Should the merger reach a conclusion, the FAI will seek to fill the vacancy in the First Division?
Rumour that the FAI are also exploring a proposal to introduce a third tier.
And who would they like to apply anyone!

The English are an exception to the rule. There are only 3 clubs in the 92 team Football league which aren't named after a place (it was 2 until quite recently). That's fewer than the 10-team LOI Premier Division, where 4 clubs are not named after a place, and fewer again than the Irish league's top tier, where it's 5 of the 12 teams.
Contrast England with Scotland - where 5 of its 12 Top tier teams, 7 of the 22 teams in the top 2 tiers, and 8 in total across the 42 team Scottish league are not named after places. A pretty high proportion. Or the Irish league, where 9 of the 36 teams in its top 3 tiers are not named after places. Higher still.
In short - The English have an unusually low number of football teams not named after actual places.
Does this mean that Rovers B will be taken off the shelf by the FAI to pad out the FD ?
Get Irish Sea FC in or we Riot
I wish them well, but I can't help wonder, looking at the headline on the presser, if there shouldn't be an 'a' somewhere in 'new force'.
It's a Cabinteely takeover of Bray in all but name. Bad day for the league
Feel sorry for all the underage LOI teams 14s,15,17s etc as half of the players are being ditched now with joint training sessions to decide who to keep.
They all had assumed they would be back in Jan for pre season with their own clubs.
That's football though i suppose , an early lesson.
Cab Wanderers FC, any choice for a name? Might be a bit strange cheering Caaaab, Caaaab, Caaaaaaaaaaaa! :call:
Maybe Pat O'Sullivan will try and get Limerick FC back into the First Division again!
Did'nt they participate in the Airtricity Legues at U14/15 & 17's in 2021?
Is the Carlisle Grounds to be sold now ? Or is it be the home venue for the new club.
Ca..Bra
Might not go down well on the Southside :)
Always messy a merger. Who gains the place name of the club essentially inherits the club. If they called it Cabinteely Wanderers then Bray are all but gone.
I've no time for Bray, and plenty of it for Cabo, can't help but think this is a smart move by Bray, and a daft move by Cabinteely. Depends on what the name will end up being I guess.
Whoever is in charge of the finances in Bray will be delighted with all those underage subscriptions coming in to boost the coffers. Shrewd move - Cabo the biggest schoolboy club in the country?
I thought St Joesphs had a slice of Bray.
So a free spot in the First Division, can it be filled by mid-February?, tight enough timescale which is often the case in the LoI. Losing the clubhouse facility at Blackrock rugby is a drawback I think, so hopefully their might be plans to improve the (legendry) Carlisle Ground, which really has great potential as soccer stadium. Wishing the new club well, be interesting if they can capture any level of support in the Dun Laoghaire area.
Id say they will keep the Bray name in it somewhere if only to keep the paying punters coming through the gates.
Cabinteely sold the LOI section of the club to Richardson (the new Chairman of the merged entity) only in the last few months for a pittance as it was costing them money and the priority in Cabo has always been the Community teams not just the Elite.
Makes sense to try to keep the Bray supporters and their cash on side so i expect a Bray/Cabo first year name , give people time to get used to the idea and then rebrand as Dublin South FC or something like that
Re my above post the Junior club sold off the LOI part to avoid exactly that scenerio of the junior Subs paying wages for LOI.
Re being a "daft move by Cabo" its more a move by the guy who bought the LOI section out the new Chairman , the biggest part of the club the junior club with 1000 ish players has no role in the merger.
They'very little space to work with tbh. The tent end is right up against the road. The opposite side is right up against DART land. Removing the hill from behind the town end goal has created some space, but not a lot. And I guess the pitch behind the other end is used in training, in which case you can't build on it. There's also a car park which makes money, so not much point removing that really.
There's not really room at any side for a proper covered stand (bearing in mind a proper roof would need bigger supports which would take seating space away)
Is there any sites for a stadium in the dun laoghaire rathdown county council area. They might want a pet project like SDCC with Tallaght stadium.
They don't need to do a whole lot with Carlisle Grounds anyway. It's far from the worst ground in the league. Half decent toilet blocks, and some form of a roof on the open side and they're grand with what they have.
One of the best locations for a ground in the entire league.
I always thought it was a missed opportunity by Cabo to not include some reference to the borough of Dun Laoghaire in their name. Over 200K people live in the borough so they should really be trying to tap into that if they've any sense. They could have named themselves Cabinteely Borough FC or something similar. Most other clubs could only dream of having such a population on their doorstep. Maybe they'll use the merger as a way to expand their base. Anybody for...
Borough Wanderers FC ?
Borough & Bray Wanderers ?
In the spirit of clubs like Brighton and Hove Albion, I'd expect something like Bray and Cabinteely Wanderers.
So I'm not clear on what this means exactly but assuming that Bray are the surviving club that means Cabinteely leave the league with an unbeaten record against Cork City.
As ever, a shining light in the fog Sbgawa.
So Cabinteely, the biggest schoolboy club in the country, sell off the loss-making "Cabinteely Senior FC" (I assume 'Cabo' remain 'Cabo' in schoolboys/girls football?) who in turn buy out Bray and 'merge'. So there's likely going to be a name change - which will probably annoy a few Bray loyalists given the lack of consultation with the fans - and there's no schoolboy revenue coming in from the cabinteely side of the merge (and no fans either but that's taken as given).
Maybe the finance person at Bray isn't as clever as I made out earlier.
If your man from Cabo is now the majority shareholder, is Devlin the only other remaining shareholder?
BC Wanderers.
Can Cabinteely and Bray agree that the Dublin mountains are not mountains but hills?! The North Wicklow area going over the border into Dublin is a nice part of the country to be fair.
On the football side of things, is there a realistic contender outside of a Shamrock Rovers II to take up the position available in the First Division? Ideally any new club joining the league will already being showing an expression of interest on the park through the youth leagues. The youth leagues should be the pathway for those with LoI ambitions.
Would imagine the FAI would welcome a Kerry DL team, if they ever did decide to go senior, the problem being that the junior season runs Sep-May, so the likes of Killarney Celtic, Castleisland and Listowel would be reluctant to contribute players as a consequence.
Metro Wanderers FC? Dublin Bay FC?
I'd put money on the club changing it's name back to Bray in a few years, it's not like the Cabo ultras will riot if they don't get their representation
I think an intermediary league between the youth leagues and League of Ireland is the solution to allow reserve LoI teams and non LoI entities to compete. That would be a good level for a Kerry DL team.
I don't think any club in Kerry is prepared to enter the league. An intermediary league can afford non LoI entities the possibility of forming a club if that becomes their natural evolution over time.
How's the hangover Stu?
