As things stand, this country has invested much of its national identity and most of its cultural capital in developing the monster that is GAA football, probably at the expense of the language.
Most of the population speak English. We need an English language name that doesn't ape English football. If we want an Irish alternative version, we can have that too, but giving it an exclusively Irish name, because of good intentions re the language, would be suicide.
