Maybe yes, but since he can play in 3 different roles (fullback, centre halve and middle of the pitch) he is worth keeping.

Ryan has been horrible this season. But he's not a horrible player.
Go back to the 2008 season. He was one of our players of the year. Could pick a pass out anywhere. Was lovely to watch.
He's had a hip injury since our second game of the season in Tallaght.
Selective memory is a great thing.
@srfcbrothelutd, you called me an adlum. personally thats your opinion and thats great thing about a forum we are all entitled to it. but i am confused as to what an adlum is. you use this word frequently so you must know what this insult is ??? and as for being one of the danny ventre worshippers you are wrong. i think he is a good personalty in the dressing room to have and a good utility player as he can play in many positions and gives 100% every time but i think he limited in his ability. i have stated this fact many times here so when ya want to insult someone with your makey up words at least get your facts right.......
you say richie was the best player in the final for first 20 mins !! what good is being a good player for 20 mins ?? a match lasts 90 mins in case you are wondering or maybe in your mind you make it up to be only 20 like you make your words up ??? fair play to ya for standing up for richie so profusely you obviously admire him greatly........ nothing like a good bromance to get the blood pumping !!!;)
Yea, I've heard it used before. My point is that he's dishing it out but obviously doesn't even know the origins of the word. Just using it because he heard somebody else saying it. For example, if I used the word "pleb" or "cretin" as a term of abuse I would know where the word originates as a term of abuse and what it means.
i think he just likes shouting his mouth off......... find it quite funny to tell ya the truth :D
So we've signed Richie Ryan, a midfielder who can't/won't tackle, win headers, take free kicks, corners or make forward runs, I feel effervescent. The bad footballers/management buddies drinking club is now complete
you mustnt play football if you think richie's useless
This argument is going nowhere.
So people who don't actually play the game are automatically wrong? What a bogus argument and one you have used many times before CF. You're the one who musn't have played football if you think Ryan is any good. I play plenty of football and I wouldn't be too happy if I was playing alongside him watching him waddle around hitting square passes and not putting a tackle in.
Anyways, as onlyonerovers has said, this debate is going nowhere and has been done to death on this forum. I'll be happy to eat my words if Ryan produces anything approaching a decent standard next season but I think it's unlikely.
And harping on about an injury all next year when he could have been offloaded now will cut no ice either. Cook has made the decision that he thinks that he is worth it.
If nothing else, I'm sure Kevin Quinn will be happy anyways.
Yeah Ritchie had a poor season last year but when he first arrived we were raving about him and he was going to be the next big thing in manys fans eyes. It didnt materialise last year. So this is his chance to try and prove the doubters wrong. But lets give all the lads a fair chance before slating them.
When Richie came in midway through 2008 I thought he done pretty well and even slotted in at left full for a couple of games and acquitted himself well.
However, last season he was very poor any time he was on the pitch. I know he was carrying an injury and all that but his off the field activities left a lot to be desired. If he can get back to the form he showed when he arrived then he will do a job, no doubt about that, and even better that he is now on a reduced contract. Has he actually had the operation on his hip?
I just hope its not the proprieter of The Thatch Ballisodare who will gain most from his re-signing!!!
Ritchie has the ability, but its up to him what he wants to do with it.
Its make or brake time.
Ryan was muck last season. No doubting that really, but he's not a muck player. He was, in my opinion, one of our best players in 2008 and I hope we can see the same next season.
This has been debated to death but to be fair to Ritchie he should have had the operation last summer but delayed it due to our small squad and battle against relegation. He couldnt train properly from the middle of june to the end of season yet could always be called upon when asked to play. I for one am willing to give him till july to prove himself again and if we can get him back to the form he was in for his first season he was here it can only be a good thing for Sligo Rovers.
can anyone actually tell me if richie ryan has had his operation because everyone was saying last year his bad performances were down to been injured. if he has not had his injury fixed whats the point in signing him. at least come july we will have a good discussion over who was right and wrong over richies abilities. i would nearly start a book on it. richie to get back to his best and be a starting 11 player 100/1 richie to be ****e again 3/10 on.........
well we can come back to this thread in july and someone will be right or wrong. again i ask has he had this MYSTERY operation he has needed for so long been carried out........ ye were raving all season that his performances were injury related and would be cured in pre season !!!
A good question and to be perfectly honest i dont have a clue!!while i wouldnt be a membershipvsubcription to his fan club as Dong put it, what i was tryin to say in an earlier post was a Richie Ryan of 2008 will certainly be an addition to our current squad(given that we only have 12 players) and i think hes earned the chance till july anyway to prove the naysayers wrong.
