clive clarke has had a cut off him on skysports.com today, i wonder will clives contract be renewed ha ha
There's a big and growing question mark over his transfer dealings. I see the latest player he has signed is Rade Prica. Very poor signing IMO and not worth the £2 million Sunderland have spent. I really don't understand why they would sign him when they have much better options already at the club.
I think looking at it from the outside , there is a definite lack of continuity in the team and the squad , seems to be a lot of chopping and changing going on , He should try to find out what his best team is and stick with it

Worst miss in professional football history?
Looks a bargain.
There's 43 players on the Sunderland squad according to Wikipedia.
It looks to me like over 35 of them have figured in the Premiership aswell this year.
That must be very unsettling.
The best thing Keane can do in this window is a lot of clever selling.
Then he might buy his first top-class player.
Anyone else think he is looking up decent players in Football Manager and signing them on that basis?
One thing for sure, despite the money at his disposal he can't seem to attract quality established Premiership standards players to Sunderland.
I see your miss and I raise you this:

back on topic....
RK has spent a colossal amount of money on poor to average players. most of those he has either played with or knew from his previous clubs. He proved himself to be a good man manager imo last season with sunderland winning the championship but given a very big kitty this season he has really failed to buy any worthwhile players. the only signings you could call successful to any degree are kenwin jones (good player it appears) and kieran richardson (who is injury prone, a **** and only very average). the rest have been cat (no pun intended). sunderland are very boring to watch also. afaik he has spent about 50m euro while there and most of it has been wasted it has to be said.
Agreed he has bought some very poor players. But IMO un-educated opinion if he has all his squad fit (rarely ever happens) he has a decent side. I've seen Sunderland as much as possible this season with great interest, as I did last season, his football is far from boring they actually always play good football (vs Porthsmouth, great example).
If his first choice staring eleven is available he has invariably gotten a result. Some of the old crew are actually also working as coachs, ie Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke both of whom are both caochs.
The reported reason that he has only signed average, Championship level players is that last season he, and the rest of his staff, didn't expect to get promoted and had scouted players to get them promoted from the Championship this season. Since these are the only players he has managed to assess, he's gone for the best of them.
While the January window is generally acknowledged to be an "Ooops!" or "Shop soiled goods" sale & there's historically an obvious lack of big name moves (With the noted exception this year of Nic "I went to Chelsea in the window and all I got was a lousy 5 games during the African cup of nations and an enormous pile of money" Anelka. And to be fair, he has seemingly played for 138 clubs in the last 10 seasons, and no-one really expected him to invest in a Pie shop in Bolton as a post playing career nest egg...) even so, if I were part of the Drumaville consortium, I'd be concerned with the eagerness that some transfer listed players are displaying when a chance of a move to the allegedly 'dead and buried' Derby is mentioned, while Sunderland couldn't capture a decent signature with a battallion of tanks.
I know the Drumaville Consortium bought the controlling interest in Sunderland but has Quinn put much of his own money in to the club I wonder? Also, being a professional footballer for most of his life, what qualification from a business point of view does he have to run a business like a football club?
I wonder is he just a figurehead Chairman, with the strings controlled by the Consortium, or does he have a real say in the running of the club? To be honest, and I like the man, he doesn't seem to be the sharpest tool in the box to me.
Anyone know the answers?
That Prica looked half decent last night - took his goal very well. Bardsley was a lot more solid than Halford as well. From an Irish perspective I thought all the Irish lads had decent games - Murphy took his goal well and Miller was full of energy.
Yeah in fairness to Prica he did well when he came on. Very important goal for him on a personal level as he has just been left out of the Swedish squad for next week's friendly match.
Good to see Murphy get on the scoresheet. He had a very good second half against Spurs last time out and it's good to see him follow that up with another good performance.
Ya Murphy had a good game. I can't help but wonder about Liam Miller he just seems to lack pace over the first five yards his work rate was brilliant, but then again same could be said for all the players.
Bardsley done well very and is good in the tackle. Me thinks thats the end of Mc Shane and he can only blame himself.
Noswothy is so dodgy but he has great pace. Evans looks after him something rotten though he did get caught in the first half.
Prica looked a good player, doesn't seem to leap too well though, he is very strong. Hope he becomes a good player for Sunderland god knows they need it.
Well, he did it.
They looked a lot better since January and I think next year they'll be able to do better. At least he'll have one season in the top flight under his belt and he'll have an idea how to do it next year.
they'll be alot stronger next year i reckon
£70m allegedly. After Dunne and Ireland apparantly. They should definitely improve next season.
Keane is such a divisive character you rarely read a balanced analysis of his stewardship of Sunderland or his general character. When assessing anybody surely there is pluses and minuses..A guy from the Indo and Pat Dolan were recently heralding his achievements as a manager without assessing his success record with transfers etc.In fairness to Keane he has admitted losing 22 games can not go down as a successful season.
Personally I would give him some credit for keeping Sunderland in the Premier but he is going to have to do well in the transfer market to improve what is a very mediocre side.
Obviously there is the Saipan episode lingering in some peoples mind and will never have a good word to say about him.Likewise his "fans" have always defended him even when its clear he was in the wrong and at times it has looked pathetic- a bit like sucking up to the school bully. He has shown an admirable
growth in maturity last year or so but getting invovled in things like the Richard Sadlier incident is silly. Its a journalists job to get readable quotes.
I like the fact he has given so many Irish players an opportunity and hope he does well.
Id say keane could get a few off reading if they go down. He has spent money on pure sh*t players bar Reid.Ingimarson, Bikey, Hunt, Kitson off reading and forssell of birmingham is in the rumour mill
And no one else in the Premiership would be interested either  ?
Kenyne Jones was a good buy imho along with Reid. Having seen both play for Wednesday and Ireland respectively, I could have told him that. I could also have told him that Harte was well past his sell by date but the omnipotent Roy knows best.
Bardsley has been a success as has Johny Evans. Christ even Chopra has scored a few important goals which has helped them achieve premiership safety. Now that Sunderland have consolidated their PL position I'd expect to see a few 'bigger' names at the Stadium of Light next season - especially if Quinny increases their wage bill allowance.
I think his signingings have been very hit & miss, Jones is a good player, as is the keeper Gordon & Reid has done well because he's had the good sense to give him a free role and stick a few battlers around him, Chopra, McShane, Stokes and a couple of others look like championship players who won't adapt.
In general despite all the guff, getting them up last season considering where they were when he took over was a great achievement, keeping them up was a solid job considering the moeny that was spent. Given the £30m+ they get just for staying up I think it was money well spent, if he adds a good centre half to his squad and a nippy striker to play alongside Jones they'll be mid-table next season, hard to see them cracking the top 8 without a fair bit of investment.
He bought some crap players alrite but in fairness if it was anyone else managing Sunderland would we be questioning the quality of signings? I think he expected to be in the Championship another year and consequently needed to off load a lot players he had brought to keep them up(they were rooted to the bottom when he took over). He then bought in some of the better championship players he had encountered and a couple of old pros to keep them in the Premiership. In all honestly who do people think they could have gotten in? Sunderland are not a big club. As someone else said I think he will be doing well to keep them up again next season. I cant see him attracting any big name players there in the off season.
