Have you never seen Hancock ref a game before?

The 2nd half at Brandywell made up for a turgid 1st half. I was impressed by the way Rovers gradually took a firm control of the game after Derry equalised. Frustrations about the old mythologies in the commentary, a pass back by the Sligo midfield was regarded as a negative thing 'Sligo going backwards'. Rico said statistics prove that goals are scored when the ball is put into the box, 'just get the ball into the box'. What a crock of sh*t. Sligo took a grip of the game in the last 30 minutes, playing controlled skilful football and when the ball did go into the box it was put in with precision.
3 great goals, the assist for Derry's goal was a thing of beauty.
I thought the ref did well, got the calls right, justifiably stopped the game when players were injured/hurt and didn't get suckered by the soft claims for fouls.
Second half, Bohs beating UCD, Drogheda beating St Pats but Drogs have had a man sent off. Huge result for Drogheda if they can hold on.
Drogheda go two up with 15 minutes left! They're heading for second spot as it stands.
Euro goal scoring hero Dave Scully sent off for Bohs. About five to go now.
Bohs and Drogs win. Think that puts Gypsies into 7th, Drogheda now second, 6 points behind Sligo.
We're sixth, 3 points off Rovers and 6 off Europe... :)
Inchicore result probably good for us, if only from the point of view that we always find it harder to take points off Pats than Drogheda. United motoring along nicely now, though, and having kept the run of form going up to this stage of the season, they won't see any reason why they shouldn't go all the way. So much for the two-horse race.
If Cork win their game in hand we're down to 8th. Our manager seems oblivious to problems with our performances:rolleyes:
Great to be 2nd, but I think we have benefited from a slight drop in standard in the league this year.
Massive disappointment today. Don't know if it was a euro hangover, or changing the two centre backs and the keeper(what was Bucko thinking ?) but we were poor. What was frustrating was that I think we really beat ourselves. Two comedy goals gifted to Drogheda, and they didn't really have to be anything more than solid to see out the game, they certainly didn't outplay us (Not knocking them btw, we didn't deserve anything from the game, don't think we actually managed an effort on target.) Bad day, but there's still a way to go, so who knows. And Sligo have yet to play in Europe, so we don't know how that will affect them. Huge game against them in two weeks.
Our next 4 games are huge. If we can go into the last series of games 6 points or less off top then we have a real chance of winning it. Europe is already killing us. Hopefully it has the same affect on Rovers and Shams.
Hmm yeah - you've also benefited having a decent set of players who play well as a team. The Brennans have been playing together all their lives -telepathy at this stage.
I went along to that match today and was expecting a high scoring draw. Lovely afternoon in the sun but what a pair of flukey goals.
Stephen O'Flynn's shot was brilliant. Pity he didn't score.
Shels to beat Drogs 4-0 next Friday.
Thank you Drogheda and thank you PaddyPower. A nice handy tenner made there.
Still think Shamrock Rovers can win the title, and if they do it will be a massive achievement by Kenny.
It would be an even bigger bottle job by Sligo at this stage.
14 games to go. If Rovers were to only win 7 of those, draw 3 and lose 4 they would end up on 59 points
Shams would have to win 11 and draw 2 of those 14 (or win more) of those games left to finish ahead of Sligo.
