Was never a fan of Russell ,but why appoint him if you are going to sack him after 6 games where, while it hasn been great neither has it been a complete disaster ,does not add up to me...too many captains advising the general by the looks of it.

I feel that this was a lot of it too, he didn't get a crack at the Prem last time due to off field funding issues so you could argue he was owed this chance, but clearly team building pre season did not go smoothly. As LITD says, some of the signings have the look of being of the more collaborative net casting variety and there was a real late flurry which looked a bit 'pick out the better trialist there & sign him'. I suppose this coupled with the manner of the goals being conceded made this inevitable, and in those circumstances better to get it over with so all can move on. Had he got the players he went for in pre season, it might have been different, particularly at CB but he didn't and now its time for the next era.
It would be nice if Kerr in particular were a bit more aware of the nuances of this situation, it's inaccurate to attack this as simply a sacking after six games while in eighth place. You get enough of that ill informed reactive coverage from the British game week in week out so you look to LOI coverage to amount to a more informed balanced one but Kerr failed in that.
Agree with you crafty. To me Kerr' comments felt like Limerick were awful to sack him but if another 10 games I and we were in a relegation dogfight he would be saying the club needed to react quicker considering 3 go down. Dammed if you do, dammed if you don't.
It looks like the club were waiting to pull the trigger as quickly as they could so I would hope they've someone lined up...but then again
And people should not concern themselves with Pat's "Get it up the field" that's his go to phrase and wasn't just reserved for Russell....although I love thinking back to the time where he told Sean Brosnan to get in the wall up in Jackman and he did....keeper, manager, chairman
The appointment of Willie Boland as intrem manager sounds like whoever was lined up, if there was anyone, has fallen through. Wish Boland and his staff all the best.
There was nobody lined up Russell went on Monday Willie came in on Tuesday to take training for the week for the Pats game.
Does he have pro licence does anyone know?
I had thought it was pretty much known on Monday that Willie, Joe and Eddie will take the team for Friday. I would have been extremely surprised if the club had someone ready to come in within a few days.
LOI pull out going with Tommy Dunne as one the favs to replace Russell. Make no mistake people I will boo him onto the pitch the first game if he gets it. Would be a joke appointment so hopefully just paper talk.
Have to say, I was surprised ye are going for Dunne(if the Sun info is correct).

It would be interesting at least haha
Russell on Soccer Republic now.
He was fairly gracious, and very reserved about it. Points of views exchanged, differences of opinions, no hard feelings, wish them the best of luck, etc.
Seems to have gone a bit quiet on this, looks like Boland is heading into his 4th game as interim manager this weekend.
I think it was expected he would take us for 4 or 5 games. With the games coming thick and fast also it was probably right to leave him there for now. After Derry game the fixtures should settle down a bit for us.
So is it looking like an Irish manager, or someone from the domestic game, or are we casting a wider net ?
According to the senior soccer correspondent on 95fm it has to be the present mgt team ,who are in caretaker charge at the moment...he has been championing the Willie Boland,Tommy Barrett,Eddie Hickey ticket all week.
As much as I wanted someone with proper experience at first if we beat Galway with another good performance like the last two league games it would be hard to argue if the club gave it to Willie. In saying that if Willie was unsure about taking it I would still be all in for Baraclough.
If there is a way round the badges fair enough but ordinarily he cannot be given it. So far though he is clearly good enough. Definitely a future manager for us if not our next. Having said that, manager is the fastest ticket out of the club and Willie likely has a valuable role heading the academy first.
Fella who got the Sligo job was in for the Limerick job. Got no response to his application.
Maybe he turns out to be great, but looks an underwhelming appointment.
I think its safe to say we wouldn't have exactly been on here jumping for joy if he got it but will be interesting to see how he does now.
Doesn't look like it's gonna be Willie the way he was speaking in the leader.
Yeah, read as very cut and dry that he isn't in consideration, which would make sense if the coaching badges aren't there. Interviews starting this week.
It actually has worked out quite well in retrospect. Replacing a manager mid-season is usually, by necessity, a quick process, whether its getting some one new in or handing the interim guy the reins permanently after a couple of good results. But Limerick had a very safe pair of hands ready to take the team who gave them the chance to undertake the application/selection process patiently, without being in a position to cloud the issue himself. Now whoever does come in has a team that has righted the ship to some extent, as opposed to one that is mired in the back half of the table.
The potential problem is that the players might struggle to adapt from Boland to the new manager whenever he is brought in, and that Boland himself might not fit in with a new guy's plans.
I'd say Boland will be stepping back to the head of the Academy so not being in the new managers plans shouldn't be an issue.
Intelligent decision from Willie ,overall circumstances incl lack of badges not right for him at this time.........but ffs ,95fm,s senior soccer correspondent will be devastated given recent musings by him.
Baraclough hired to coach Northern Ireland U-21's I see.
Andrew Cuneen hinting on twitter that an appointment may be imminent while saying Boland will Take charge on Saturday for the last time.
What's this rumour new manager in by the weekend?
Think the rumour is new manager to be sorted by the weekend but Willie to still take the team for Sligo on Saturday.
Final three.
One standout and one obvious one.
It'll be more interesting than Russell :good: :ball:
Domestic based or is there someone going be house searching in Limerick ?
House or castle depending on which of the three :p
Surely we are not stupid enough to bring in someone outside the league we need someone who knows this league and it's players
