It's been done. A bit before Sporting Franchise were on the scene, admittedly.

Witty banter is not your strong point is it :)
Are you sure Cork has been used before ?
Bohs v Fingal or vice versa is apparently on the provisional fixtures list, Bohs away I would have thought if they want to bump up the first series attendance figures.
And back on topic: Cork Rock Solid, sponsored by Pfeizer.

Some good suggestions there by the way .
Cork City 2010 Nice and handy for the next time when it can be Cork City 2012
Serious question, why is there a mid term break on the LOI?
In the middle of Summer when there is no pitch issues?
When the Kids are off school and might actually be able to persuade the fat bloke on the couch to take them to a game?
I could understand it if it was trying to avoid clashing with Ireland in the World Cup or some similar events which would stop the nation, but it seems a tad silly to me.
Because part time players want to go on a summer holiday. (and thats not being flippant, that is the actually reason)
Was it not initially set to avoid a clash with a world/euro competition?
And have to agree with Macy, the better weather means people will work that extra bit on their gardens. Hard to beat a cold dark winters night for a match, the atmosphere used to be class.
Most "summer" leagues take a break not for a chance for a week in Bundoran or Magaluf, but 1. to rest the pitches, 2. avoid the worst of the summer heat, 3. International competition, 4. to get/give trialists in "winter" leagues. In Ireland I don't understand it so much other than the holiday thing for part-timers. Being better in Europe is just one reason that is used to support the summer league but that was largely predicated on having a) full timers and b) playing regularly up to European competition, but unless I'm totally wrong, our break is just before the UEFA competitions begin.
I miss the games around the Christmas and New Year time.Atmosphere was better during "winter football".Granted you did lose the feeling in your toes midway through the second half of a game but the crowd got into the games more frequently and intensely.
I would rather the deadline for all to be in order a couple of months before the league begins (and a couple of weeks after the previous league ends), rather than a couple of weeks before its due to begin. This long drawn out stuff is just ridiculuos - I find it amazing that we'll all only know whose in the league and the fixtures a week or two before the league begins - its annolying and only helps turn people away from the league
Am I right or just hopeful in thinking that the fixtures might be out on Monday next? Presumably, this will either be just before or after an announcement to say that a decision about the future of Cork Surewhateveryourhavingyourself FC has been postponed, and that the current fixture list will be completely chucked out and re-written should the FAI have to actually make a decision on the matter, which would be on March 4th...
I saw somewhere (daily star yesterday ?) that the fixtures will be out on Tuesday next. I presume this is based on the licensing notices to be released on Monday. May be some revision required if issues are "appealed" but must surely be out next week to allow clubs prepare for first game.
I think everyone's been informally told their first few provisional games. I know at the moment we've got Harps at home first, then Mons away and then Shels away I think.
Yeah they certainly have a set of Cork in the Premier and a set of "a Cork club in the First" fixtures as far as I'm aware .
Todays mail on Sunday says that the LOI have made out 2 fixture lists, Bray will either be away to Dundalk or Derry appearently, depending on what happens with us .
Away to Longford and home to Salthill first 2 games afaik.
We're apparently home to Cork/Bray for our first game then away to Limerick and Waterford for our next 2
I hear we have Drogheda away first if that hasn't been mentioned yet.
Couple of young lads above in oriel this morning playing football and app Foster told them we are away to Cork first game.
We were supposedly informed a few weeks ago. Shams at home, Fingal away and Galway at home our first 3 fixtures.
Any idea when Sligo away is?
On a revenge mission to not get kicked out again? :p
If the rumours about the first round fixtures are true that means we have Galway at home again first, Hopefully a beter start than last season
Time for my annual whinge, that nobody should be told their fixture list in advance.Quote:

Clubs have to arrange travel to away match games or put plans in place for home games, both of which will differ depending on who the opposition is. Players have to arrange half-days from work. It makes perfect sense to give clubs the first few games, given the shambolic situation that we don't know what clubs are in what division yet.
You complain that seven months isn't enough time to arrange your trips to Ireland away games, yet you complain when clubs are given more than three weeks to arrange their first league game?
Schumi/PartySaint, I have heard we (Galway Unted) are away to Drogs, home to Cork/Bray, away to Sligo and home to Rovers (EDIT in our first four games) so something has gone wrong somewhere in the Chinese Whispers
Yep, I think clubs would be critical of how little notice they got rather than too much ! Lot of logistics involved in arranging games - especially involving part time players and ensuring ground/pitch availibility in some cases. There were two sets of fixtures released to cover the Cork/ Bray situation so the issue of who was in what division was never a major concern.
It makes a complete nonsense of pre-season planning. Managers and players need to know what their schedule will be like (especially part-timers), while clubs need to know for a bunch of reasons, not least knowing when to go for sales pushes, planning events etc. I know the FAI will claim that it's because they want to make sure the clubs are all in order etc, but why aren't fixtures out February 1st? Surely that would make sense (knowing what the answer already is).
