Are you serious? No doubting you, just I can't believe that this would be the case. When we're struggling for the league to survive, forget growing, they're cutting back on funding for CPO's?

On the first point, let's be open here - I suspect you and weecountyman are the same poster. Far too many parallels.
On your second point, feel free to provide a link. Any link will do. Just one. Links never were your forte, which is why wcm eventually got rumbled and suspended. You registered three days after wcm's suspension elapsed and have at least learnt to quote random meetings you've had rather than newspaper articles - fewer traces, but I suspect you're still the same enormously pompous bluffer you always were.
Feel free to take mock umbrage, but you did ask mew to clarify my comments.
? PS, I've sent you a pm to try stop this wumming, feel free to ask any questions you wish, I attempted to further clarify and hopefully make you ease off as it's all a little unbecoming. Much appreciated and I'd appreciate an end of namecalling, you're a moderator after all and I still don't get the world championship manager reference. Sorry.
PM replied to.
In the meantime, how's about that link to the Maltese prize money?

This was for the 2009-2010 season.
3rd paragraph from the bottom.Quote:
Birkirkara, who progressed to the second qualifying round of the Champions League where they narrowly lost to Slovakia’s MSK Zilina, are expected to earn up to €460,000 in prize money – €200,000 for winning the domestic championship and €260,000 for their run in the Champions League (€130,000 for every round).
For so many reasons this dramatic cut of over 500,000k is going to kill the league. Someone mentioned it only fair as there were cuts within the FAI as well. Fair enoughbut surely they didnt cut 5/7ths of their staff. Seems like absoulute madness to me and will see players being paid far less, with far smaller squads meaning more players out of jobs, more people heading to play in australia in a league which is no where near as good. And any player with a half decent offer from abroad will be off without thought. This league is being decimated bit by bit.
Noddy in a normal situation it would be devastating, though I suppose they're using their economic advisers to figure out how it all sits in the overall Irish economic context. Not that I disagree with you for a moment, it's just not good for the LOI, I mean, 5k for 8-10 in the Premier, it's saddening though what's worse is that it'll lead to a series of articles hammering the FAI on finances.
The cuts are fairly brutal all right but i wouldnt be calling it the death kneel for the LOI just yet.And remember its just not domestic or local football that is being hit hard by emigration, all sports across the board are having to deal with that drain.
Good point about the general challenge faced by sports, I heard it on the radio this evening and it's probably somewhere online, about a Clare GAA club (Wolfe Tones?) who couldn't field a team in Intermediate championship as they lost 11 players (not all to emigration but a fair number) out of a panel of 25. Maybe players going abroad to play part-time and work is going to be normal for the LOI.
The reports 'hammering the FAI' will be entirely justified. The top prize for winning the league is now considerably lower than it was in 1995!
Don't disagree eelmonster, they've proven themselves masters of cutting rods to beat themselves with, I just wonder if it will do any good? I'm surprised it's lower than 1995, I thought we were still well on past that. Would it be right to say, now, that winning everything will end up with a club grabbing c. 250k - 300k in prize money?
The top end of the prize money list is ok but the bottom end prize dosh is seriously distorted.
Where does the 19k registration figure come from?
Mentioned by a Galway poster. No idea if it's right or not, but P'Stu also mentioned something about 20 grand.
Lads the only way to hit the FAI is in their pockets avoid the International matches etc, clubs should set up a break away All ireland Leaue. Yes its been discussed before, but its different its unique and will attract crowds to games which our clubs need. It will attract TV better players to the league and will attract Sponsership. Linfield dont want it in the North as it will affect their deal with IFA and the money they get from using Windsor Park. All Ireland Rugby has been a success, look how its improved our International Team, look how its improved our Provincial Teams the same could happen to our fottball teams, we may not lose as many players to the bar stoolers league in England, but I think for our teams we would be better off, the fans would be better off and would have a better league (s) playing in an all ireland league and stuff Delaney and the FAI for good. Until we get rid of Delaney, Fran Gavin and co then our league is basically dead now
All of that stuff you just wrote about an All Ireland League is based on absolutely no evidence whatsoever.
And 150 people watching UCD v Distillery in a competition sponsored by a TV company but who didn't have a camera there even for highlights is clearly indicative of the massive step forward we're all overlooking.
If the clubs pull out of the LOI structure and form a breakaway league then it's goodbye to midsummer trips to Skopje, Stockholm and Samara. Unless the FAI sanction a new league run by a commercial entity, it's never going to happen, since the FAI will never allow it to happen, it means.....
It was put to me last night that there's a feeling within the league that the money saved by the FAI in prizemoney for the league, is being ringfenced for the LImerick friendly court case. The FAI statement at the time did mention the case would affect grass roots football (or similar).
INteresting thought. If the FAI are paying out less prize money than they get in affiliation fees, something's not quite right
Anything is possible, like in any authoritarian system the rumour is as solid as a fact.
At the time I took the statement to mean that the FAI were warning everybody that if (when?) the Endemol agreement was found illegal, the funding lost to clubs now able to hold 'big' friendlies would affect the FAI's coffers, rather than simply any compensation going to Limerick. If reports that Limerick budgeted for a profit of E80,000 are to be believed, compensation wouldn't be that much.
I took it to mean that the actual cost of defending the case would mean money going to solicitors etc would be lost to the game.
If Limerick win compensation, plus costs added to FAi legal costs, it could multiply quite quickly.
As I said, only a theory but it speaks volumes that at very least most fans think its plausible, if not probable
If we follow it through to a logical conclusion (if we allow the theory to take hold) then the FAI are looking to divide and conquer and basically intimidate Limerick out of existence. There is going to be a massive backlash if this continues, though a sly leaking of information through the many FAI friendly reporters would really pressure Limerick. Though if doing the right thing means Dundalk get less money this year as League Champions, so be it. This is a time for all clubs to just wait and see.
Ezekial, for 34 years I've been going to Oriel, wishing and hoping that the club would always be top dogs (or at least top the drogs), and before each season starts I hope against hope that we'll win the title (Premier or First, doesn't matter). It's beyond mental instability, Ardee doesn't have a space left, it's one of the few things that's worth bothering about in sports, that and seeing Louth win a Leinster before I die :-)
Dodge, I can say with my hand on my heart that I hope Pats win the cup soon, and while I'm crying poor mouth about Dundalk, I believed the club would go out of business in 99-2000 with the carry on that happened, and one cup in the meantime is not alot when the club had bee contenders, but I still hope that somehow they'll get it together and have a crack at Rovers. And the beal bocht helps to ease the pain :-) (poor little us, that's brilliant!).
I've been following Limerick senior football for 16 or 17 years, in that period we've won two Munster Senior Cups and a League Cup. I've never seen us play a top flight game. You're doing alright Spud!
Lim, count yourself lucky, you could be following a team like Cork who never played top flight in their history :-) Almost said Derry but forgot :-)
