Peter Farrell played for Shamrock Rovers before going on to captain Everton for many years. He also played (and scored) in the famous victory over England at Goodison Park.
Also, while I understand that familiarity can breed contempt, it would be churlish for no-one to mention Johnny Giles in a thread like this.
so to be considered a big name all you have to do is have played here and then at some point played in the UK?
David Fairclough, the ginger "Super Sub" that scored a lot of important late goals for Liverpool in their European Cup wins, most famously against Saint Etienne in 1977 and Mike Channon, the ex-Southampton legend and now successul horsey man both played for the Harps in the 80s.
They were both pure and utter cack.
Brendan Bradley, the king of League of Ireland football also had a spell with us :D

Yes youare correct in saying that the EL has got some great players but
Efan Ekoku is far was a far superior player than Eamon Zayed and Jason Byrne will ever be, with the exception of Doyle the others you have mentioned will never be good enough to play in any top divisions , consider international caps plus 8-10 years of premiership experience, then consider Zayed at Bray, and Byrne at Shelbourne- need i say anymore,

Mate of mine's father used to manage Shels and he signed Jimmy Johnstone, who lodged with him. Unfortunately every time Jimmy's wife rang from Scotland looking for her man, he was off down in Leeson Street and she eventually ordered him home to Glasgow.

Llewlin Reilly plated for Galway United. Who? He was the top scorer for the Barbados international team and Don O'Riordan brought him to Galway, got him signed up and set him in with an apartment. He played half a game in Turner's Cross against Cork City in the p***ing rain and got kicked around the place by City....and fled back to Barbados the following day.

Ewan Fenton - played for Balckpool in the Matthews final had a few stints as manager and player manager.
Andy McEvoy joint leading scorer in England in the 60's one season played for us.
Eoin Hand managed us for 3 seasons and played as well.
Billy Hamiltion ex NI Internatioanl played for and managed Limerick - and played for Sligo.
Brian Flynn former Welsh International also played for us.
Kenny Clements former Man City defender was our player manager. I still have nightmares about him. :mad:

We signed Malcolm McDonald aka Supmac but he never played due to a compensation wrangle with his insurers. he did go on the field before a game v Dundalk in 1979.
Jimmy Delaney played for Cork Athletic in the 1956 cup final. Noel Cantwell also played for Cork Athletic. Raich Carter playe din the 53 Cup final for Athletic.
Charlie Tully guested for Limerick in a friendly but played for Cork Hibs.
