Does anyone know anything about the 'Connacht' representative side, apparently they are playing this weekend, S/L sides: City Utd and Carbury have players involved so their league games this week are off.
Anyword on the Shield draw yet???
Fixtures for 17th Oct:
Connacht Shield KO 2pm
Western Rovers v Tuam Celtic
Crumlin v Glenview Stars
Cloonamahon Celtic v Ballyvarry Blue Bombers
Oranbay 90 v MCR FC
Moylough 79 v Dromore Villa
Hollister v Coolera Rovers
These are the Sligo fixtures for the Shield
Conn Cup 2nd fixtures involving Sligo teams:
Merville v Moyne
St Pats v Real Tubber
Cartron v Dysart
Crossmolina v Quayside
I would expect both home sides(Merville/Cartron) to progress. The two Sligo teams that have to travel can blow hot and cold. As for the Shield the only Sligo side I would be surprised not to see progress would be Coolera.
Whats the verdict from the other leagues??
Inver V Partry Home, Partry wont be to interested after a poor season and a long trip
Milltown V Ballyhaunis Away, Ballyhaunis very strong and will be looking to impress further on a great 1st season back in Mayo football
Clew Bay V CB Trotters Home, Clew Bay to keep good run going, espically after last weekends result
Achill V Bangor Hibs Home, Bangor will have lost interest after last weeks drubbing and relegation
Charlestown V Parkside Home, Cant see Charlestown slipping up at home
Glenhest V Ballyglass Away, tough to call but Ballyglass should be to strong for the Hesties
Kilmore V Galway Bohs Home, Long trip for the Galway men and with only 2 points from 15 it should be a home win
Crossmolina V Quayside Home, ont know about Quayside but i'll give home advantage the nod on this one
will take mervue v athenry for the final if kept apart, sligo /mayo teams not as strong
i think its a bit early to rule out the sligo/leitrim and mayo teams just yet. no question city and carbury from sligo
are very strong. carbury have signed 4 quality players from sligo rovers in the past forthnight. and ctiy if they get home
draws will be very hard to beat. i dont think they have lost a home game in 2 years. i do agree tat athenry will take some
stopping.
Bit early yet to be writing off all of Sligo/Leitrim and Mayo sides. How strong are the top sides in Roscommon?? Cant disagree with your call on Athenry though.
Any word on when the draw is made?? Is the Shield down to the last 16 already??
Thought Achill would beat Bangor but didnt know enough bout Quayside to make a proper judged prediction. So 20 Mayo clubs in the last 64 and I dont know why they have been written off already. Anything can happen in cup competition and im sure there wll be plenty shocks in the next round
any word on when the draw for the rest of the cup is???
havent heard anything on it yet. the third round is fixed for the 28th November so it should be out soon enough, will they do the complete draw or just the 3rd round??
any chance you might be able to post that, I'm involved with U-16's and we're still in FAI and Conn Shield.
The reason I said 28th for the third round is that is the date on the draw I got from Galway FA website, it had the 1st and 2nd round draws done. Sligo/Leitrim & Roscommon 3rd FAI is on 7th, Sligo/Leitrim have a free weekend on the 14th(SRFC in cup final), I hear the Oscar Traynor team are playing on 21st Nov, might be better for us if the Conn Cup isnt till December at least we'd get 1 league game in November, weather permitting?!?!
I take it that the draw hasnt been done yet, will it be next week?? Any word from ART Friel?
You can always count on Joe
Tie of the round has to be Castlrea Celtic v Ballina Town.
From a Sligo/Leitrim point of view:
Merville v Yeats, will go with a home win here
Ballygawley v Swinford, we have began to pick up some points lately, they will be lacking match sharpness, a tight home win?!!?
Ballymote v Athenry, Ballymote are a young side who knock the ball about nicely but will have to go for the defending champions
Strand v Corrib Celtic, home advantage to swing it
Cliffoney v Kilmore, long long trip for a ring rusty Kilmore, home win
Leitrim v Claregalway, dont know much about either side, home win
Quayside v Dynamo Blues, Quayside are getting their act together of late, Dynamo struggling in Galway Premier, toss a coin, home?
Boyle v NUI, Boyle have started to drop unexpected points, home advantage might swing it
Kilkerrin V Calry Bohs, Calry are struggling at the moment, home win
Cartron v Cloonfad, wont be many goals in this, away win
OLBC v City, away win
Ballisodare v Roscommon Town, town beat Strand in FAI, Ballisodare are never out of a game, tight home win
Aughanagh v Carbury, Aughanagh gave City a mighty scare last week, but will have to fancy Carbury to come through and go a long way
Moore v Manor, a long spin for Manor but should have enough to go through
By my guess work there will be 10 Sligo/Leitrim teams in the last 32, (probably be closer to 7/8)
Who is the Favourites this year? Surely Athenry must be. Anyone have any other fancies? City Utd?
I think Athenry would be due to meet Mervue in the 2nd round.
Castlerea, Ballina Town, Erris, Carbury, City are all in the same side of the draw and only one will make 1/4ers I think?!?!
But you'd have to back Athenry, they've won it 3 times in the last 4 years. I think Carbury would also have a serious shout this year
Has anyone got the full draw please? Looking for the Roscommon sides. Maybe you could link the draw if its available online,
Posted them earlier but they mightn't be friendliest formats.

Have Athenry strengthened their team this year(if thats possible) or have they lost any players?
Athenry have , in my opinion, actually strenghtened their squad but also lost Cathal Fahy to Canada. Benny Lawless returns after a seasons break & Simon Murray joined from corrib rangers..
The 2 corofin lads are back early along with Alan O Donovans brother, i think. Very strong squad with 8 or 9 players on the bench that would walk onto any premier team. Manager wont keep them all happy for long, but if they overcome a strong Mervue side (after a result against Ballymoate hopefully), i can see them doing well again.

Carbury v City
West v Hibs
longshanks you are thinking very far ahead!!!!!!
or have you got a time machine????? if so give me the results so i can go to the bookies
lets get the next round out of the way before we predict the quarter finalists
No time machine Jim Bob. Just thought it was interesting to break down the draw into pots for the 8 quarterfinalists. If you were to ask each league to nominate its top contenders for the Cup you'd probably get something along the lines of: Sligo/Leitrim - City/Carbury, Mayo - Ballina Town/Westport/Erris, Roscommon - Castlerea/Ballinasloe, Galway - Athenry/Mervue/Hibs. (apologies to anyone who thinks I've left out their club from the list).
Looking at how the draw is it looks like only one of Carbury/Ballina Town/Castlerea will make it out of pot 5, one of Ballinasloe/City/Erris out of pot 6, pot 5 meets pot 6 in the quarters. Pot 1 has 4 Sligo/Leitrim SL teams at home to other top flight opposition. Pot 2 looks llike Athenry/Mervue in the 4th round. Pot 4 has 6 mayo teams in it.
There could be a lot of high profile casulaties in rounds 3/4/5
Fairly decent predictions their Longshanks. Will be a few shocks along the way no doubt.
Quarter Finals
1 v 2
3 v 4
6 v 5
7 v 8
Home advantage could play a major part at this stage. Can't wait for November 28th!
i dont know enough about other teams outside mayo so i cant really predict. some big teams left in it for the slaughter. its all to play for im sure there could be a few shocks on the way with ballinasloe having to travel around 150 kms to play us. hopefully they will be very tired
Best of luck Jim. You must be a Clew Bay man. Where is that? Google maps says its near Westport. How far from Westport is Clew Bay?
Jim_bob, are many of the mayo teams still training?? we are to play Swinford
clew bay united is in louisburg it about 20kms to the west of westport town. im sure some clubs are doin a small bit of training just to keep fitness. some teams are still in both cups (junior cup and connaught) so the will have to train harder than others. its hard for clubs here though cos with the leagues finished over a month ago and long spells between rounds of cup matches.
swinford will be a hard game longshanks they are a very good side who played very well in our super league this year maybe home advantage might help ye
