them.Quote:

Dalglish fits the bill.Quote:

this is why no club team in england would consider him for managerQuote:
With Rooney all the parties involved knew they had such a player. The court case heard that at an earlier meeting in November 2002, the former Liverpool and Scotland footballer, Kenny Dalglish, invited Tommy Adams - described in court as a 'notorious gangster' - to a rendezvous at a Heathrow hotel.
It was alleged that Dalglish, a major shareholder in Proactive which represented Rooney and a long-standing friend of Stretford, wanted Adams, head of London's top criminal family who had served seven years for importing cannabis, to provide protection for Stretford at the meeting with Hyland and McIntosh.
Stretford claimed in evidence that he felt intimidated at seeing a 'London villain' present and the meeting became heated when Hyland and the others could not get Stretford to sign a deal on their terms. Dalglish and Adams apparently said little but Dalglish, a former Footballer of the Year, then refused to give police a statement.
In court, Stretford said he felt let down by Dalglish. 'I have a had a great and long relationship with Kenny Dalglish and yes, I felt let down by him.'
Stretford himself was accused of wanting Adams present. 'You knew full well that Kenny Dalglish had engineered for one of his unsavoury friends to come and facilitate this meeting,' Lord Carlile, Hylands' barrister said in court. 'It was you who brought the heavy mob, wasn't it?' Stretford denied this and said it was 'fear and confusion' that prevented him from leaving the meeting.
Dalglish was also accused of influencing Rooney's switch from McIntosh to Stretford, visiting Rooney's home to convince his parents, Wayne snr and Jeanette, that their son should change representatives.
barely!
anyway from doing a quick wikipedia search this sentence stood out for me:
that really says it all about his current standing in the game....stop living in the past man!Quote:
In May 2007, he was linked with the managerial vacancy at Sheffield United following Neil Warnock's resignation, but the job went to Bryan Robson instead.
it was widely reported during the summer
why does everyone on here question everything pointlessly?
you could of just googled it in 5 seconds
http://www.google.ie/search?hl=en&sa...G=Search&meta=
The story was reported on the odd forum, and a couple of newspapers. In any case, Robbo was always going to get that job. He'll be out of it soon enough. Maybe JD is waiting for him again...
Dalglish has a proven track record, while bringing stability to the post and potential progression, the kind of thing we need right now.
None of the "modern" candidates are very good, or very interested.
he's out of date and out of touch, coaching and management have moved on in the last 9 years.
he doesn't have a uefa pro licence. and has made no effort to get one in the last 4 years (since they have become compulsory for management in the premiership).
what does that say about the man?
he sees the Ireland job as an earner now that the salary has been raised (where was he when stan got it?) and one that wont interfere with his business interests
According to the nightly Irish manager update on Off The Ball (with suitably funky intro music) the 3 headhunters have not spoken to Kenny Dalglish and won't speak to him unless he contacts them first. Also, the new manager might be announced before the FAI AGM on January 21st or he might not - that might not be the correct date, I was half asleep listening to it
It looks like Daglish wants to be offered the job. No interviews for Kenny and on that point I agree with him. The 3-man thing has been a shambles.
http://www.examiner.ie/irishexaminer...817-qqqx=1.asp
The shambolic "interview process" has put off many, I'd wager.
Football people are an egotistical bunch, and want to be told they're the man, not asked 'probing questions' to ascertain whether they are or not..
This process is responsible for attracting the "i'll have a go's" who were sniffing around the job (Atkinson, Venables, Kendall etc etc) . We shouldn't want them, and a properly structured process would have ensured we were not embarrassed by association.
