Think youse have the same problem Steve described re Derry - location i.e. not that many players want to go to Cork. In the long term, that could be good in a perverse kinda way though, cos it'd put more emphasis on development of young players coming through the ranks.Quote:

Couldn't be happier with Cook personally. Most honest manager ever. Just hope he gets the funding he needs to stay on for next season.
It's wrong to only judge Pete Mahon on the basis of the first team's performance. He's rebuilt the club's youth structures since he-who-cannot-be-named left and that's a lot more important to us in the long run than where the first team finishes.
Rico certainly has his failures but City are great entertainment and the Connor/Doolin style of play would really test my patience.
Contrary to most I think he's done great when given a free hand in the transfer market ie this year.
Long term thinking sometimes infuriates me.
The attitude to our pre-season and initial few games this year was disgraceful.
Of the eL usuals, I'd only swap him for Scully.
Cousins seems to have the respect of the players which is unusual for a Galway United manager. Most of the players he brought in this season are damn good and only make a lot of the players that he inherited look inadequate. Hopefully, Cousins has learned a lot from his first full season in charge and will up the ante in 2008.
His job spec for 2007 was to implement a full-time set up, avoid relegation, and have a good run in the cups.
Two out of three 'aint bad.
On the downside, Cousins loses points (literally) for the following two reasons:
1, he commutes from Dublin on a daily basis whereas all of the players reside in Galway
2, the quality of the football is sometimes just muck
nothing to do with the quality of football (or extreme lack of it) or the fact he sh1ts himself if we take a lead and pulls everyone back into the area and plays to the corners even if there is a half an hour left!!!!!Quote:

Pete Mahon is invaluable to UCD but I'm not sure if it suits the club to have him as first team manager. As Bald Student pointed out, his contribution to the club in terms of restructuring (or is that rebuilding?) the club's developmental and scouting setup is immense. I feel he's not getting the best out of those players he's so good at bringing into the club though. I think the way forward for the club is to have him as a director of football overseeing the whole operation with someone younger to coach the players and select the team. Some of the descriptions of what's going on with the club suggest something like that but I don't know if that still includes Pete as manager. I'm not desperate for him to be kicked out the door or anything but I feel we're not doing as well as we can.
Rico has done a good job at a difficult time for us but I get the feeling, he'll bow out after the Cup Final, hopefully on a high.

I`m very happy with john gill, 2nd place and 3rd place in two seasons, won a play off the first (well he did), ok this season wasn`t good as we led by 6 pts in june, but certain players didnt perform and our defence was ravaged by injuries all summer. In saying that the state we were in before he arrived (9th, 8th, 5th) not to mention the off field situation, we are in much better shape now. Its just taking a year longer than we expected.
He`ll do a good job for us long term.
I was going to say I was pretty happy with Rico, but having read the story about the new crest on http://www.corkcityfc.ie/index2.htm I think the club should be immediately disbanded and all associated with it locked up.

Say what you like. He gets results. His targets were top 4 finish in the League ... Bohs ended up 3rd. He wanted to do well in the Cups , 1 Final and 1 Semi-final is better than almost all the other teams in the League managed.Quote:

he doesnt get the important ones, like winning cups to qualify for Setanta and UEFA, not mickey mouse sh1te like the InterToto. Furthermore, tactically he leaves a lot to be desired, his team plays sh1te football and he spends money very poorly. 20 odd signings and only a handful that have added to our team in any significant way.Quote:

I think having to manage a team like UCD with it's resources would be a superb test for someone like Mourinho or Wenger. Johnny mac has done well and we have progressed under him. No doubt about it. Whether we can progress anymore, im not sure. A lot depends on signings during the close season which a manager also has to be judged on regardless of resources. You can have great rsources and bring in cr*p players. Johnny has had a few "ifs" in this department so it will be interesting to see how he does this year.(If he gets the chance).

MICK COOKE STAYS ON AS MANAGER
Monaghan United FC have officially confirmed that Mick Cooke has been offered and accepted another contract as Manager of the Senior team. Cooke joined Monaghan United in September 2003 and is one of the longest serving managers of the eircom League.
Cooke brought in some fine players over the season and hopes to retain the bulk of his squad for the 2008 season.
“I have decided to stay at United as I feel Monaghan are a club who are going places. They are well organised and the future of football in the area is in good hands. They have had some phenomenal success for a small club. Recently Philip Donnelly from the Under 15’s squad was on trials with Blackburn Rovers and Aaron McCarey, also from the Under 15’s is heading to Aston Villa on trials in the coming weeks and has earned his first cap at Under 16 level. The Women’s team won their first league title this year, in what was their second season in existence. The Under 21’s won the Foyle Cup during the summer. All these positives show that United are moving in the right direction and I am delighted to be part of such a progressive set up.”

Stephen Henderson has won the league with one of the lowest budgets in the first division,(prob half of Athlone Shels Harps Dundalks) and seems to be a manager that is backed by ALL his players,i think motivation is a big factor in the first division and having a good coach which Ramblers have in Martin Cambridge,i reacon he could be around for a while yet but seems settled in Cobh so long may his policy"s continue.:)
PS. Best manager in the prem this year has to be scully and to a lesser extent cook for his style of play.
