Really dissapointed that it did not happen at home.:( However, in Counties Louth, Down and Antrim, I heard that it was a spectacular lightning show all night last night and there were 1,000 strikes recorded from the storm. :D I heard that there was some very good footage taken in Lisburn.Quote:

I'd back up that one Adam. Lying in my tent dying for a p**s waiting for the storm to disipate until finally I had to open the zip and hope for the best. Unforgetable!
Anybody check out the front page of the Daily Telegraph and the Daily Express yesterday? Class lightning picture taken over Eastbourne in Sussex!!:p :D
There was a better picture in the Daily Mail of HMS Victory in Portsmouth and spectacular lightning in the background!! Pretty cool!!:DQuote:

Thursday afternoon was a thunderstorm classic in Repton, Derbyshire while the Mayo Schoolboy Academy side were playing Derby County. The thunder started to rumble in the first half and as it got nearer, it was constant claps and rumbles. First flash of lightning was observed at half time when we were giving the half time team talk. The thunder grew louder in the second half and about ten minutes in there was this tremendous bolt of fork lightning, and I shouted "Wow-Wee" followed by a clap of thunder. Moments later came the next bolt and the game got abandoned. One stupid wag started to shelter underneath a bush. We got our stuff and ran for the house. As we were running alongside the tennis court, it got hit by a bolt; just as well I told the kids to keep away from the trees and the rain started to cascade down. There was one particular incident when the lightning and the (very loud, explosive) thunder came together. Each bolt of lightning was greeted with a cheer. Word came through that a house was hit by lightning close to us and falling masonary flattened a car:eek:. That thunderstorm was my worst experienced outside of Ireland and the second worst after the Aughrim Street storm in 1990. Went to Burton on Trent in the evening and there was some lightning again. Passing through Stoke on Trent yesterday morning, the bus lit up with the lightning and there was this almighty bang of thunder. That was not the end of it, back on Irish soil, there was lightning in North Kildare/South Meath last night. Cool stuff!!:p
T-12:D
Had a bit of thunder and a bit of lightning yesterday evening. Apparently, a lady got some lightning pics, so it would be interesting to see.
If you are looking for some lightning fun, then check this out!!:p :D

We enjoyed some thunder on Sunday December 3rd, Friday 29th December in Liverpool, a right display of thunder on Saturday 20th January and again on Thursday 15th February.
There was some thunder on the 11th June that I missed but yesterday evening, I enjoyed watching a downpour and the lightning lit up the main street with a rap of thunder a second later. Today, the rumblers were at it again and it was a nasty sounding rap of thunder. It doesn't thunder for 40 days if there is a thunderstorm on St Swithin's Day, does it?:D
I heard a tremendous lightening strike last night which shook my house, apparently it hit a house about 3/4 of a mile away and blew the tiles off the roof, it sounded louder to me than the one in the first video, I could feel the house shake. God alone knows what it was like for the owner of the house who was inside at the time. Apparently he was "badly shaken up" - I bet he was :D
Awful thunder in Sligo this afternoon.
Loudest thunderclap ever, about an hour ago, I was in Kildare Street, Dublin city centre. Lightning flash looked like it was right outside the window and thunder was deafining. Cool. :)
I was walking along Pearse St when I heard a very loud thunderclap, quickly followed by lightning, was cool.
Best I remember was the day I got married, at some point during the mass there was a loud clap of thunder which seemed to be right above the church roof, the priest stalled for a second and someone shouted 'Run, the Lord has spoken'. That was in October 2002
Myself and a colleague were driving up to Galway yesterday afternoon when we spotted what can only be described as a tornado !! Dark grey cloudy sky with a full on funnel coming down to the ground, and this thing was not small. Dont know how long it was there before we noticed it but it withdrew back into the clouds within a few minutes after that. Never seen anything like it, didnt think we would get that sort of thing here. Has anyone else seen it or something similar ?
A mini tornado was reported in Rossmore, near Clonakilty in West Cork, last week.
They're more common in the midlands & have caused structural damage in recent years.
A nice thunderstorm passed over the Athlone Town Vs. Kildare County match on Saturday night. There were some very cool forks of lighning, but it played havoc with the stadium alarm system - setting off an automated evacuation message, but advising people not to use the lifts! :D
Encountered some thunder in Repton on 15th August and in Westport on the early hours of the 20th August-nothing major.
However, on the 12th October, there was a classic thunderstorm on Aegina Island, Greece. There was red fork lightning darting into the Aegean sea before the thunder started. Once the storm hit the town, the sky turned into dusk and the lightning was bolting from different angles and the thunder was earth-shaking. The yachts were still coming in and out of the harbour and yet a local got a right fright from the thunder and I found that funny!!:D The thunder lasted ninety minutes while the rain lasted 30 mins. I was eating out in the storm and only moved inside the taverna when the rain started to come through the canopy. The most annoying thing was that it was the only day of my hols that I did not take the camcorder with me.:(
The following evening, my flight out of Athens was delayed due to thunderstorm activity at the airport.
i was living in texas a couple of years ago...the storms were breathtaking. Once sept oct and some of november rolled around they were continuous enough. fork lightning was crazy and the noise deafening. went up to oklahoma and it was twice as bad, they have some very freaaky weather.
a few of our games had to be abandoned due to downpours of rain.flashfloods would also flood up the highway and about an hour later theyd b bone dry. theres alot to be said for our "shi*ty weather":D
I was awoken at 11:55 by a rap of thunder this morning to welcome me into December. There was more thunder from 5:45 until 6:10 this evening with the power put out, the first power cut from a thunderstorm I encountered since 1992. The electricity was out for an hour as ESB crews were out to restore power to the town.
Check out this thunderstorm from Limerick!!

Sit back, relax and enjoy!!:D:D:D
First thunderstorm of 2008 observed today. It was a great start today as I got up at 7:30 to a sheet lightning show. There was no thunder or rain and I got my mobile phone to record a bit of lightning. I thought that I may have been unlucky until I played it back and realised that I caught a flash. I was chuffed as it was the first time that I ever got lightning directly on camera!!:D There was thunder at 10:50, three raps and lightning with a mixed rain-hail shower. There was lightning again at midday; no thunder though. However, Juan Pablo might confirm this, I was led to believe that there was some spectacular lightning in the Ballinrobe/Tourmakeady area with 5/6 CG strikes coming down simultaneously, which would have been class lightning photography and, apparently, there was disruption to electricity and telephone supplies in Ballina because of lightning.
Thunder was observed on Monday 2nd March at 11:25am; that morning a house in the Erris region was struck by lightning.
Thunder was observed again on Tuesday 10th March. I didn't hear it though.
The main thunderstorm tragedy of the year happened in Dublin when a teenager was killed by lightning recently.
Jacksonville, Florida on June 26th.......yowza! Home, sweet home:D. There you go now Thunderblaster.

I got caught in thunder in Liverpool on Sunday 4th May at 9:00 and 6:15 that day. Thunder was reported in Westport on Sunday 2nd June. I believe that there was a class thunderstorm in Galway on the 21st June and I read that there were nine cows killed by lightning in Co. Leitrim on Friday.
There was a small rumble of thunder to our south east last night when Westport United were playing Castlebar Celtic.
