We started early because of the new manager, hence the 6th.
Ridiculously long off season means ridiculously long pre-season I guess.

Harps were beat 2-1 in their first Pre-Season friendly by local amateur side Cockhill Celtic now manager by ex Harps & Derry City player Donal O'Brein. New Harps manager Ollie Horgan fielded a team made up of mainly trailists for the game. Report for local press here http://donegalnews.com/2014/01/finn-...ckhill-celtic/
Next up for Ollie Horgan's men is another local amateur team Drumkeen United on Wednesday night at the Finn Valley Athletic Club
Dundalk FC V Barnsley FC - Friday 24th January
Drogheda beat Glebe 5-1. Goals from Holohan, Gav Brennan, Philly Hughes and a cracker from Gary O'Neill.
Cork City v Finn Harps will take place in Drom soccer park in Galway.
Finn Harps 2-1 Drumkeen united. More trial players involved including Gerard O'Callaghan formerly of UCD and Daryl Carrigy of Derby County who may be coming in on loan.
Is there any appetite within clubs for a shorter off season? I suppose those giving players contracts for 42 weeks or so prefer it. I always think the weekend in February where there's no 6 nations games after the first two weekends is the ideal weekend to start.
Always thought that myself. The off-season is far too long in the League of Ireland.
The problem is, the Premier Division could comfortably run from February - November with a mid season break, but the First Division would still only work from March - Oct with the lack of teams.
[QUOTE=Martinho II;1732960]daryl is from Ardagh Co Longford and is a midfielder. he has being over the last few years and is a midfielder. Derby got him from one of the schoolboy clubs in Dublin whose name I am strugglin to remember.
The Club is Stella Maris
Latest: Dundalk 1 - 2 Barnsley
FT: Dundalk 1- 4 Barnsley
Good first half by Dundalk but they were dead on their feet in the second half. Big gulf in fitness.
Hopefully there were plenty of Irish Barnsley fans in attendance who've decided the LOI is full of overweight no-marks based on a game played the second week of pre-season against full-time athletes.
Cork City 3-0 Waterford Utd in today's friendly.
Goals came from Billy Dennehy, Michael Rafter and Anthony Elding.
Coleraine - Derry match due for tomorrow night is now cancelled. That's our third pre-season match cancellation in the space of week.
How people can contemplate playing winter football in this country is beyond me.
What was the result of Ballymun - Drogheda?
Agree that the weather of recent days make any consideration of returning to winter soccer redundant. I know one of the mns pundits (ex-Shels player in Ollie Byrne team) supports the idea but I think he is wrong.
