Fair play to GUFC for giving Tony the go-ahead to sign two Premier Division players (with another to follow??). The beauty of the two lads' additions is that it should - in theory at least - improve the efforts of every other defender and midfielder as well.
Weso is still a very good player, when he is fit he is one of the best ni the league but he has had a few injuries over the past year and hasn't ever got back to full fitness but when he does you have a excellent defender.
I'd be surprised if we were'nt in the premier next season. The off the field side of stuff is brilliant, the club is run superbely and work is being done all the time.
Conor Gethins is now a Galway player for the remainder of the season
is that official? info on gethins: http://finnharps.openhosts.com/Squad/conorgethins.htmQuote:

Why would we be after him?we have 2 players on trial with us over from the UK at the moment, hardly need a First Division player...although we would take Raf back.
Best of luck anyway,Cousins is signing people at least, not too sure about their quality....and you know how i feel about Big Wesleys ability but i better not get into that.
Another very encouraging signing.
later on today.Good Pic of Tony,Wes and Micko in Quay St. on the offy site.Well done to all involved lets hope the soccer public of the City & County respond on friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2 well built players, something we haven't had in a long time.
Could they not find a ball for Wes ? ;)
I'm considering betting on Galway to win the First Division now with all these good signings!
Well JC will gladely take your money ! :D
Never mind JC - we're still 5-1 with a couple of other firms (see www.odds-comparison.co.uk) which I would consider a good bet.
i see that Gethins is only on loan to us, bit of a catch 22 situation:
if he plays good for us Harps will want him back at the end of the
season, if he plays crap we wont want him. Hope all the new players
have a good game tomorrow.

dont think gethins can play tomorrow - not eligible yet?
He has a long way to go before he gets into my first 11. He's been out with injury for awhile i think and at the mo murphs and moran are on song. Odds on murphs getting 20+ anybody:D
the official website says he is available now:confused:
"Conor Gethins signs for United
Galway United would like to announce the signing of Finn Harps striker Conor Gethins on a loan deal until the end of the season.
Gethins joined Finn Harps last season and previously played in Scotland with Ross County. He scored four goals against Kildare County in the opening game of the season but his progress this season was halted after he broke his foot in a League Cup fixture against us in Ballybofey in early April.
The 23 year old will be available for the game against Limerick FC on Friday evening. "
ya, because he is coming in onloan to us he can go straight into the starting team as all the paper work involved remains the same as his main contract (the one the FAI care about) is still with Harps.
yea i had origionally heard he was signing a two year contract
god they better win after all the positives and the big fororay about friday night :D
I can't see Harps not wanting Conor back- he's our best player and his signing makes me believe ye're hot favourites for the title now.
Brilliant signing for ye. Crap for us but we have to cut our cloth while we still can.
How come Willie Doyle ended up at kilkenny city? Would srfc not let him come to us? I hope your right about the prediction Galway Harps!
Doesnt kilkenny city all train in dublin? easy move for Doyle if thats still the case. We dont need him anyway.
I take it anyway that everyone is in agreement that we have brought in some good signings that have strengthened our squad. But, does anyone think that that is it now, or will we see one more before the close of the window monday night? If so, is there any other position that is weak at the moment? IMO, I think Tony is now happy with what he has.
i dont see anymore coming - especially when others like raf start coming back next month etc.
Na, I heard there was another two after Wes and we've got them now. We don't need to go breaking the bank. We're in with a good shout now and I want us promoted on merit and not in the ways some other forums are suggesting. This team is strong enough to win the title so let's see can we do it.
I see that limerick and waterford have asked to take george o'callaghan on loan from cork for the remainder of the season. I think we should put our name in as well for the hell of it! He would be a good addition to the squad !!! :D
David Ennis has signed from Dublin City FC.Don't know that much about him though!
Gethins was highly thought of at Finn Harps but I think he broke his leg and then struggled to get back into the team
These signings have been a bit of a change for United.previously they were bringing in a lot of lads from Galway junior soccer(which was good for promoting the local grass roots) but in reality most of them werent good enough. Now we have guys with proven experience (O Donnell, 6 years with UCD, Gethens with Ross Co. and Harps and Charles with Bray.
Hopefully a nice mixture of local talent and EL experience can deliver the goods.
It is but he's a free agent.Sorry was a free agent.;)
