For the good of Irish football
Gentlemen,
I'm a 22-year old Irish football supporter from Borris-in-Ossory Co. Laois currently living in Toronto. I would consider myself an avid supporter of the Irish team, no better no worse than anyone else, in that regard.
It is with great disillusionment and annoyance that I read about yet more (apparent) internal wranglings within the FAI. To be honest, (no offence intended) the actual reasons for the current impasse have no interest for me whatever. What does concern me is the future of Irish football. We currently have a senior team that is competing well in international competition with an excellant manager in Brian Kerr presiding over matters (deserved kudo's to the FAI on that score)
There also has been remarkable progress been made with the Eircom League which seems to have co-incided with the appointment of Mr. Rooney as CEO of the FAI. The evidence is there for all to see. I spent last Summer in Dublin and I believe I got great value for money going to games in Belfield, Dalymount, Richmond and Tolka etc. The European exploits of Shelbourne this season is the ultimate barometer of how much progress has been made (much more to do obviously but progress nonetheless)
Now maybe I am totally misinterpreting the reasons why this 'progress' has been made. But it definatley seems to me that Mr. Rooney has made profound impact on the administraion of the FAI during his tenure, thus far. The Genesis report did indeed reveal some home truths about the previous running of the organisation. My attitude would be that you guys have to take this advice on board and implement the directives being suggested. Surely the betterment of Irish football should be the prime motive for every FAI official. (Call me idealistic and naive but thats how I feel)
From my point of view, I implore all those concerned not to remove Mr. Rooney from his current position as CEO of the FAI. I'm not saying that he's the best thing for the FAI since sliced bread. But my overwhelming impression that the FAI will be a better organisation with Mr. Rooney at the helm than without. With a redeveloped Lansdowne Road on the horizon, now is no time for yet more internal strife in the FAI. I would implore all those concerned...
Please do not remove Mr. Rooney.
Regards

O.K. I have just sent that e-mail. And the only confirmation I have is for Fran Rooney. This is what I've recieved for Milo Corcoran and John Delaney.

Not in any way am I surprised by this. I doubt if anyone on this board would be either. What is it with these guys? A question which has had me blue in the face for most of my life!!

Everyone could make red cards and hold them up at the start of the game as a sign of our disapproval at what has happened to F. Rooney. This would be cheap and easy to do and if alot of people are together on this it would visually look well and thus get on the TV. We could hand them out to other people as I'm sure alot of Fans agree with the sentiments expressed here. I think we should recognise that we are all The F.A.I. collectively and they are not just the fat cats in Merrion Square, they represent us and we represent them and Ireland. We are getting a raw deal from these fools who make us all look bad. This can't go on for ever and a stand needs to be taken. What do some of the 1000+posters think of this they seem to be stayin out of this debate.
Red card idea , excellent

Two reams of paper would get us nearly 1,000 cards. The FAI banners would be good too - all it'd take is one photographer to see the stewards removing them (if it does happen) to get in the papers the next day.Quote:

Chants - what about "If you hate John Delaney/Milo Corcoran clap your hands", "MC/JD, you're a w@nker" (as mentioned - just have to make sure I don't start abusing Maurice Farrell! ;) ), "Milo Milo Milo OUT OUT OUT" or others. But I think banners are better than chants as more people will get the message (especially with no roof on Lansdowne) and you can't get a picture of a chant in a newspaper.
Think the best place to go in the ground would be right behind the goal, preferably beside a sound mic. If I can get in early (i.e. 6:30 or so), I can head into the ground and hang up a UCD tricolour as a meeting point. Maybe a carton of pineapple juice as well! :D
Sent a one line message of support to Rooney yesterday and got a reply this morning thanking me. Nice touch on his part.
same here, hopefully not an autoresponderQuote:

reckon red card is best idea!
think there should be a meeting place before game - distribute cards etc, let others (i.e no involved with EL)
don't know if anyone knows, but what kind of a wage is Rooney on?
totally disagree with the way he's being treated, but any true fan wouldnt demand a huge wage if it was something he cared about!!
Don't get me wrong - i reckon he's not just in it for money! and he has made progress!! but chanting his name for me is a bit too much like hero worship for the guy. IMO he should be making this progress despite the auld sh*ts in Merrion Sq.
I stand to be corrected bout his wage though!! :)
yep il be up for that how about murrays before hand we can ask a moderator to sticky a time and a place when we have agreed one

i'd be onboard with the idea of some sort of protest, i'm sick of the old boys gang in the fai doing nothing but shooting down anyone who tries to progress the organisation. and even if rooney is doing a terrible job, it can't be any worse than the one that they were doing for the last 80-90 years or so. we could try getting gangs of people to buy sheets of red card and write em up, if we could get 50 people to do 40 each (or 100 people doing 20 each) say that'd be a pretty decent spectacle. meet up and disperse them before the game. few banners and chants too and that should get the message across well enough
If Rooney hasn't done anything wrong maybe we can find out more? What do the other bodies in the FAI think he's done wrong? Why did he avoid answering questions on Primetime? Why (if you believe some commentators on liveline yesterday) do the underling office staff in FAI suffer because of a 'dictorial' management style? Is he not the CEO? Where does the buck stop? Why has not one management meeting not taken place in the FAI e.g. Packie Bonner? On what basis would you wish to chant his name over the other incompetents at the FAI?Quote:

I'll side with him untill the people trying to get rid of him give a good reason for thinking he's incompetentQuote:

This thread got a mention in one of the newspaper this morning. It was either the Star or the Sun. Can't remember which one as I flicked through both of them on the train down from Dublin today. Somebody has noticed!! Good work.
Did you get a reply when you we're looking for your promised match tickets against France in France? or did you get a reply when you logged onto the FAI website and sent a message to the CEO...Quote:

Dean, I doubt you will find anyone in the world that will do 100% of what the fans want. If Rooney is sacked I'm certain he won't be replaced by anyone better and there is no valid reason to sack him.Quote:

I doubt the FAI would find anyone half as good as Fran Rooney. Most of what Rooney does is for the fans.Quote:

So are all the CEO's wrong? Of course they are, sure isn't it as plain as day.........It's definately Rooney, no case of deja-vu here lads.....:rolleyes:Quote:

Fairly hard for him to implement the Genesis Report when you have Corcoran/Delaney actively standing in his way by not allowing him to advertise posts externally as was required under the report.Quote:

Have to say I think a protest about the FAI is a good idea the place is a joke and its gone too far at this stage. I think corcoran and Delaney are the worst culprits and I fully support a protest against this two dinosaurs that refuse to let Irish Soccer progress. However I dont think keeping Fran Rooney will solve the problem. Even if he does stay then he will still have to deal with the other two muppets and he will get nowhere.
That is why we have to protest against the main problem Corcoran and Delaney they are whats wrong with the FAI. I fully agree with protesting against them. I think red cards or banners with
"Delaney Corcoran we've had enough" would be a good idea.
"Delaney and Corcoran ... Your Having A Laugh" :)
Ok people, following Rooney's resignation, this protest must happen for even more reasons now.
The Farcical Association of Ireland must listen to how we feel about this, so must the government.
Delaney & Corcoran Out! Reinstate Rooney!

Ladies and Gentlemen I reckon we are gonna take this red card protest forward. If your interested make it known at this thread so we can gage the amount of support and if there is enough we will go through with it.
