Strange one that - wouldn't doubt you at all, but seems at best a sideways move, unless Dunne was bought as a direct replacement?

Chris Collopy's arrival on the coaching staff confirmed on Radio Kerry's lunchtime sports news today.
No surprise that a trialist is starting in goals tonight, no fewer than one of six in tonight's squad:

We learn from the Kerryman today that Derek O'Shea and Shane Guthrie are also gone from the backroom staff - the status of Andy Spain and Ethan Kos remains unclear, but Conor McCarthy is hopeful that they'll both decide to stay on, while admitting he's actively looking for a new first-choice goalkeeper.

"For James, we hope to help him achieve the required coaching badges to manage at the League of Ireland level." - what's the story here?

Goalkeeper Connal Doran has signed for the 2025 season. Hopefully a good signing. Tomorrow, Friday, will tell a lot if he starts.
He is 6’4” I believe. Along with a taller center back pairing, I’m hoping at least 10 less goals conceded from set pieces this season. Definitely an improvement like that could be worth 10-15 more points (assuming no fall backs elsewhere of course).
A very good signing! He looked very assured in Killarney and is a good physical presence! I’d imagine the club are still looking to add another GK as we only have x2 right now with young Foley.
With 4 weeks to go, I think another 4-6 players incoming would create that deeper squad to cope with injuries.
We still need a really good winger, attacking mid and a decent CB!
That Chris McQueen looks like he could be a standout defender for us but Friday will be a better guage!
Ethan Kos is reportedly sorting out his visa now, but plans to stay in Kerry once that's completed.
With the friendly lined up with Shamrock Rovers and the CEO's connections with Rovers from his playing days, might see a loan player or two being drafted in.
No idea what to expect from the player. I think he made the one substitution appearance for Drogheda against Shelbourne in 2022.Quote:

A busy day for the club, with former Grimsby and Dundalk player Joe Adams also signing today:

https://www.transfermarkt.com/joe-ad...spieler/547045
An attacking midfielder according to Transfer Markt. This part of the club's piece is what interests me: "34 appearances for Dundalk FC during the 2022 SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division season."
Yes, looking at FAI Connect, seems to have been a first-team regular for them that season before leaving.
I seem to remember Adams being a decent PD player with potentially to play at a higher level when he was at Dundalk a couple years ago. Seems on the face if it that it should be a great signing for a first division club.
Abel Alabi is the club's eighth signing of the window - seems to have had a rather peripatetic career so far, to put it mildly!

Who knows what all these signings are like, Brookwell and Dunne have both played at the top of end of this division, while Adam’s must be decent if he played 30+ games in PD for Dundalk back in 2022. The others though have mostly played a few non league games (even below English national league), 4th tier of Scotland, US college system and 2nd tier of Norway - none of which would be much higher standard than FD LoI.
Also, based on the number of center halves we now have, perhaps management is looking at a back 3 with wing backs as preferred formation. It would certainly suit Dunne and O’Connell as more attack minded full backs, Gleason can also slot in and Stanic-Floody is a left sided defender / midfielder so he could presumably slot in there also. We haven’t signed a new out and out winger either.
Just a thought!!
Kevin Williams back from Malta? That would be huge. Strong squad coming together numbers wise. As Zico said it all comes down to the ability of these new signings
Presuming he will be the first choice based on recent experience.Quote:

Regardless of the ability of some of the new signings, there is definitely going to be a lot more competition for places which can only be a good thing. Last season the first 11 was picking itself most of the time, in a 40 game season having squad depth is huge - everyone is kept on edge.
The new guys must be decent though given I assume they are all getting a reasonable part-time wage as well as housing etc? In itself that too can cause friction with the local lads - who may not be on the same money!! All fine as long as everyone is pulling their weight.
Can’t wait to see the team sheet next Wednesday in friendly against cork - suspect the first half of that game might be a strong indication of starting team for Harps 10 days later.
The rumours were true! I'll be classifying this as a re-signing.Quote:

Based on what I have seen so far, I still think we need an experienced winger or another #9. Looks like we are covered everywhere else!

This is the current list I have. 11 re-signings including Kevin Williams, 9 new signings and 1 academy graduate.
With the new signings in the off season, I wonder would the club at this early stage be tempted by entering a second team in the mooted National League. A second team can be completely amateur and made up of all local players who've come through the youth teams. For a club with the intention of a pathway for local talent, it would seem a positive choice if the the costs are reasonably manageable.
A certain proportion of overage players can still play in the U20 League, so one suspects that'll be the approach that'll continue to be prioritised, at least pending confirmation as to whether the third tier goes ahead as scheduled.
Ah yeah, the u20 approach is definitely the way forward at the moment. Long term I would like to see the club committed to a second team. It'll be good messaging from the club on the commitment to local talent. I think Limerick and Finn Harps were proactive like that in the A Championship though they were in the First Division.

I know there's a big squad list. This is the list from all published articles by Kerry FC. Carl Mujaguzi and Mathyas Randriamamy bring the number of new signings to 11. 11 re-signings and 1 academy graduate announced.
Like all the other overseas signings, no idea what to expect. Hopefully he can contribute goals if called upon in the absence of RK.Quote:

Stanic Floody gone as well i heard. Seen nothing official though. The first ten minutes in Bray was the end for him.
Overseas signings are going to be more hit or miss if they haven't any pedigree in the league. McQueen has been the best success.
