They were pretty shocking in Livorno last month to be honest

Was told by one of the germans I was with that most germans dont know the words of their national anthem! IMO our singing of our national anthem was the best singing of the match. I didnt even realsie there was a woman singin it! :D
I'm not surprised, they had to put up the words on the big screen FFS!I didn't either. Probably just as well, I hate having one person on the pitch singing the anthem.Quote:

Agreed except for me he's second only to Dunphy. "Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, thank you for behaving yourselves".
I remember he gave the answer to some pathetic trivia question at the end of the Swiss or French game when we were all ready to hang ourselves.
Great shout there lads, we need to get rid of him and get Joe Duffy in with his
"the Spanish players were suffering from DDD" Damien Duff Dizziness"
Yeah, I thought about commenting on other aspects of the Croatian support in my original post. Obviously they do have some dubious elements within their support and some very dodgy political persuasions, but I think the general point still stands, lets stop whining about the shirts other Ireland fans wear, the KO times, the types of stadium, the types of songs etc and all the other excuses for why atmospheres aren't what they used to be. There are a lot of folk who seem to be just looking for the perfect, politically correct, fan.
If anything sounds like corporate, johnnie come lately bull$hit, its that.
Hey mr stuttgart 88 any chance of loaning the match recording ?
By the way i was in Dortmund during the WC for the Swiss v Togo match.
It is an excellent football stadium.
I was also there for Liverpool 78 v Alaves 77 or whatever the final score was. The atmosphere was great.
I will say this, it was nice to see a lot more Irish jerseys and very few Celtic jerseys at the match. Not to cause a sh*tstorm but Celtic jerseys do not belong at an Ireland match.
Best quote so far.Quote:
The German atmosphere was very organised.
And did you know that the Irish supporters drank a lot.
There was nothing wrong with the organised support, just the loud music at wholly inappropriate times.
Well done to the German FA and the German Fan Club for working together on such a large scale.
The organised meet before the game was excellent even though the venue was difficult to get to due to the main road by the stadium being fenced off.
I'm sure we could learn something from them, or at least the FAI should learn something !
Personally I never wear football shirts of any kind as I'm far too old and fat for that sort of thing.
It's a green Fred Perry for me.:)
Celtic shirts worn at Ireland games long before the new age Ireland Supporter starting trying to dictate what was acceptable attire. If your not trying to stir it up, why mention it?
Agreed about the atmosphere being the brilliant. The Anthem was fantastic with so many singing loudly. Even the people who didnt know the words hummed really loud. It was mentioned in a post before we went that we should try get everyone to bounce up and down for the game while singing.. That, to me would be Savage !! If it does happen in one of the next few games then i think that there would be very very few on here moaning about it because we'd be saying that it was one of the best atmospheres. (It'd be worth to keep on the toes as well if its a freezing cold night)
Just to clarify the shirt thing from my original post,in this instance these fans were the type of person you would expect to see at a social function in the Burlington hotel, button shirts and slacks n slip on shoes, ladies with long flowing dresses.Seamed more like a government junket to Germany.
Imagine that, wearing a WHITE Irish shirt. They should banned from every football ground in the world, if not shot.
Perhaps because it is a legitimate issue? You rarely see Man. United or Liverpool shirts at England matches.
The Irish team is seperate from Celtic and the shirts should reflect that. Show some pride in the Irish national team. You can do that withou denigrating Celtic or diluting your support for Ireland.
So you rely on everyone else to provide the colour then ? I hate seeing supporters at game not wearing the colours - it's as if they think they're beyond that sort of thing. You're never too old to wear the colours - it's a sacred duty.
Whatever about wearing Celtic jerseys, which are at least green and white, what gets me are the people who wear blue Dublin GAA jerseys or other county jerseys. I certainly, along with Fred Perry tops, think they have no place in the stadium at an away soccer international.
This is a great debate, what colour shirts to wear at the match.:)
When are we going to discuss shoes ?
It was in response to the Chippy post - read back.
This thread is a fcuking joke, Im pleased to say that never once in my time following Ireland with some of the most dedicated fans you could meet has any of them had the inclination to comment on what I was wearing to the game.
I've worn Ireland shirts, GAA shirts, Celtic shirts, civvies all to Ireland matches, Im always the same type of fan? This thread has turned in to a playground like conversation and whats worse I can't believe Im fcuking contributing to it!!!!!!
Wear what you like before the game IMO. It would be nice if everyone could wear the jersey to the game just for the added colour but if not I'm not too bothered.
Very true, read any copy of YBIG and you are sure to find a rant against ‘suits’ and how ‘real’ fans get the s**tty end of the stick. Every fans seems to think that what they do is right and they are the ‘real’ fans and others are wrong.
It’s like to shirt debate on this thread. If you do not have an Ireland shirt (green or white) some sort of other green shirt will do, be it Fred Perry polo shirt, a Celtic shirt or a Phanathinokas shirt (but remember that Celtic are a British club and Panathinakos have nothing to do with Ireland).
On the atmosphere generation topic, Fran Rooney tried this in Lansdowne for a few games in 2003 or 2004.
Handed out green cards, but only to those visible to the TV cameras, with ‘chants’ on the back (‘Ireland ‘tll I die’ being one of them) and brought a PA announcer from Celtic over to rev us all up in a Scots accent.
Also tried to get a singing section in the terraces made up of LOI fans with huge big LOI club flags.
It did not really work and only lasted a few games, probably cos there were too many ‘suites’ there, opps there I go again.
I thought the atmosphere is the ground at Stuttgart was good, even though it was choreographed. Thought the flags were a good touch.
I think the fact that games are generally played on a freezing nite in sept/oct/nov kinda puts me off wearing a t shirt with "eircom" plastered accross the front. as well as that the jersey changes so often and the designs are always awful. I always thought the korean " be the reds" t shirts were a great idea. altho we are too obsessed with labels in this country to ever do that. or them orange jump suits the dutch wear would be cool as well. cept maybe in green....anyways the atmos in lansdowne is always brutal.nuthin to do with suits. more to do with the fare on offer.
The quality of the shirts are so bad that I have given up buying them, I normally wear my James Joyce T-Shirt or a Rugby Shirt if it's a bit nippy.
I have a genuine green wool bobble hat (green and white bob on top), my dear sainted mother knitted for me. Would that be passable these days as a retro fashion statement or is it strictly logoed polyester?
'Brown shoes don't make it'Quote:
Bugger.
I was wearing brown shoes
This is getting ridiculous.
I'm not allowed to wear anything.
Where does it state on the ticket about dress code ?
I'll turn up naked to the next game and it'll serve you all right.
Shirts - bottom line
Wear whatever colour the team are playing in at the game be it green or white.
We were playing in green so it would have been more appropriate to have worn a green top/shirt/t shirt/vest/bra etc so we could stand out from the german support as unless the players have superpowers thay would have great difficulty picking out a white irish shirt from the white German one.
If we were playing in white then white would have been more appropriate.
End of discussion.
How do you know in advance which colour we're going to be wearing?
No wonder the atmosphere in landsdowne is **** e these days with idiots on this site arguing incessantly about what to wear to matches and what songs etc are acceptable. If these muppets were around in the 80's early 90's they wouls soon have been told where to go. Stick to the rugby ye morons.
Excellent choice. May i ask what shade/hue and will Sir be wearing a traditional tie or a cravat?? These little things could make all the difference against the Czech Rep.:rolleyes:Quote:
I'm wearing a blue suit by the way.
Well the Germans wear white so let me see??? Emmmm it's a toughieQuote:
How do you know in advance which colour we're going to be wearing?
It's actually dark blue, but it's a little shiny 'cos it's old and has been worn a lot. I wear it when I'm on my tractor spreading muck.
Anyway, I thought this was a football forum.
I didn't really join to read about people's match day fashion tastes.
It's been quite revealing though.
Thanks everyone.
