Update on Hayes transfer chase.

No quotes from either manager, or the player himself. This all seems to be based on Rodgers having a word with Hayes (who he worked with at Reading) after the cup final
Hayes and Shaughnessy named in Team of the Year.

Had lost track of Shaughnessy. His brother's contract was extended at Leeds too wasn't it? Big year ahead for these boys next year.
The Hayes to Celtic rumour is still doing the rounds. Daily Mail (not the Gospel) reckon a bid has been accepted for 1.2m:

Sky Sports just reporting that they are closing in on his signing.

Interesting. Celtic throwing their weight around Bayern Munich style.
Hayes has 2 years left on his contract, practical for his club to look for best transfer terms, player wants to go, Celtic make an offer which is better than 3 other English championship clubs.
There's no throwing the weight around, as in tempting away a player away from a club desperate to keep him.
It's a handshake deal.
He's a sub for Forrest or a replacement when Forrest is not fully fit (back problems).
It wasn't a criticism of Celtic, or Bayern either for that matter, it's just the way of the world unfortunately. Two years is a significant amount of time remaining on the contract of a player who turns 30 next month I think, there is no immediate panic for Aberdeen to cash in I wouldn't have thought, just a case of damage limitation if they're resigned to losing him anyway.
Hayes wants to go? Well he probably does now that Celtic are in for him. It's not like he's been beating down the door for a move and he signed a new contract extension at Aberdeen as recently as February, despite Cardiff trying to sign him the previous month.
Celtic are probably on a shortlist of the only clubs Aberdeen would prefer not to sell their players to, but as you suggest they're left with little choice if the player's head is turned and Celtic offered the most money. To me that is Celtic throwing their weight around, using their status and superior financial muscle to secure one of their closest challenger's best players.
I don't see how that's so different to Bayern coming knocking for Dortmund players which, again, they're entitled to do. It happens in every league to a certain extent but I think the reason I drew a comparison to Bayern is because the SPL and Bundesliga are now over before they begin in terms of the eventual winner, yet the gap is allowed to get bigger and bigger as they can pick off their closest rival's best players.
The fact that you suggest Hayes would only be a bit part player or back up to Forrest emphasises the muscle Celtic have even further, that they could take one of Aberdeen's most influential players just to bolster their own squad a little.
Obviously Celtic aren't on Bayern's level with the way they dismantled Dortmund's team, I was only making a throwaway remark about this 's particular transfer if it goes through, wasn't really expecting the statement to be analysed so thoroughly. :)
A succinct evaluation that posed more questions than answers I think.
Might be relevant to the rumoured transfer to Celtic, it's been reported that Rogers has opened talks with Man City to sign Roberts on a permanent deal
Transfer to Celtic agreed, subject to medical: http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/40292266
signed a three year deal with Celtic this afternoon: http://www.celticfc.net/news/12794

Lovely touch by Hayes with a message to Aberdeen fans and staff.
Too many exclamation marks though.

Also, looks like Anton Rogers has a trial at Celtic
More likely his dad is just throwing him a bone.
named on the bench for Celtic's Champions League qualifier against Linfield: https://twitter.com/celticfc/statuse...76609747734528
nice goal against Sunderland today: https://twitter.com/goalforceltic/st...08067198992384
Jonny gets the nod tonight for his first league start as Celtic travel to Partick. Joint responsibility for goals lying on his and the other 3 attacking midfielders as Rodgers doesn't start a recognised striker (LiveScore has Forrest up front).
Suffered a broken leg yesterday, out for the rest of the season now: http://www.celticfc.net/news/13762
I thought he looked good when he came on as a sub in the previous game but I suppose his biggest contribution at Celtic so far is being a catalyst in part for the much improved performance this season from (his rival) Forrest.
Hayes has recovered from the broken leg, and is in pre season training with Celtic : https://www.celticfc.tv/tv/video/vod/8882

on the bench tonight for Celtic against Rosenborg
first appearance for Hayes since August tonight, starting against Motherwell
Thought he had a good game for Celtic yesterday as a full back/wing back, although he over hit a few crosses. Natural progression for some wingers who don't make it (e.g. Seamus Coleman) as wingers to try their hand as a full back. Watch this space.
I think I saw somewhere that he got motm.
Perhaps we can revolutionize football by playing a team full of fullbacks/wingbacks. Defensively sound, offensively dangerous...what could go wrong?!
Jonny did well v Valencia , he looks just at home on the left as he does on the right. He's been very impressive in these last 2 games and considering he's just back after a long injury rehab. Definitely a candidate for our left back/left midfield.
Hayes starts the Scottish Cup Final for Celtic. Mulraney starts for Hearts, with Doyle and Shaughnessy on the bench.
He might have been partially culpable for the Hearts goal but otherwise he had an impressive game, he's a tough nut and a versatile player. Is he a better option than McClean/Stevens?
Probably not. But I think I’d maybe take him over Greg Cunningham who is in the current squad...
Hayes nowhere near good enough for the Ireland team, unless there there is a serious injury crisis at some stage. Has done well to get a few starts for Celtic I suppose, but it's only because Tierney is injured and Izzaguire's legs are gone. They don't have many alternatives to him at the moment.
Hayes is currently filling in at LB but his better position is at LM. He’s had plenty of game time since returning from injury. There is no way he is far behind McClean. I’d have him ahead of McClean. He has more football ability in his locker than McClean and just as tough a nut.
Hayes is ambiwinger, equally adept on either side of midfield.
