Quality.Quote:
74' - Yellow Card - Yob Son booked for something more like a rugby tackle.
JAysus. It's all kicking off. Come on the Mons!
Sean Brennan 2-0, facing an uphill struggle now to retain our status
2-0. Massive goal for Mons. Could have gotten a bit jittery going to Galway 1-0 up.
7 Yellows and 2 Reds, madness.
It was a funny one alright, the ref had a good first half I thought, but in the second half he got a bit carried away with himself. I think the reds came out of a bit of aggro when Monaghan put the ball out for a throw-in after a stoppage for a Galway injury when Galway wanted a goalkick. A few yellows came out of Galway fouling on the halfway line to stop Fabio or Byrne running straight through.
Galway were poor technically, I can see how they only got 6 points all season but to give them credit they worked hard and the second leg won't be as straight forward as I'd hoped. The Monaghan players had some touches of class (especially the first goal) but got a bit lazy/nervous if Galway picked the pace up. That said I don't think Galway had any real chances and our defence always looked in control. Sean Brennan was quality and deserved his goal.
Roll on Friday and next season!
Good cowd ?
Both teams finished with 14 men according to Evanne Ni Chuilinn on RTE just now. Don't know what the hell Limerick are going to make of that...
Happened to be in the area so went to the match (didn't travel by tardis)
Second goal was sublime - the work on the wing before the cross was top class.
I have total respect for Galway fans - That 'We'll win again, don't know where, don't know when' chant says it all - that you can keep following the misfortunes of what is effectively a pub team as they get beaten week in week out and still come back for more - well, it has made me see why people were put out by Stuey Byrne's 'not fit for the Premier' comments on MNS the other night.
Can't see Galway getting the goals and not leaving yawning gaps at the back that you could fit several cows through
Ref was atrocious sent off the wron Monaghan player and the Galway player never even touched their player.Tomney also made a major **** up for the 1st goal as the throw in was to Galway.Mons the better side we were toothless BUT ITS NOT OVER TILL THE FAT LADY SINGS
Just the 6
It's since Jumbo took over and started doing the teamsheets. Someone should really tell him how to spell his players' names.
That tackle was brilliant. Yob had all four of his limbs off the ground and around the Mons player.
The ref really lost the plot last night. He was atrociously bad.
Having said that, we huffed and puffed without creating a real chance all night. We just have to work towards getting a Division One license and hopefully we'll find a few players somewhere.
The Monaghan left winger was excellent. Is he one of the Brennans?
About 14 of Limericks came against Shels in Tolka over the two games and I would think most Shels fans would agree 70% where ridiculous. We got 7 up there a few weeks ago in the league and the Shels lad doing the updates even said there wasn't a single bad tackle in the game.
Monaghan should have had a player sent off against us a few weeks ago also for a two footed tackle on Gaffney and it was also followed up soon after by another shocking tackle on Gaffney 5 minutes later.
Monaghan weren't a filthy team when they visited Jackman earlier in the season but in recent weeks have gotten very cynical. I'm not saying Limerick are saints by any means but it seems mad the amount of sendings off ye have picked up recently.
Any word on attendance last night?
I'd say 700. Definitely an increase on the crowd for the Bray playoff last year, which is very encouraging.
If and when Monaghan are premoted they have alot of work to do to get to preimer standard off the pitch
Their pitch is shocking not up to standard ,,,their lights are defo not bright enough it was so dark on tue night it was difficult to make out players identy on far side of pitch ......the pitch markings were wrong and pitch had to be remarked before ko.....and i also heard they had no match balls and had to borrow some from Galway ........lads this is ment to be highest standard in the country LOL:bad:
<Pulls up a chair, gets out popcorn>
This should be fun!
Their facilities are about as good as our team.
Round Galway Last night and this morning. With the president elect guest of honour, a celebratory feel will envelope the ground, We have bands to play for Michael D, Huge interest in the game with approx 2000 attending according to sources.
GUST on the town this morning with Terry the Tiger promoting the game.
Other who will be there tonight in huge numbers are the secretaries and chairmen of all the affiliated juvenile and junior clubs who are coming along
Bumper 44 page packed match programme available for only €3
I have a good feeling GUFC will win on penos
I personally think Mons have a fairly good setup given their fanbase.
I hope your "sources" are reliable, Geezer!
I think an early goal for monaghan will kill off the tie. I just hope that the players dont go out too cocky and faff around like fabio's chip to the keeper on tuesday. As long as they dont lose the head if things get iffy in the first 15 minutes like v cork or limerick
I'll have some of what you're on, Geezer.
Wow, even in their wildest dreams Galway fans can only imagine getting a draw :p
I do believe we can score, but I can't see us keeping a clean sheet. Hope I'm wrong. An early goal for us would set the cat among pigeons and should make for an interesting encounter.
Many coming down from Monaghan for this one?
There should be a fair few more than went to Athlone, I reckon there was about 100 in the away support there*. Depends how much of the Dublin-based support travel.
*I'm useless at estimating crowds, could have been 10,000 tbf.
