Says more about Scottish football than LoI. Even if he was a borderline national squad player £1.2mil would be £1.20 if being signed from his LoI club!!?!

Probably, yeah. You'd wonder how much of Sammon's improvement was just down to the basic fact he was full-time and playing for a team rubbish enough to have to offer him gametime.
Had a quick look there, scored 17 in 65 games over 3 years for Killie, 1 for Derby in 83, 1 for Wigan in 32 and 4 in 34 out on loan to Ipswich and Rotherham. Now if thats worth £1.2mil+ then Vinny Faherty must be at least 10k :p Fagan 400k!!?
Sammon could be the luckiest pro footballer ever!!
Think about 15 of those goals came in the 3-4 months before Wigan signed him though. His one run of form in 24-odd years to that point and it makes him a Premier League footballer. Truly blessed.
I watched a good bit of him at UCD and even earlier and I know Stu has said similar - he was very average.
What were the reasons behind Daryl Kavanagh's departure from Droghs? If I was in any way affiliated with Derry, I'd be getting out the buckets outside the stadium to try and get him in.
oooh, and Droghs have made two signings. Ex-Dundalk youth player, Kaguako and some randomer called James Daly.

It's does say a lot about Scottish football. The Scottish FA give a f**k about their league, it gets decent sponsorship, and clubs (for the most part) are in decent financial state. It's also much better attended, and has good media coverage. Whatever about difference, or lack of, in standard, they're in a much better position financially to bargain over players.
League of Ireland teams would be well within their rights to argue over half a million for top players, but the fact remains, if someone offered €300k for Towell this week, Dundalk would be in no position to turn that down.
Therein lies the problem.
I agree with all those points Nigel. Its a well worn thread I know but in relative terms the investment needed in LoI to dominate with annual European appearances as opposed to trying to break a long established elite in Scotland and England, I dont know why a serious financial backer hasnt had a go here. Especially when there are players that have made a step up - with the finances in a club the return on player sales increases, sponsorship and profile up and then prize money. I dont mean a cobbled together consortium hoping to cash in on a land deal or Coghlan style spoof!
Town have signed Jack Doherty recently released by Waterford. Meh. He's talented but seems to have a poor attitude.
That's an awfully strange signing for Longford. He hasn't exactly set the First Division alight with bottom of the table Waterford.
He has enough ability to do well based on the few times I saw him at Waterford. But obviously there's question marks about whether he'll apply himself. I assume he's not costing much.

Still waiting on confirmation from the club on this one but great signing if true!!!
Could have sworn I saw a post saying Jack Doherty signed for Wexford. Maybe I dreamt it though.

The link above should work.
"Limerick are also in the market for a midfielder and a striker"
They're aiming to go down with the greatest LOI midfield ever assembled, I think. Replace Oji ffs, there's about half a decent centreback in the entire squad.
I'll get the usual transfer thread started in a day or 2 for Julys transfers
"Randomer" - what does that even mean?
Does it just mean that you have never heard of him, or is it something more profound than that?
Manny Kaguako is a strong athletic young player who can play in either full back positions. I expect he will get some game time at Drogheda this season and may be one to watch for the future
The former. No disrespect to the lad and his followers.
I was happy we got rid of Doherty. This is the lads fifth club in two years which pretty much says it all tbh.
Definitely a strange signing by Longford very surprising signing too. He could go on and be a starting first team LOI premier player no hassle but because of he's attitude I highly doubt it will happen. This is he's last chance so who knows.
No mention of Lynch on the Limerick website still, even in the preview for the Bray game so maybe still not confirmed.
Harps in: Conor Keddy (Home Farm, formerly of Cockhill Celtic)
Conor Glesson on bench tonight for Athlone Town vs Cobh Ramblers

Lee Lynch returns to Limerick.
Bray sign Peter Cherrie. Good signing.

Great signing for Bray. Cherrie was a top player and good servant for Dundalk for six years. It will be hard to see him play for another club. Really hope it works out for him.
Would have thought a goalkeeper was well down the list of priorities for Bray with young McGuinness doing well there.
I'm surprised he has signed for Bray considering the manager has just left due to money issues. He was a good keeper for us but not brilliant, and while I'm not sure we have improved our goalkeeper that much, I think it says a lot about Cherrie that his best option was Bray.
So did he sign before or after Crolly left?
What was his last club and did he sign on a Saturday???
