That makes no sense at all mate.... re-read and re-write if possible
Yet another wasted rush job:)
why would they have to have been consulted? It's a tournament run by its own committee under the jurisdiction of both the IFA and FAI. The rules are drawn up by the committee who then ask the relevant body to invite participants. No consultation needed with anybody - its not as if clubs are affiliated with the Setanta Cup the way they are with the League or FAI
Its a big blow to Shelbourne Football club and especially there fans that they pulled out of Setanta...
Can't remember where my rule book is, but this suggests that Sligo Rovers should be in.
Agreed, but the best on offer at the moment; hence 'suggests'

The reason people have little sympathy for Shels is simple. They were spending money that everybody knew they hadnt got, they were spending money taking every issue that went against them to arbitration/court/tribunal in order to win the titles, they spent money trying to keep players even though they werent paying them [and losing a fortune at the same time] and they have the most gullible bunch of idiots supporting them who had too much faith in Ollie Byrne and were not prepared to believe what everyone told them over the past 5 years.
In May 2005, a group of Shels fans held up a banner with "J€A£OU$" written on it because they had signed 3 Bohs players they couldnt afford. I wonder who is Jealous now.
If what I am hearing is true, next season's fixture list wont contain Shelbourne. I for one wont shed a tear although I will regret not having one last chance to gloat.
As Bohs Partisan says elwewhere, a few more team north and south of the border and we'll have an all-Ireland league before w eknow it, bring it on.
Obviously means Shels stripped of league
Derry City won the FAI Cup but not the league, so the FAI Cup runners up shouldn't qualify. Unless... the Setanta committee are promoting City to the league winners spot in lieu of Shels.
A dead heat:)
Shels wont be stripped of the title..Quote:

Going on this Rovers are in. The rules arent been applied properly.
Maybe we could get a bulk discount on court cases
Thats a joke, two seasons ago Derry had a place in the SSC by finishing 2nd in the league.
They beat UCD in the league cup final but College still didn't get a place in the SSC so why should Pats??
Typical of the league because UCD were under the impression that if (in the very unlikely event at the time) they beat Shels in the semi's of that cup they would take the SSC place as Derry had a league spot, so the SSC committee took on this rule that it would go to next in the league because as we all know UCD (in the FAI's eyes) are not wanted in the league.
So now we see the rule being bent back because a high profile team like Pats are in a position to be called upon.
A messy start already and a ball hasn't even been kicked:rolleyes:
Surprised by this development.
Shel must be in the absolute soup and unable to even get crediot from their coach company etc in order for them to pull out of this.
Gutted that the group of death won't have one team we can write off now. D'oh !
Shels are pure w@nkers though. Why couldn't this have happened to them before the end of the league season - then we might have had a worthy champion at the end of it.
Because the FAI cup ranks higher. Look at the English situation. Lose the FA Cup to a team in the chamions league, you get UEFA Cup (West Ham in 2006), lose the League Cup final, you get nothing (Wigan in 2006)
Here, the FAI Cup is an avenue to Europe. the League Cup isn't so obviously ranks higher...
Exactly I mean Check this out
Would you get a grip, you haven't seen the rules and you're making assumptions based on rules posted by a Shels fan.
Here's the FAI's word on it
http://www.fai.ie/index.php?option=c...k=view&id=1650
St. Patrick's Athletic, as runners-up to Derry City in the FAI Carlsberg Cup final, will automatically be invited to take their place as per the rules of the competition
Added to that its an INVITATIONAL tournament...
the rules are whatever a commercial company, namely setanta, decide they are, and we can all like it or lump it
in this case i like it!!!!!!!
THE SSC has no equivilent in football here and is bound by their commercial needs, not any other consideration.
have you seen them?
we all know the fai to be sooooo competent:rolleyes:
if pats were in rovers situation now youd be baying for the spot.. because they are breaking their own rules
if shels had been stripped of their title i wouldnt mind, cause setanta would not be breaking the rules
but they havent.. so please.. stop being biased
If its only commercial needs then Sligo are in - much better support. Seems like the Setanta committe have stripped Shels of the title if they are using their own rules. Now that is something they cannot do.
Is the only place it has been confirmed the Pats website?
Edit - its only the Setanta website now, odd decision considering their logic is "St Pat's were invited to participate as a result - they would have earned a spot in the competition had their defeated Derry City in the FAI Cup final in December ". UCD would have earned a place had they won the league cup.

What a well thought out arguement. Sligo are the third best supported team in the country.

Maybe it is the prelude of the FAI revoking Shelbournes title tomorrow morning because they 'lied'.
