Seen on an other message board that this lad is thinking of declaring for us. His family are from Dublin, anyone hear anything else.

All I could find was this, which is probably the other message board you mentioned. In which case I'd have led you in a circle and will accept the full force of your wrath. :D
Seen him playing a few times and always thought he was quite composed for an 18 year old. Call him up. Great potential & can cover left back too.
On the other forum the guy posting says he heard it on "Radio at 7 this morning",
Not sure what he means by that, there is a RTE radio show, Sport at 7, but it is not
on in the morning. So I would not put to much weight on the words of someone
who can't even articulate where he heard it!!
Unfortunately not a newspaper which puts it's content on-line, or indeed a newspaper :)
Interesting bit here:-

John Flanagan left the England U21 squad earlier in the week to join up with England at U19 level instead to cover for injuries at that level for the match on Thursday. The Liverpool defender, along with Everton's Ross Barkley, missed the U21s European Championship qualifier with Iceland yesterday evening but both will return to the U21 squad now.
England U21s will face Belgium on Monday and Flanagan will hope to play some part in that match however the fact that he was asked to join the U19s tends to point towards this most likely not being the case this time round?
John still has plenty of years ahead of him though, in what promises to be a bright future, so further chances will come at various levels with England for the defender.

According to someone on that other forum:
Didn't someone on the last page of this thread say there was no immediate Irish connection on his father's side? If his uncle owned Flanagan's pub in Dublin though, then presumably Jon's paternal grandparents were from Dublin?Quote:
His uncle Christy use to own Flanagans on the South Circular Rd.
That has to be Flanagan's down at Rialto - The Bird Flanagan I think it's called. At the moment I don't see how his changing allegiance will affect the Senior side. If Kevin Foley can't make right full his own because of inferior size, then John Flanagan won't either.
Rumours that he's declaring for Ireland in a well known tabloid tomorrow.

@Richard_Buxton_ - Jon Flanagan coming on for #LFC as Shelvey extends the advantage. Interesting story on the defender in tomorrow's Irish papers...
All I'll say regarding Flanagan is that if you're in Eire tomorrow morning, pick up a copy of the Irish Daily Star #LFC
Aah, that point in a potential prospect's thread when the genealogy becomes reality. Allegedly.
I look forward to perusing the Shtar tomorrow.

YOUNG Liverpool right-back Jon Flanagan is understood to be on the verge of declaring for the Republic of Ireland.
The highly-rated defender, who turned 19 on New Year’s Day, qualifies through the so-called ‘grandparent rule’ and has apparently been ruminating on the decision for a number of months.
The Irish Examiner understands that, although there has yet to be any official contact between the FAI and Flanagan, he would be "welcomed with open arms" by the Irish set-up. The right-back has appeared for England U19s and U21s in the past year but reportedly feels that his long-term international future might be better served with Ireland.
Flanagan came on for Fabio Aurelio in the 71st minute of his club’s 5-1 FA Cup third round win over Oldham Athletic at Anfield last night and, just like his previous 10 appearances for Liverpool over the past season and a half, quietly impressed.
Should he declare for the FAI, then he could also solve a long-term problem for Ireland at right-back.

More of the same so. Still no definite evidence that he is declaring.
Do we have a long-term problem at right-back? O'Shea, Kelly, Foley, McSh-... well; all reasonably competent right-backs. The likes of Coleman, Wilson and Delaney could also do a job there if required, I'm sure. Strength in depth at left-back is the greater worry.
I'd definitely welcome a declaration from Flanagan though.
What does it say in the Irish Daily Star about him?
John Aldridge bigging him up suggesting that he'd get his debut within months of declaring...

Been told that #LFC's Jon Flanagan won't be switching allegiances to Ireland as he couldn't even he wanted to. Not even an Irish gran
Odd. So where are the Daily Star/Examiner getting their info?

We were given a tip-off that he qualifies and is interested. An FAI source backed it up. Then again, not the first time this has happened! I remember Brady talking about bringing in Kevin Nolan in Trapp's first press conference when he was no longer eligible.
Odd. So where is James Pearce of the Echo getting his info? :p
Well apparently "someone told him".
Who that someone is is unknown, maybe they read it somewhere on an internet forum.
It's all speculation really until someone can produce official documents.
He's a very long way from being ready for senior international level, any time I've seen him play for Liverpool last season he looked a liability. Hasn't had a look in this season after his early season error against Sunderland cost them 2 points ( sub last night ). In time he could be a good player or just as likely sink down the divisions...
