I think ideally what is now known as the 2nd round should be played either around now, or even two weeks later at the start of August.
The problem with having it in August is that the whole competition becomes really condensed, as happened in 2019.
1st round was weekend 11th August
2nd round w/e 25th August
QFs w/e 9th September
SFs w/e 30th September
I remember this really disrupted the league that season.
Anyone know when the second round draw is on?
I can feel a Rovers Vs Bohs cup final coming this year, for some reason.
I think the last few years have shown that you don't have to be the best team in the league to get to the cup final,as the better teams drawing each other through the competition narrows the chances of that happening.
Draw for the next round of the cup is the 6th of June.
Where are the 'Leeds' above based ? And do they play in all white?
Carrick Rangers were mentioned on an earlier post, I never realised they won the cup up North as a NL club.

Home Farm of course won the 1975 FAI Cup, they were LOI then, but still considered junior club, saw this earlier, must have been the semi final v Pats, some crowd at it.

Thanks for this. I've just checked and Carrick actually got through to the second round of the European Cup Winners Cup, the following season. A kind draw for the first round saw them beat Aris (Luxembourg) 4-3 on aggregate (H 3-1, A 1-2), before meeting Southampton in the second round and losing 9-3 on aggregate (H 2-5, A 1-4)
Home Farm got a much tougher ECWC draw vs Lens the following season, but got a great 1-1 draw at home, before going down 6-0 in France.
Given how poor some of the teams in the First Division are this season (my own Included) it will be interesting to see how the "we could mix it" brigade get on. LOI v non league record in recent years is appalling no matter what excuses are offered up by the big fish in small pond followers.
Over the past 5 FAI Cup seasons, non-league clubs have one win (Maynooth v Cobh in 2021) , zero draws and 43 defeats against LOI sides
I'd be worried about us v a non league team tbh. Maynooth outplayed us in LSC
Wouldn't read too much into the LSC - pre-season friendlies for the LoI sides against clubs well into their seasons. If that has an impact on non-league's record in the FAI Cup, it'll also have an impact on the LSC
Boez vs Rovers in the cup ...
Drogheda v Dundalk
Derry v Pats the other stand out ties,we got a rubbish draw down near France so to hell with the cup anyway!
I am fed up with this season.
Happy with that Shels draw to Bray albeit away at the Carlisle Grounds, with at least 3 of Bohs/Rovers/Derry/Pats/Drogheda/Dundalk getting knocked out in the 2nd round it improves the odds of a potential path to the final same thoughts will be for Galway, Sligo and Waterford
Rotten for Harps. Away to Cork twice in a week and another away trip to Treaty directly after.
That'll be good craic! Bus company putting up plenty of mileage on the team bus, and no overnight stays in it!
Last 4 teams to be drawn out of the hat, Cobh, Kerry, Derry & Pats. The first two are the only LOI grounds I’ve never been in and would love to draw, nice bit of taunting there by the luck of the draw.
Cockhill Celtic will also have a long journey from Donegal to Waterford for their game. 3 all Premier ties and a few all non league ties too so opens up chances of a good cup run for a lot of teams.
I totally forgot the FAI cup 2nd round fixtures are on weekend ending July 21st sandwiched right between the 1st and 2nd round of the Europeans qualifiers if teams make it through, those tough FAI Cup draws for Rovers/Derry/Pats will mean they can't afford to rest too many if any players and I don't think Duff would risk too much rotation even against a rubbish Bray team
