Surprised at Brighton not getting it done on time though as they've been chasing him all summer.
Liked with West Ham, Burnley, and Sheffield United this morning

Scores one and assists another as Derby come from 2-1 down to lead Oxford 3-2 late on. Would be their ninth win in 11 games if they hold on, so may be going up a division next year even if the transfer speculation doesn't come off. Seems to have been playing really well this season, though obviously Championship would be a step up, as would most international stuff.
Derby County have activated a clause in Cashin's contract to keep him at the club until mid-2025 and consider him as not for sale. One could say they won't cash in on his estimated market value. (Sorry :-) ) With his former manager Wayne Rooney no longer at Birmingham, that's one potential destination gone.

Cashin reflects on 'the move that got away' at the end of the recent transfer window. Will Brighton come knocking again in July?

Didn't know he signed a new three year contract last month. Hopefully he got a release clause added into the contract.
Makes the League One team of the season, alongside Portsmouth's Conor Shaughnessy.
Seems one thing we're definitely not short of is promising centre-backs anyway. Both look like being Championship players next season.
Centre-backs-r-us.
If international teams could loan Centre-backs ? !
Went off injured 20mins into today's game with a possible head injury. Was down for a bit getting treatment but was able to walk off the pitch.
I saw him against Blackburn and he looked like he has bulked up. Hel seemed a bit sluggish to be honest. He has impressed me previously.
Cashin will miss Derby's next two games, because of the concussion protocol.
Paul Warne confirms double Derby County injury blow as duo to miss Watford clash - Derbyshire Live (derbytelegraph.co.uk)
Appears to be adapting to the Championship well with a goal and clean sheet last night in the 4-0 win over Portsmouth.
Flying under the radar for us slightly with our relative abundance of talent in the position, however Brighton’s interest appears to be continuing, which a hamstring injury yesterday might ward off in this window.
Only just 22 and made Captain after 140+ senior appearances with fans gushing with praise lately - certainly worth a closer look in upcoming squads…

Was a very good header for his goal. He looks a really decent player, only slight mark against him is that he's an inch or two shorter than our other centre back options. But I don't think he's that short that he can't play international football or anything like that, as long as the rest of his game is good enough.
Derby had some interesting set piece routines last night. Harness played well also.
Canavarro is only 5'9 and is one of the all-time greats.
Can't be that far away from a call-up now.
Obviously a well-run club like Brighton showing interest doesn't happen for no reason, and the fact that he's left-footed plays in his favour, you would think.
18 months on form their last attempt, Brighton are reported to be back in for Cashin. Would be a great opportunity for him.
How have we not capped this guy at senior level yet?
We've only had a handful of games since he stepped up to Championship football, and we're crowded in his position. I'm sure they're looking at him anyway.
I'm no authority on him and have only seen him a handful of times but he hasn't ever overly impressed me. He also just seems too short and a bit too stocky for a CB. But if Brighton are in for him, I'm happy to be totally in the wrong!
Yeah, I find it interesting that Brighton, of all teams, seem to be repeatedly interested in him. We know their algorithm is good at spotting hidden gems that other teams overlook, similar to what Brentford do, allowing both clubs to punch well above their weight.
But on the face of it I'd love to know what it is about Cashin that has convinced them he's Premier League material. He's a tough, committed, hard working centre back, but he's not the tallest and not the quickest out there by a stretch. There must be something they're seeing that makes him more of interest to them than the likes of Mark McGuinness, Andrew Omobamidele or Dara O'Shea, who have all transferred from Championship clubs in the last couple of years. Presumably Cashin would be less expensive, but he would evidently also need to be better than someone like Omobamidele to get a game at an established EPL club like Brighton.
If Brighton are in for him, especially two years in a row, we're all missing something special. Their scouting track record is too good.
Because John Egan, Shane Duffy, Nathan Collins, Dara O'Shea, Liam Scales, Andrew Omobamidele, Jake O'Brien and Mark McGuinness... and he spent the last two seasons in League One.
Of course if he does go to Brighton and breaks through there, then yes, he becomes an option.
He wasn't in the Derby squad last night. Though that could have been for a number of reasons.
Since the last Brighton interest he has signed a new contract with Derby. Maybe there's a release clause in there, but if he hadn't signed it he would be in the last six months of his contract now and in a much stronger position to get his big move. Would have to question his decision to sign that contract if he doesn't get the move this month.
"Asked about the bid from Brighton and his fitness, Warne said: "He is good. He was walking around baptising kids at half-time. He is coming back from a tendon injury, so the chances of re-injury if he plays three times in a week is 30 to 40 per cent so it wasn't a risk that we were prepared to take. "He has trained today, he will train with the squad on Thursday and he will be included in my thoughts for the weekend [against Cardiff].
"It sounds more exciting if I said I pulled him out of the squad to drive him to Brighton tonight, but that isn't the case. It would be a good headline, but he will be available for the weekend. He is not re-injured or anything like that, it was precautionary." (Paul Warne, manager, 22 Jan).
"....the Rams are adamant that they are not selling the 23-year-old in the January transfer window, DerbyshireLive understands" (Derbyshire Live, 21 Jan).
He was doing what at half time??
I know -- I'm puzzled too. When Carlton Palmer told FLW today that Cashin is "very, very good player", I thought at first that he was referring to Eiran's football skills, but perhaps he was commenting on young Eiran's moral and spiritual values and activities.
Baffling comment from manager... unless it's a comeback/resurrection joke?
Baptising them into the club?
Maybe he has a side-line as a American Style Preacher on the side-line !
Maybe ~ He is a Son of a Preacher Man, like Dusty Springfield sang !
After going quiet for a few days, there seems to be reports in Derby that this transfer is back on as they need the cash to get a few players in before the transfer window closes.
Fee agreed between Derby and Brighton, according to Sky Sports News.
Transfer completed, fee of £9m, according to "sources". (BBC Football, 31 Jan).

Officially signed
Would assume that's a transfer record for an uncapped Irish player.
Cashin, Cannon and Jake O'Brien have now transferred for a total of about £45m yet have only five caps between them.
If Cashin starts playing EPL.games he'll presumably come into the Ireland squad, especially given he's a left footer. But how many centre backs can we realistically pick? Collins and O'Shea are certain, O'Brien and Omobamidele are likely to be in if they're playing regular top division football, and then there's Cashin. So that's five and you still have Scales and McGuinness, who both started our last game. And there's also Jimmy Dunne who is in great form as well, that's a lot of centre backs to accommodate. Poor Luke McNally hasn't a hope and it's not looking good for Duffy or Egan either. How's Darragh Lenihan's injury situation these days?
I think that's probably the only position he's really in contention for. Could Cashin be tried at left back in a flat back four maybe - could be an option against high level opposition in particular? If we do try the Collins stepping into midfield thing again we could be pioneers of the five centre backs on the pitch strategy.
It was good to see Cashin referencing his Ireland ambitions in his first Brighton interview anyway.
We are almost in Centre-half Nirvana ~ ~ Has it been this good since we could afford to play Paul McGrath in midfield, and some time before that Mark Lawrenson in midfield ? !
It probably has. It's good - but none of the options are playing at a really top level. It's a variety of functional players really. I'd take peak Richie Dunne over any of them for example. Though we have had a lot of functional players there down the years - O'Dea, St Ledger, McShane from our Euro 2012 squad alone.
It's good that we can afford to leave out some functional players - cos we have to start them in other areas.
But for example Scales is the only one playing in Europe - and even then he's lost his place in a side that probably wouldn't get into Europe if they were playing in England.
In fairness it did take Richard Dunne a while to get to his peak level ~ I actually remember some people that I know personally writing him off, in his earlier years ~ I could see something in him, if he got his act together, which he did ~ Thankfully, great to see a young man do so well.
Decent enough centre-backs if they can click as a, pair / three / system that suits them ~ And of course it would be a great bonus, if one of them could do a good job in midfield even if it was only in certain suitable games !
