Why is it in Dublin though can I ask?
Easy access for the media perhaps?
Yeah that'd be the main reason I would think, to try and get some national coverage.
What exactly does Munnelly do? Am I right in saying he's based in London?
Somewhere around there yeah. He's in waste management. Hopefully not in the way Tony Soprano was in waste management. I think he has a few other interests as well. A very wealthy man by all accounts. Apparently there's a few sponsors being announced tomorrow.

City Calling Stadium.....very sexy....
A new venture Phil Munnelly is launching in Ireland it seems. Some form of recruitment company I think. Five year deal which is great news.
Yeah exactly, whatever about the stadium name changing, securing such a long term sponsorship deal is very encouraging to see!I'd imagine companies aren't exactly lining up to sponsor teams in the First Division..
City Calling Stadium....as mrs brown would say "thats nice"...
I refuse to call it anything but Flancare Park.
Won't be easy to make songs about this :)
Anyone with any idea of how much money we'll be getting?
Think I'll call it Mullologher for old times' sake.
I'm far too good to you people!

The City Calling for the Section O
Come out from Foxs you boys and girls
City Calling you won't beat us
Now [Athlone Town/whoever] has bitten the dust..
Er..that's about the best I can do right now :o
The City Calling Stadium?
Erasure - Little Respect - Needs some tweaking..esp last line
I try to discover
A little something to make me sweeter
Oh baby refrain from breaking my heart
(We love you longford town)
(You'll never let us down)
That you give me no reason
Why you're making me work so hard
That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no
Soul, I hear (city) calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me
Don't know what others think but I think the away jersey is quite nice. Not sure about the home one though, it looks as if one arm is black and one is red! Also Gillespie looks as if he didn't get much sleep the night before, looks quite tired looking at the table!!!
The Mirror reckons €60k over five years. I have to say I'd be very surprised if it was that low, based on what Munnelly was already paying for the back of the jersey and what Flancare were paying. I know there wouldn't be a queue for it but we're not desperate either.
Still going with the Munnsiro.
Hopefully the club shop will be putting in/ taking orders for the new kits soon enough. The away one would suit my work footy game!
60k over 5 years?! No disrespect to anyone, but I'd nearly be able to pay that myself.
Yeah I think it's probably a mistake by The Mirror. €60k a year seems more likely to me. Jim Hanley was talking about the deal keeping the club on a sound financial footing for the years ahead, I can't see him settling for €12k a year or making such a big deal about it. Munnelly has been paying at least €10k a year ever since he's become a sponsor as far as I know and as said above that was just for the back of the jersey.
Edit: Dan McDonnell of The Irish Independent who would be a reliable journalist has said on Twitter it's worth "a substantial six figure sum" over the five years so I think it may well be €60k a year.
Yep he is after confirming in the replies that 60k over 5 years was wrong and that it isn't a "million miles away" from that amount a year.
No idea how it compares to other clubs? What's the going rate so to speak?
I'd imagine that's pretty high up the list of all 20 clubs. Rovers and Sligo would get more I'm sure. Probably Cork too, not sure about Drogheda. Going rate is hard to measure but I'd have thought €30-40k a year would get you on a fair few shirts.
Which season did Longford move from 'Abbeycarton' to 'City Calling Stadium' ?
I think 1993 but I'm sure Marty will have the right answer for ya.
Well theboss we moved officially to CCS a few months into the 93-94 season. Our first game when we moved permanently was when we played UCD around weekend ending 12.11.93 in 93-94 season so 20 yrs anniversary will be coming up soon! We lost 2-1 to UCD Pierce Walsh the goalscorer!
