Healy looking for Eagles switch

Republic of Ireland international Colin Healy has pulled out of a potential move to Selhurst Park because he feels he would be unable to command a first team place under Iain Dowie, by Stuart Pink.

The 26-year-old, who has not played a competitive fixture since sustaining a broken leg while playing for Sunderland in December 2003, had been on trial at the club for two weeks.

But Healy decided to call time on his short stay with the Eagles due to his concerns of getting minimal first team action in his bid to return to top level football.

Palace director of football Bob Dowie said: "Colin is no longer with us. He didn't feel he would get in the team here so he's looking to join clubs at a lower level to prove himself there and maybe come back to us.

"It was his decision. He just felt he needed to play regularly and he couldn't do that here. But something could happen in the future."

Sad really ... I live quite close to Selhurst and would have gone down there to see him play.

Was gonna post this on the Healy joins Livi thread but it's been locked for some reaon instead of merged.
Anyway, Rico told the supporters forum tonight that an approach was made but he wanted to stay in the UK.
Good to hear though i don't know what would have happened to the Georgie/Gamble partnership.
Frankly i believe we're better than Livingston but if he can scrape himself a move to West Brom or Leeds or Watford or someone at the seasons end, it will have proved the best decision for him.

Healy was anonymous. I didn't notice him tbh. Same for Hoolahan - can't see why he justifies all the p, w and s that's been written about him on here.

played leftback, got forward on occasion but tbh Livingston were rubbish and it was very hard to judge whether any of their players were much cop.

Healy a victim of serious overhype? so is not true that his leg was broken two times followed by some serious ligament damage, that it's somewhat of a medical miracle and an example of mental fortitude that that the fellah is even in training never mind playing again.

Of course his injuries are a matter of record he has done well to recover from them. I was referring to his playing ability before he suffered the leg breaks. The lad was never given a chance to establish himself in the first team before the media here were hailing him as the new saviour of Irish football.

healy was a terrific player before he got injured. some people have short memories. i wouldnt put him in the same league as miller.

He was a GOOD player IMO but not a terrific player, he had plenty of potential though which will now be very difficult to attain because of his injuries.

I'm delighted for Colin. He played 83 minutes today. Thats a sign of real progress. I cannot believe some of the negativity shown towards him on this thread. He's a very genuine lad who never moaned when things didn't go his way. He's shown great character to return to football. I really hope he keeps making progress and fulfils the undoubted potential he displayed in his earlier days.

Another 90 minutes and a goal for Colin today. Livingston's results have improved considerably since Healy arrived at the club. I'd love to see him included in Stan's squad for the training camp.

Edit: Noel Hunt scored what looks like being the winner for Dunfermline in the same game.

Livingston are now playing easier teams as league has split. All but relegated now though.

Sounds like Colin has been done over by the FAI. We don't know the full details but his statement seems to be very much pointing the finger at Marc Canham. If it resulted in Canham finally getting a long overdue boot out of Irish football then maybe at least something positive would come form this latest FAI shambles.

I always have less sympathy for people when they hang on and wait until they know the story will get maximum coverage from the media.

In this case - new coach announced yesterday, big press conference today. Colin Healy decides to go public this morning.
Healy has been treated terribly and the FAI's behaviour is abhorrent, but he could have went public last week or hang on until next week.

It takes away from the new managers 'day in the sun' and just screams 'look at poor me'.
And of course not forgetting to wish Carla Ward luck in her new role at the end of the statement.

The FAI are at least claiming that "We were always open to whoever was appointed as head coach considering Colin as a number-two... subject to who comes in and whether or not they would express an interest in Colin as being their number two, we would be open to it,"

So it is also possible that may have played a role. Something along the lines of �we�re not renewing your contract until we have a manager in place but once we�ve found our manager, we�ll recommend you to the incumbent and go from there.�

Definitely poor management of the situation but Myles' point is valid. Healy must be well familiar with the revolving-door management norm and would be better served walking away. Shades of Robbie Keane's exit following the McCarthy/Kenny handover - minus the big bucks, of course.

Yeah, the problem is that whenever there's any kind of he says/she says involving Canham, he now has zero credit in the bank with the public. That won't change as long as he's at the FAI - the damage is already done.

This, the handling of the abuse in the women's team, the handling of hiring HH...it reeks of a coward who's incapable of having difficult conversations.

Canham probably sees himself as a good guy who keeps getting dealt a tough hand, and maybe he is a decent person, but that's the job and he's had 3 strikes in one year.

To me, it reeks of someone keeping his options open, regardless of how it might affect others. If he'd pulled it off it might be fine but it didn't work and lives are affected. Poor leadership ultimately.

Healy claims he was being offered the Cobh job, and with his being a Cork man who now had two young children to look after following the death of his wife, there is no way he'd have turned that down had he thought he might not be retained by the FAI in the new set-up. Therefore he was surely given some sort of reassurance by Canham.

There are a number of reasons why Canham might originally have given Healy an assurance about his job. These include his value to help the new appointee to settle in etc, as well as to the team generally. Also the fact that if the new appointee didn't work out, he'd be on hand to step up, whether temporarily or permanently. Also simply that they liked, rated and sympathised with him, especially in the light of his personal circumstances.

Then when it came to appointing Ward, she either dug in her heels on who she worked with, and/or the bill was working out too high for the FAI to keep Healy on, meaning the FAI chose to go back on its word to Healy, rather than lose her. If so, that stinks.

Bradley's gone on the rampage again, this time over the Colin Healy situation. I'd certainly have more sympathy for his views on this than on his Hallgrimsson stuff, but a bit naive all the same trying to use his programme notes for the Aviva game to go taking shots at the FAI. Not sure that was the time or the place for it either, he has plenty of other opportunities to air his views.

Clearly plenty of dislike for Canham still out there, and Sadlier suggesting that's there's more information yet to emerge about him. Still can't believe he managed to get himself a promotion last year when he should have been fired, but looks like there may be even more that we don't know.

It takes the focus off his team and on him. It's the main reason for his go at Hallgrinssom. If Rovers had beaten Bohs he likely wouldn't have brought up those comments by Hallgrinssom after the match.
