Fancy Pats to make it two in a row.
Bray to go down.
Cork to have a good year.
Limerick and Drogheda to both be very poor.
Taylor first manager to leave.
If we had a few more players id be quite confidant. We have a decent first team but we have a very small squad and that will show as the season goes on. Its only the first game Saturday and we already have 4 players potentially missing. Barry Clancy and Derek Prendergast are suspended. And Alan Byrne and Jamesy O'Brien are injured. 3 key players out. Not a great start. Expecting an absolute thumping by Sligo.
You'll notice the speed of the attacks, usually one of the first things a newly promoted team feels, but I still think Athlone will be ok when they settle into the season. Appointing Cooke was a good move.
Best of luck to everyone for 2014, well you know apart from Drogs tonight;)
Here are a few small bets with PP I did for a bit of fun, not going to pile in LOI with loads of dosh so....
I really fancy Cork City at 16/1. Pretty good at home and have added a few "decent" players to their squad -Dennehy. Elding, Rafter, and one of my LOi favs Kearney. (albeit he hasnt done anything in years)
Unlike most on here I dont think the LOI standard is up to much these days and any team could challenge, so why not Cork City. Also like rafter at 18/1 to be top scorer, as an each way bet and Cork first Sligo second is 60/1! and Cork plus 18 point handicap at 17/2
For the first I cant believe Longford are favourites, not that they haven't a good team but I don't know how they are still staying with Cousins, I said it two seasons ago, they will not get promoted with him in control, unfortunately as Id love them to go up!
So just went with Wexford youths at 18/1 since they got Furlong back, not really expecting much but couldnt stomach backing anyone else.
So thats my kiss of death then on Cork, sorry!:o

So how did everyone do? My boundless optimism has been shown up for the shallow masochism that it is. I think I owe Dundalk a huge apology and I underestimated Cork massively, while my belief in Roddy Collins should probably result in my immediate banishment from this forum.
Jesus, most of us haven't a clue.
Some of the predictions, me included. :o
The final league positions compared to the average prediction by posters.
Given Dundalk finished three points off Pats in 2013 it is surprising that they were so unfancied. Possibly the most surprising champions in a long time?
Dundalk 1 (4)
Cork City 2 (6)
St Pats 3 (1)
Shams 4 (2)
Sligo 5 (3)
Limerick 6 (7)
Bohs 7 (8)
Derry 8 (5)
Drogheda 9 (9)
Bray 10 (12)
UCD 11 (11)
Athlone 12 (10)
I didn't give a prediction but I assure you that the way the league table finished was exactly how I would have predicted it.
