He's definitely eligible through his grandmother.
He's definitely eligible through his grandmother.
well according to wiki (which is hardly the most reliable source out there Iknow) he has played for Ireland at schoolboy level and reportedly said in 2011 that he has always wanted to play for Ireland, mind you has played U21 for Scotland too which seems to contradict that. Will be interesting to see how he gets on like as we seem to be short of options in defence especially so if Dunne calls it a day!
He's a decent defender Alex Pearce i think his is full name. Reading have a good scouting system in Ireland in fairest.
Meaning a sh*t Borat movie?
Neil Warnock has told the Daily Mirror Paul Green's injury is "worse than we thought" and Leeds will be without the ex Derby and Doncaster man for several weeks. Green pulled up with a knee injury late on in the first half during Saturday's win over Wolves and faces an early spell on the sidelines. Green missed seven months whilst at Derby with cruciate ligament damage and now seems set to spend a spell on the sidelines at his new club!

I would be amazed if Robbie K isn't picked for this game to start. He scored vital goals in the last campaign and I see no reason to write his obituary following on Poland. Otherwise we should start with a new XI. I reckon he'll start with Walters and score.
The midfield will be Whelan and McCarthy and the defence will be McGeady, Kelly, O'Shea, O'Dea, Ward and Duff.
So other than McCarthy, I don't see any change really and why should he as that system has worked away in the qualifiers?
At home to Germany is another matter but we'll leave that to a later day.
Interesting perspective from Lee Carsley ahead of our first group games - doesn't tally with the general opinion around here. Apologies if it was already posted.

Suggestion in the Irish Sun that Robbie Keane will definitely be in the squad but that Duff has not committed himself yet. Sean St.Ledger has also said he'll be fit for Astana.
I understand Duff has publicly re-committed himself to international football at least twice since the beginning of July.
Duff doesnt need to commit himself. Surely its the status quo unless he 'uncommits' himself which he hasnt done as yet nor is he likely to based on the public statements to date.
Can a fan de-committ? I might have mulled over that option :)
Those Sun journalists have amazing powers of telepathy or do they just make shít up? That's a difficult question.
If true, good news about St. Ledger
'Defender St Ledger revealed on Twitter that he is back training three weeks ahead of schedule after a knee problem.'
Squad for Kazakhstan:
Westwood, Forde, Randolph;
Wilson, O'Shea, St Ledger, O'Dea, Ward, Kelly, McShane;
Gibson, McCarthy, Coleman, O'Brien, McGeady, Keogh, McClean;
Keane, Doyle, Long, Cox, Walters.
Duff left out due to international retirement. St. Ledger makes the squad, as does Wilson, but no Whelan? :/

Was worried for a moment when I saw no Dunne, but then I remembered that he's injured until the end of the month. I see Wilson is back in the squad, unlikely to see any game time though. Whelan doesn't appear to be injured, but I'm glad he won't be playing in Kazakhstan. And Robbie is in there, good to see he'll be back in the Green for this campaign.
There's the basis of a decent team in there with quite a few changes in midfield now that we're missing Duff, Whelan & Andrews. I almost feel positive.
Have they missed out Whelan?
They must have just left Whelan's name out of the list or something by mistake. Clerical error, I imagine. Trap wouldn't just drop him and I don't think he's suspended, or is he?
They must've missed him, seems extraordinary Trap would drop him from the squad altogether. I'd rather have him about anyway, regardless of whether he should play.
Traitor Marc Wilson gets a reprieve from Trap. Story with Whelan? Hunt dropped, so McClean is presumably nailed on now.
Good news: Robbie's not retiring.
Whelan is in the squad - clerical error.
Dan McDonnell tweeted Whelan is in, FAI twitter oversight. Also Trap said he'd be going to Birmingham tomorrow to talk to Richard Dunne.

Also before I forget - what a proper return for Joey O'Brien. All indications point to being a squad fixture for the foreseeable. Fantastic comeback.
Good to see idiot Shane Long involved too.
Depressing squad. We've never had such a bad group in my lifetime.
I know and in another few years, when the rugby breaks away and the irish dominance dwindles, the rugby will be such a bad group as well.
What on earth has rugby got to do with it?
I honestly think we're in good shape. Our midfield certainly looks a lot stronger than it did 6 months ago. We have strength in depth there now with Whelan, Andrews, McCarthy, Fahey, O'Brien, Gibson (playing regularly). Duff and Given are losses, but we have other players who can come in and fill those positions well.
Andy Keogh? the milky bars are on him when the squad meets up.
Is Joey O'Brien a midfielder?
We need some new stars fast.
