This is great.
Hard to see how Heary can't organise a defence properly seeing as he was such a class defender. Yet another game where we gave away multiple simple goals to the opposition. He must have been happy with what he was seeing out there seeing as he made only one change during the game and never changed the shape of the team once. Shams weren't even that good. Just kept having goals handed to them.

Meant to post up last night. That was a nice tribute by the shed lads in the oriel park last night to the Pats fan Hanno who sadly passed away earlier in the week. Nice touch guys.
Good win for us last night, and coupled with bohs win over dundalk, it keeps things interesting at the top with dundalk potentially only being 6 ahead of us should they win their game in hand. Long way to go yet
In fairness Quigley has played in centre midfield many a time - even going back as far as his days at Pats - I would not consider him in there as a handicap in any way whatsoever.Quote:

Was talking to Harps players today. None complained about the result. There was (good humoured) chat about two of the Athlone defenders constantly verbally and physically trying to get Wilfried to react & do something foolish. In fact at one point Athlone midfielder told him "to just ignore it" .
Nothing particularly offensive was said or done- just usual constant niggling.
One of the attempts by Athlone player at a corner was admittedly very humorous.
I have no doubt some of our lads were probably doing what they could to get an advantage.
Its the way it goes. Big 3 points for Athlone.
I saw him a couple of times early in the season and I thought he was just there to make up the numbers. If he's that good I doubt he'll be in the First Division for long.Quote:

Derry will stick with Pizza because they know he's doing a rebuilding job. Heary is too but Sligo have shown they'll make tough decisions if things aren't going right. I think they'll give him the season anyway.

Yep. Heary has been sacked. A lot of genuine goodwill towards him when he was appointed but , frankly, he has been a disaster and totally out of his depth. Rico seems to be the hot fav to succeed and that deal will be self financing - programme sales will take care of his wages.

What exactly was the reason for Barraclough’s sacking in mid 2014? He won the league in 2012, Cup in 2013 and the Setanta Cup a month or so before he was sacked. It can’t have been down to the poor league form in 2014, or possible long shot at making Europe that season? If it was, do you think that was justifiable reasons for sacking him? Given recent events, making that change seems like a really drastic move now.
Just on Heary, if this was widely accepted as a transition year for Sligo, should they have backed him for a bit longer, or was there no sign of any change in fortunes? It was clear this season Mid Table would have been their limit, then again I suppose last Friday didnt help his cause much.
A team in transition from being top half to relegation fodder. i'd presume the Sligo board would have been happy enough if Sligo were looking safe,accepting poor results too due to a rebuilding process but not at the risk of relegation as they are currently. I think it is a wise move as much as I generally dislike trigger happy club boards. Would have been ideal for Croly if timing has suited. I'd love to see Tom Mohan have a pop at LoI if he'd leave his FAI position and with Sligo being close enough to home.
Know Tom quite well myself an absoulte gent a fantastic coach above anything else but I'd say he's very happy and quite comfortable with the job he has now and I know from talking to him he doesn't follow the LOI as closely as you might thinkQuote:

The Barraclough situation was always a bit strange. Lots of people felt he won the league with Cooks team (true and all that it is but Cook never won the League of Ireland with his team) and he never got the true credit he deserved for it. Always rumours that he didn't get on with board members and they were waiting for some sort of downturn in form to get rid of him and the cup defeat in Oriel last year they felt they should get rid. Brought in The Mitchell Brothers to basically get rid of most of our squad (Aaron Greene didn't want to leave this time but was still turfed out and it's great to see him doing so well at Pats now).
