Drogs 1-1 Derry. Typical friendly, more about giving players a stretch of the legs and lots of subs. In saying that, I really enjoyed getting back to a game and I am very happy with the potential of the signings by Kevin Doherty. I do think our back line still needs some strengthening/depth but overall I actually think we are stronger than last season as a squad.
Also a very decent crowd for a friendly - shows great interest in the town for the forthcoming season.
Treaty 0-2 Harps ,Mahdy off the mark for us..
According to Harps Twitter Ray Mysterio scored for them.
He’ll like Finn Park’s facilities being part of the Filthy Animals.
Bohs 4-0 up against Dundalk at half time.
O’Donnell out.
Be gas if SOD was sacked by Dundalk while still being sued by Kelliher for leaving Pats
With the speed of the Irish legal system he will probably need to survive a full season to avoid that happening.
5-0 now. It's in Oriel too - and Bohs were a side you were kind of wondering where the goals would come from this year with Kelly gone.
Only a friendly though, as any Pat's fan will point out. :p
Told you all that it was Alan Mathews pulling the strings the whole time.
Pats won the pre season last year were second in the league won the cup and are winning pre season again.......
Its Pats league to lose from here
Bring back the Italian fellas.
Random is a very charitable adjective there D24!
ha ha ....Good man Stephen O'Donnell. Fantastic stuff.
Very very amusing result, albeit only a friendly I suppose we have to say.
Bohs have lost a load of players but still showed up, which is more than can be said for a strong-is looking dundalk side.
Is their new keeper another abibi methinks..
Went to the Galway v Shelbourne friendly game at the weekend. Saturday night 6pm KO and a good few at it, 500 plus my estimate. I think Galway should switch home games rather than have them on Friday as been the case for long while. It would suit the younger demographic(school going age) and visiting fans who may like to make an overnight trip. Nice style of play from Shelbourne which should attract some new followers to Tolka this year. Great to have the LoI back.
Just on the above, do any Galway fans on here know if the friendly against Pats this Friday night will be open to the public as the Shels one was last weekend?
This more like it!
We've been schooled by Drogheda early season never mind preseason in the past and did ok. I'd rather a good chastening result than coast through preseason and get found out when the league kicks off. Could loosen the purse strings if there is a glaring weakness in the squad. Little bit concerned on the right fullback position for one. Pace at the back could still be an issue. I'd say a few of the lads that have come in from abroad are thinking hard about the intensity of LoI, where there is quality mixed in with the frantic tempo. Very different from the lower levels in England or U23 leagues. I'd be first in line to be panicky but not just yet!!
Derry City 5-0 Institute in the Brandywell last night.
Goalscorers
Louis Britton (trialist)
Mickey Duffy
Will Patching
Caoimhin Porter x2
Seem to be good crowds at various friendlies around the country at the moment, which is encouraging for the new season.
Estimated 1,300 at the Brandywell last night. It was Institutes home game and they don't normally open the Southend stand but before ko the Mark Farren stand was full so they hastily had to open the Southend stand. Probably the biggest attendance at this annual fixture in my memory.
Galway 2 - 0 Pat's yesterday.
0-0 at half time. Rowe and Adayemo in second half. Pat's played 22 players, having started with a strong selection.
Can't even remember the last time we lost a pre-season game. Clancy out.
Shels 5-2 UCD today. Was 2-2 at half-time. No idea what sort of team we put out (or if there were changes, etc). Shels had a trialist in their starting XI so they were experimenting a bit too.
I think both UCD and Shels play again later so guessing two different sets of teams with mixtures in both teams of starting XI, fringe players and the odd trialists
3 friendly wins out of 3 for Duff promising start despite scepticism around over the strength of our squad
Earlier today the friendly in the RSC ran out; Waterford 2-1 Dundalk
Cork 1 Harps 1 at Abbotstown,Tourish for Harps ,Murphy for Cork.
Never nice to lose games. The fact is that friendlies are just training games to work on shape, fitness & experiment with players in various roles. The competitive edge of a proper match can’t be replicated. The score card for new managers such as Clancy , Duff & your man in charge of Dundalk won’t be in until the end of the first series of games.
We got battered 5-1 by Derry City at home. Returning striker Sam Verdon with the consolation! Cronin out!
