Murphy completes Galway return
Striker Alan Murphy has completed a return move to First Division
Galway United from eircom League Premier Division runners-up Derry
City.
Mayo native Murphy joined Derry from Galway in a €22,000 move at
the start of the 2004 season
However, he was unable to hold down a regular starting place in the
Candystripes’ breakthrough season this year, when his substitute
appearances were more often in midfield as in attack.
The 24-year-old was the First Division’s top scorer with Galway in
2003, firing 21 league goals in a side which struggled to make any
real impact on the promotion race.
And the Tribesmen will hope he can regain that level of form back
at Terryland Park next season.
Galway United is pleased to announce that Alan Murphy has agreed terms and will be signing for the club, the former Galway United crowd favorite has spent the past two seasons with Derry City.
Ballinrobe-native Murphy (24) is a former Player of the Year with Galway United and was the club's top goalscorer in the last three seasons he was with us before he transferred to Derry City.
According to Galway United Chairman, John Fallon, Murphy is one of a number of players that they hope to sign for next season.
"Next season will be the most important in the club's history. We finished the last campaign unbeaten in our last eight games, but we need to strengthen the squad to achieve our aims for next season.
"Alan is a big addition to our side and we are delighted that he has decided to come on board for what promises to be a great season next year," he said.
Galway United manager, Stephen Lally, said a lot of work has already been done for next season.
"We knew that Derry City did not want to lose him and that several other clubs were keen to sign him.
"We sat down with him and outlined the ambitions this club has, the work we have done and what we think we can achieve next year. I am delighted he will be back in a Galway United shirt next season.
"He is an accomplished midfielder or striker and will bring a lot to our side next season. I am delighted for the fans as well as Alan was always a big favorite with them," said Lally.

We are Massive!
Really big club really big
Every club in the eircom League should have one - it's the only way to stop the drain of players to England. And potentially both a source of players for the future and income from future transfers when a top class player comes through the ranks.Quote:

wise words
The signing of Ciaran Foley is certainly not confirmed as we speak.
According to sligo supprters both Ciaran FOley and Ryan O'Donnell have signed for us? They say they got this info from the players themselves??
If so I will be delighted to have ryan on board, excellent player:D , But Foley? the lad just roughs everybody up (a tony mannion player) but has very little football skills.:(
hey terry what position does ryan o donnell play, its looking for good for Utd now. Still have alot of work to do if we are to get promoted next season though.
As far as i know, he's a Defender GalwayexileQuote:

He plays like Makelele at Chelsea.Breaks up attacks and gets the ball moving.
I think the best out of the players were in talks with is Stephie Gavin. He seems to be rated very highly by the Athlone boys.
When he is fit he owns the wing. Super player hopefully we can keep him.Quote:

Plus, to late! he and foley have offically signed.:)
Do you think United should put a bid in for any of these
players that were 'let go' by Shamrock Rovers recently:
Keith Doyle,
Kieran Foley,
Willo McDonagh,
Gavin McDonnell,
Keith O’Halloran
Or these from Athlone Town::
Andy Noonan,
Gavin Doyle
I didn't know ye were that stuck for players.Quote:

Moran, Lavine stay put in Galway
Galway United have confirmed that strike pairing Barry Moran and
Eric Lavine will be staying at the club for next season.
Speculation had been growing that either one of 2005’s first-choice
strike pairing would quit the club following the acquisition of Alan
Murphy from Derry City.
However, manager Stephen Lally has revealed that Moran and Lavine
– who scored 16 goals between them in the season just ended – will
be staying at Terryland Park.
He told the Irish Sun: “We are putting together an exciting side and
Barry and Eric will be central to our plans.”
Apparently signed which is great news . Ciaran Foley and Stevie Gavin have signed which makes the squad significantly stronger.Key Position is a strong tough midfielder there is one back in Galway but seemingly his expectations are a bit high.
lads your looking well for next year already.think ye are worth a flutter just with the players ye got so far
O'Donnell has already signed for Dublin.Quote:

I thought Foley had signed already??
who is the midfielder currently in Galway that GUFCT mentioned?
It was never posted on the official site that Foley had signed, was not in the CT on Friday either.
I presume that gufct is talking about Fran Carter.
When a player is officially signed, GUFC will post on our website and inform the media. Until then, any rumours are mere conjecture.

Fran Carter has not signed for GUFC. Both parties have had talks with a view to the Newcastle man re-joining the club.
foley will be a good signing for ye.his work rate is unbelievable.i think stephen o donnell would be a great player for ye but id say he'll go to harps.carlos alvarez will be available soon as well....i don't think he's getting a new contract here.anyway ye seem to be putting a strong side together and best of luck for next season.
cheers roversforever, the team seems to be shaping up nicely alrite.Quote:

we wont be relegated that fast surely!!!!
seriously though,ye have made 2 great signings in Foley and O'Donnell.
Steven O'Donnell would be one of yer best players if he signed, but dont think Alverez will be on his way to Galway,he is gone back to south america.
