I remember going to the Albania match last year and the announcer was the Celtic announcer and they played a load of Celtic songs at half-time and full-time.
Personally I thought it was a load of ****** and I didnt really enjoy the whole experience. In fact I don't like going to Ireland soccer matches at Lansdowne. Most of the fans there are Dublin gowls. Most of the fans that go to Ireland matches are Celtic fans so I don't really care about the friendly thing. Its just the fact that the FAI were pushing it at me at that match that got to me.
well dont pick at a post if you cant back it upQuote:

The Ireland V Celtic love fest will be absolutely pointless but so what. All friendlies are. If nothing else the fringe players will see whats its like to play in front of a large crowd. I'd predict 2-2 with McGeady scoring for both teams.
Looks like Israel are expecting a decent Irish crowd. Shame on you ******* who travel. Roy Keane ? Maybe this is your moment to make a real stand.
Unless these games are played in neutral venues behind closed doors lets not play the hypocritical racism card.

The reason that I ask this is that you dismissed Jackie McNamara's game out of hand without finding out if the proceeds were going to charity.
Didn't say that, but for the record yes, I would go.Quote:

When Niall Quinn's game at Sunderland in 2002 was arranged and announced it was always up front that the proceeds were going to Crumlin hospital and children's charities in the local area.Quote:

Fair enough, apologise if I misinterpreted you, as I have said I don't agree with millionaire footballers further lining their own pockets (tax free as well) with lucratve testamonials and would not attend one myself.

im 100% irish, born and bred yet i ran 400m at junior level for england as the irish setup was a joke, and they didn't even want to hear about me living in england. what i think should be remembered and even by the irish lads who come to england for a career, the sides over here offer them so much support. indeed, the irish youngsters are offered weekends home, often paid for, sometimes there families are invited over for a week. they are put in digs with other irish youths or with irish minders. so much is done for them so naturally the english born 'oirish' are bound to get the impression that the english system is naturally the best one, i know i did, and i came from ireland!!

I agree with you totally JOERAKI. At least 80% of Celtic fans in Ireland are a JOKE. They were the shirts non stop, but wouldn't have a clue who they're playing at the weekend. OR name 4 or 5 players off team
Does that mean Celtic have to be hated?Quote:

BTW, I think its quite clear that this match will cause more controversy than anything else so I doubt it was the FAI trying to keep people happy.
I'm at a loss to see how that is a bad thing?!?!? Something that marks us out as a great country is our patriotism and unlike some people I won't go round slagging off Ireland because I'm PROUD to be Irish!Quote:

FWIW i was at the last game in 91 - Packie's testimonial. Didn't meet any other Irish fans ont he way over or back on the boat or near the game or indeed any Irish Celtic fans although I assume some must have travelled from Donegal.
no away end open either although no need as we were obviously made very welcome.
Celtic finished a distant 3rd that season and won nothing. They got a decent crowd though - 40,000+ if I remember correctly.
Have also given up on testimonials although went to Quinners as that was different. The money being earned by players these days is huge and good luck to them but throwing in a testimonial is a joke.
I assume we will play as a Republic of Ireland XI and not award caps. did that for Tony Gale too at West Ham and Matt Busby at Man utd.
I assume the F.A.I. are pocketing a fee for this. These testimonials can be lucrative for the away team.
I think they demean national teams. Northern Ireland played Macclesfield a few years back
I'm obviously not a fan of the Celtic love in either and with the adverse publicity due to the sectarian booing this game will hardly help.
FFS Gary dont start that up again :)Quote:

when the time comes I am sure Jackie will donate the money to some worthwhile cause - his father is renowned for his charity work (a member of the Communist Party to boot), not only on behalf of Celtic FC, but ask Hibs fans about Jackie Snr and you'll get nothing but positive responses.
To be fair Arbroath are in a different league to ICT - so unless drawn together in a cup tie this would not occur.Quote:

I thought it was quite obvious. It is the one thing anti-Celtic people hate. Its actually the one thing that makes Irish people become anti-Celtic (ie. they think Irish people support Celtic because they're Irish). :)
Maybe after yesterdays events involving Hearts , Celtic wont be interested in playing this fixture. They are going to need a break after all!
Could the FAI also agreed to this match to see if Parkhead is a viable alternative to Lansdowne when the rennovations commence and if Croke Park isn't available to them? It could make for a interesting weekend if "Watford" are in the Final....and if all goes well, then who knows?
Having said all of this, it takes an organisation with a clear long term vision and the FAI certainly don't possess that! :D
