Ridiculously few mentions for Peep Show here
Everybody, Go Watch!!!
In no particular order
Blackadder
Porridge
Only Fools
Fawlty Towers
Bottom
Frasier
The Young Ones
Bilko
Fr Ted
Yes Minister/PM
Rising damp must be in there although it is ITV which is a barren wasteland for comedies - actually ITV is an barren wasteland for anything remotely funny/interesting
Curb - The Grand Opening (don't watch or rather listen to if easily offended)
If you are allowing cartoons i'd have to add South Park. :)
Possibly my favourite tv moment of recent years. The Mommy mommy line never fails to bring a smile. :D
Curb - The Doll
Not really a big Webb and Mitchell fan , but thisalways cracked me up:D
I recently bought every episode of Bilko ever made. It spans 18 discs and you can get them on ebay. Quality stuff.
Anyone else like King of Queens?
Jerry Stiller is the only good thing on King of Queens, but he makes the whole show worth watching.
Gustavo I just get a big white square but I'm hoping that's the German with the crisis of confidence sketch. "Are we the baddies?" Pure Quality!
1. The Larry Sanders Show
2. Extras
3. Curb Your Enthusiasm
4. Frasier
5. Porridge
6. The Office
7. Father Ted
8. Pheonix Nights
9. The Mighty Boosh
10. Seinfeld
Of course cartoons don't count. Even though the Simpsons is the best TV show ever made, it's not a sitcom.
Of course the Boosh is a sitcom. What do you call being marooned on a desert island and having to make a 'special friend' from a coconut on a stick if not a situation? :D
Meh. It's just another style as far as I'm concerned. You might as well say that Bilko doesn't count because it's in black and white.:)
Only 3 of your list (Porridge, and to a lesser extent Seinfeld and Father Ted) follow the traditional sitcom-convention of multi-camera, studio-based setup with a 'laugh track' but it doesn't mean the rest don't count, does it.:p
I'm surprised noone has mentioned The Honeymooners and I Love Lucy. The originals and the best.
Men behaving badly
curb your enthusiasm
league of gentlemen
arrested development
only fools and horses - only one that can bring a tear to your eye
fawlty towers
blackadder
father ted
royle family
porridge
Very few recent ones. Curb and Arrested definitely the best american ones, with some Cheers. Am I the first to ref League of Gentlemen?
I'm excluding American shows on the grounds that even the funny ones are too smug/sentimental to be enjoyable.
10: Steptoe and Son
9: Yes, Minister
8: Father Ted
7: League of Gentlemen
6: Fawlty Towers
5: I'm Alan Partridge
4: Rab C. Nesbitt
3: Blackadder
2: The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin
1: The Office
I never really watched Spaced enough to consider it for inclusion. Red Dwarf was quite funny but tarred by association with geeks.
Seinfeld - brilliant!
This one is very good..
Great quote by George's mother:
"too bad you can't do that for a living":D
Porridge
The Royle Family,
The Office,
Last of the Summer Wine,
Only Fools and Horses
Thats close enough. Any of those five and I'm happy out.

im sorry but american comedy isnt a scratch on that
I've always wondered if Father Ted shown in the US or other countries & if the humour translated...
My Lovely Horse
i heard that the american religious nuts wouldnt stand for it, same for australia
i remember in Korea, the german guy that owned THAT bar (cant remerber name) had fr ted nights that were hugely successful
by the way.cant believe no one mentioned Trailer park Boys........cool
As far as I know, it was never shown on mainstream TV in the US, however, BBC America has a series on now and again. As for the humour translating, yes it does, amongst my American friends anyway. Having said that, I'm no Father Ted, but I'm a pretty cool dude though.:D
Cant believe I left out Steptoe and Son,
Add in Open all Hours to that aswell.
Forgot Alan Partridge and Married With Children as well, both quality shows
What about the "Young Ones"....loved that show.
