I dont care who is in the studio as long as ALL the premier games are shown. And Roddy will be making an appearance this season.
Having said all that at least we have an EL programme after all the years of ignoring us from rtengland.
See yis in TA! :D

Was it just me or was Eircom League Weekly half-decent last night? The Bray Drogs game had all you could really ask for....build-up, team news, good highlights, good reporting from Des Curran (who seems to be the most knowledgeable of them), plenty of interviews and ok analysis. They showed the fans before the Derry game so as to create atmosphere and had a decent discussion after it about shels' squad a nd Glen Crowe....beats just talking through the goals. They showed 13 or 14 incidents from the Blues v Bohs game even if they still ignored us in the analysis to focus on the Dublin club. Highlights from two First Division games and Setanta Cup. On the down side, no camera at three Premier games. On the whole though, a step in the right direction.
They should extend it to one hour.
The Shamrock Rovers story that broke yesterday was only discussed for about 2 minutes and should have been given more time.
whats the song the Derry fans were singing about being Randy?
They all live in a randy brandywell, a randy brandywell, a randy brandywell...........................(Yellow submarine) Suprised me to... I was going to post exact same thing!!!!! ;)Quote:

Sligo game was introduced as being their biggest crowd of the season and yet the three-quarters of the ground shown were empty almost (I know the camera is on the same side as the big stand, but it just looked like their biggest crowd of the season was about 50 people - negative reinforcement and all that). I don't know why they can't at least slow down the analysis and show us something rather than talk over the goals again - silly. King and Scully obviously hadn't seen the games before and were just making things up on the spot - kept on saying how the highlights showed x were the better team.
I meant to call it Sligo weekly....when we were in the First Division they ignored it completely. Fair play to Sligo for sending in the footage EVERY week, at least they try to promote the image of the club. As for the other stuff, yeah we all agree that stuff is crap especially Laurel and Hardy, but last night was almost watchable.
By the way, Pineapple, will i have to get to Belfield early on Friday to get a seat? Expecting a sell-out with the masses of UCD fans turning up to see the table-toppers with your best two players of last season warming our bench?
Rubbish, highlights from two of the six premier games is ridiculous.
You signed Kenna? :eek:Quote:

They can't show Pats yet they can get cameras to Inchicore to see Dublin City player, what's going on there? I think Kinger and Scully are alright but the amount of premier matches they showed is an absolute disgrace, how can you not show a Cork home match when they're one of the title contenders ffs? Also King and scully should at least pretend they're not seing the footage for the first time, they've had a whole weekend to get a look at them and come up with some notes and outlines on things to say! But at least Scully seems to have loosened up a bit and is coming across better this year.
So Ny Hoop- what you're saying is that el weekly should refuse to show games from the first division, where the club involved has shown the initiative to go out and pay for a camera, unless all premier games are covered.
That hardly seems fair.
Maybe all premier teams who aren't going to be covered should be told in advance so that they can arrange a camera (or several cameras) themselves.
Perhaps even all league clubs should pay a fixed fee into a pool each week that would then be used to guarentee at least one camera at every league game. Could the the clubs co-operate and help themselves? Probably not, (and they shouldn't have to of course) but it certainly would make every club more attractive to sponsors and would raise the profile of the league. It would also mean less 'analysis' and more goals and real action on eL weekly.
Say it cost €600 per game (which would be conservative enough a figure I think)- thats just €300 per club for guarenteed TV time every single week.
Ah, it'll never work though.
The clubs shouldn't have to pay for TV3 to fulfill their agreement to put a highlights package of the EL on the air. A highlights package of the EL should show all matches in the premier division, any first division matches then are a bonus (And fair play to the clubs involved there).
The programme was poo the last night. Trying to drag out the affair when they only had highlights of 3 of 6 Premier games was excruciating, hence hte overdose of Kinger waffle, shots of Derry fans and the "decent" package from Bray. If they wanted to examine the ROver situation they should have at least had a wee report done up showing a few clips or interviews, simply turning to the 2 lads going "well, what do ya think about it boys?" is pathetic. I can get that kind of 'analysis' down the pub.
TV3 seem to have reduced their budget drastically this year despite the fact the overall TV deal with RTE/Setanta/TG4 guarantees them around 30 games filmed at no cost from which they can use the highlights they are sending less cameras to games. No cameras at 2 home games in Dublin last week or at Turners Cross. They are becoming too reliant on clubs sending in footage (which should be a bonus) and Harps will not be sending them any more till they sort themselves out and make some kind of commitment to cover a decent proportion of our games themselves.
The programme is slipping badly and it is totally down to them not commiting budget to it. I've always defended them for making an effort, but from what I see the effort is no longer there and they are filling time.

To be honest with you yeah. Did you see the "crowd" at inchicore for the galway game? That's embarrassing. Who benefits from looking at that? More people watching kids kicking around in my local green FFS.Quote:

There should have been a camera at our game and at inchicore and why wasnt the cork game shown? Ridiculous and scandalous.
Someone else mentioned that sligo have the camera in the wrong stand. Correct and this is also a problem for waterford, cork and derry but then that's another thread.
IF the programme was an hour long then the 6 premier and some first division games could be shown. There has to be some reason why they wont extend the show to an hour.

We sent in footage of at least one of our home games, as we have our own camera system but TV3 said they didn't want it. Then they don't bother sending cameras to games in fúckin Dublin, as far as i'm aware they've sent cameras (of their own) to Flancare maybe once or twice in the past two seasons, the only way we'd get shown was if we filmed the match and sent it in to them. That was costing €100 every time before we bought a camera system this season. Their coverage is a joke at this stage.
Hopefully when the contract for EL Weekly ends Setanta step in, they could get an hour show no problem, they're desperate for things to take up some time, all they show is repeats of live events from the previous few days most of the time as it is. They'd do a proper job on it too.
We supply the footage from the Showgrounds each week. TV3 is willing to show the highlights from any match if it is edited correctly for them. There is no reason other clubs can not take up our initiate, especially premier division clubs. It’s no point complaining about Sligo Rovers getting airtime, if your club sits on their asres and expects the cameras to attend to them.Quote:

It’s far from a first-rate programme on the Eircom League, but it’s the only thing we’ve got. It’s up to the clubs to promote their own grounds. So, instead of running down clubs who is trying to promote the game locally, you should take a leaf out of our book and do the same.
I thought that was funny when they said that it was Sligo's biggest crowd in ages and all you could see was roughly 7 people in the footage watching the match.
Clubs should have their cameras in positions that show a healthy crowd in the backround. This is the case in Cork anyway, the camera shows the smallest stand in the stadium with a load of houses in the backround. It looks terrible.
Houses in the background? We wish we had houses in the background.
You have to edit it as well for them?! If that's true, that's a disgrace! Sure they'll be asking for the commentary and a script for the pundits to read next... :rolleyes:Quote:

i sent in tv3 an email asking them to cover some of our games - they said they deffo will show the games but asked me if i minded transmitting the pictures for them - in broadcast format*
*may not have happened
I'm surprised they didn't ask you to source the ads for the breaks too.
What kind of a contract did they sign with the League? That's disgraceful that you have to edit it yourself. That station is a joke. That's why I didn't enter their Bulmers sports quiz....couldn't stick listening to Trevor Welsh for a few hours and they'd probably get the questions wrong anyway....at least you knew the Today FM football quiz last year would be run professionally.
Just an auld reminder for the people .... up you come big fella !!
11.25 - be there .... or you'll end up missing it like !! :p
Stick it on at 11.45 and then don't show all the games yet again, even when there were cameras there such as ours. Maybe we didn't edit it for them  ..We've been shown once in five weeks and that was the Setanta cup where they had access to another TV sations footage all nicely edited for them. Jokers. The sooner that show is replaced with somehing better by any station the better. Poor oul Harry McCue was a bit lost.
The fact remains .... this is all we have .... that and these "Live Games" .... how many have there been .... 2 ...... and there'll be about an extra 6 games shown or something stupid like that compared to last year.
The League have signed up to this !!
The League are happy to settle for this !!
The League wont be changing and time soon and you are telling them its OK by accepting it, so how can you blame them ??
That show was a new low.
Trevor's repetoire of questions is staggering. :D
Here's a pretty funny post from someone on boards.ie:
TV3 Bosses : OK everybody, we've been making the Eircom League Weekly a terrible spectacle over the past two years, but this week I want everybody involved to make an extra special effort to make it look crap.
Sports Team(ST) : How about we get Trevor Welch to present the show, hes the most boring presenter in world?
TV3 : Good thinking, but Trevor on his own could not make it as shoddy as I want it.
ST : How about getting amatuer cameramen?
TV3 : Now you're talking
ST : Wow this is easy. We could get Harry McCue to do the analysis, sure nobody would understand a word he's saying with his adenoids problem.
TV3 : Brilliant
ST : I think 11.25 is too early for it to be on, we should push back the timeslot 'till a quarter to twelve, lets really make sure nobody is watching it.
TV3 : Give this man a raise
ST : I was thinking that us producers should get drunk on Monday night and see if we can still manage to show the clips in the right order as a sort of test. I'll bet you 10 euro that I won't get the order of clips mixed up.
TV3 : Ill take that bet. Lads this is all gold.
ST : Sir, I think we should tell our reporters on the ground to conduct interviews with managers in the worst places possible.
TV3 : Give me an example
ST : Well sir, instead of doing the post match interviews where the clubs have a designated area, we could do them in cheaper places.
TV3 : You mean out on the pitch
ST : We can do worse than that sir. Thats the norm anyway(laughs out loud). I'm talking backrounds with brick walls covered in moss and rooms that look like a childrens classroom.
TV3 : Excellent. We'll be rid of those cursed rights yet.
New Guy in the Corner : But sir, the ratings have been suprisingly good all along despite our efforts to make it as **** as possible.
TV3 : You're all right kid.(laughs)
very good. :D
It wouldn't suprise me if its true.
Damn I forgot to watch it. Is it repeated at all? Were UCD on it this week?
No they didn't show UCD-Waterford or Town-Bray at all.
UCD game not on and i dont think they have repeats, [It'd probably be on at about 3am if there was-when most people are asleep]
Its amazing how a programme that lasts 40 mins cant show highlights of the small amount of league games that are played weekly in the Eircom prem & 1st.
Sure even UTV show all the highlights of the championship,1st & 2nd divisions in England.
Did anyone notice aswell on last nite's show that after the small highlights for Cork vs. Bohs, they couldnt even show Corks goals again when they tried. It skipped into highlights of the Drogheda vs. Rovers game. Pure Class !!! - technical difficulties..
Was @ both games and i'm so dissapointed. Thought i'd see myself :D :D . But seriously, tv3 are d*ickheads... Get a proper station to run it and with proper analysis. Sorry Harry McCue. And repeats @ 05.35 in the morning. Wat a joke!!! :mad:Quote:

I stood up for TV3 a little last week, but last night was one of the worst programmes I've ever seen of any type on any television station. Disastrous from start to finish. Nobody associated with that programme should have been able to sleep last night for the embarrassment.
They think Trevor is their star man, but he's easily the worst presenter they have....at least since they stopped pretending Aidan Cooney knew anything about sport. There were the usual irritatingly stupid comments...Trevor's "the weekend's only Dublin derby" (don't do it, fatso, you wouldn't like me when I'm angry  ) and King's "Bohs didn't strengthen in the summer" And poor Harry is just not made for TV even that long after the watershed.
They didn't know in the end whether they needed to fill time or hurry on. What's the rush? Did Harry The Ghoul have to get home before the sun came up? As for the content and technical production, there's just no point in wasting the time thinking about it. No wonder that fella who was sentenced last week for breaking into TV3 took a dump on the windowsill. He must've been an eircom League fan.
