Well Alan Murphy has signed for Derry, so I suppose we can concentrate on midfield now..... Good to see we didn't break the bank to pay silly money for him. May he prove to be as good a snatch of us as Moran was.....
according to my sources, Alan is chasing a midfielder from England who is on the expensive side and he's hoping to get as good a deal for us as he can, but because of the quality around it's hard work landing them.
Well good in one way, bad in another as it means no return of Stuey... :(Quote:

macy, macy ,macy.... your a big boy now and you have to understand that its only a dream....its time to move on.
I'm not getting your hopes up, just cos I was right before....
From what I was told from a source close to Murphy,Alan Matthews never approached him, think Murphy's still waiting for that elusive phone call from Matthews..From this source I know that Murphy would have been interested in coming to us,he didn't care about the money,Longford was handy while he finished his degree and he could still keep his job in Galway..I know that Aaron made an enquiry about him last season(before he went to Athlone)..Think Murphy would have been out of place in Longford, seeing that Matthews is turning it into a Dublin side!!!Anyway according to Matthews why go after Murphy when he has Baker (keep hallicinating Alan)Quote:

You're some muppet - the close season after our 2 most successful seasons ever and you implying that Matthews isn't up to it.Quote:

Don't know what your fúckin source is on, but the club spoke to Murphy, and his demands were €900 per week, 52 week contract. He wasn't willing to drop, so was told to do one.... Whether we talked to him when he came back from the trials I don't know, but we wouldn't/shouldn't have matched Derry's €700, 52 week contract for an unproven player.
Galway player, Dublin player doesn't matter to me. Like to see the locals making the breakthrough but only if they're good enough. Personally, I wouldn't like to see another overpaid Galway based player "training" on his own several times a week.
Why go after Murphy when we have kept Francis and Barrett (first choice), have brought in Keegan and Baker and still have young Murph. On top of that we can't offload hasbeen (nothing to do with Matthews, it was the committee's decision not to accept the money from Derry).
I second that, techs your full of **** and probably one of those who can't see anyone better than Kenny... Murphy was courted long enough and to say that that guy wasn't interested in money is beggers belief.

I think this best implys what exactly what your prepared to put up with and it's not good enough in the interests of LTFC. I can count at least 5 and maybe 6 times Lavine wasn't fit enough to catch a cold. What make you think Murphy would be any different for €900 a week. A team that trains together will win more than the scatterings of team such as Derry. Matthews has brought us our two most successful seasons and I believe that 3rd is within our grasp, that would be big news. If we were more killer at home we'd bve a cracking side....
so whats your problem with Matthews...
If some kind mod could move my post from the General forum on this point, cos i dont want to repeat myself..Basically what macy and Xlex have said..
what the other three said, best league record of any town manager EVER, nuff said.
I never once questioned matthews ability to achieve results in my above post. You want to be a fool to do that after what he has brought o us. What i stated about murphy was fact and my source isnt on anything except what longford pay him every week.
Another fact is matthews is the test achieving manager we have ever had, why question that?
As I have learned from this site constructive criticsm leads to name calling instead of a debate I thought this was a fans forum site for discussing football not a girly site for b*tch at each other but maybe I was wrong.
900euro a week I would love to see that contract as it was never demanded,as no official contact was made by longford before or after the trial in england/scotland. As far as murphy was aware we were never in the hunt for him.
Fair enough Techs, suppose it might to much for us to look two ways at this. I heard Murphy was been courted by Matthews around the Galway game. I had it from a number of places that Matthews was talking to him and that his terms were excessive.
Now, you have to look at your post and say that you did question our most successful manager... because of that we jumped on you.
I've got of on the wrong foot with many, but one think I can't let go is that post and what I felt was an attck on Matthews. another is the Cup final thing on wheither Francis or Lavine start the cup final.
There's good reason for our focus on players from Dublin, it's working, I'd never bother questioning something which works.
Techs, its not a personal attack but either your source or Alan matthews are not telling the truth. I heard Alan Matthews say himself that after he'd rang Alan Murphy his agent rang back and said his terms were 900 euros a week 52 weeks of the year..Alan Matthews was not interested at that price and told the agent he wasn't proven enough to demand that type of cash..Interest in Murphy cooled at that stage from all clubs and his agent came back with lower terms..His father even rang Alan Matthews to see if he was still interested.Terms had more or less been agreed in principle when Murphy got trials in England, before he left he said to Alan that he'd be happy to sign if nothing came of his trials and it was left at that..On his return he felt he now deserved higher wages again and the deal was off again..He then started talking to Derry nad the last contact that was had with Alan Mathews was when terms had been agreed with Derry..Alan asked the agent what the deal was and decided there was no way he could match it..Either Alan Matthews is a liar or your source is wrong..To say we weren't in for him is ridiculous, even the Derry people could tell you we were talking to him..
Heard it from the horses mouth (Murphy himself), that he never once spoke to Alan Matthews..He was told that Alan was going to ring him and he's still waiting..He never got anyone to thrash out a deal with what he said himself was 'ridiculous money'..I believe Murphy on that..He never once agreed to come to us because he never spoke to anyone from the club before or after his trials with Burnley and Aberdeen...Feel sorry for the guy when false rumours about his excessive wage demands are going around...
How the fúck are they false when that's what he told us, Pats and Derry (those are the only one's confirmed). You'll also have noticed that no one from Derry has denied that figure that was quoted by Longfordian. FFS even Derry have said we were talking to him....Quote:

Dublin City approached him, he was looking for €900 a week. don't know about the 52 weeks a year, but he was definitely looking for that amount. So don't know why you'd feel sorry for him, his getting a bit above his station.Quote:

that's three club whom state €900 per week...

As opposed to hearing from the player, through a mate's mate... :rolleyes:Quote:

Macy, still third hand info as you will agree...offical statements are the only "truth"... it would be very unprofessional for any club to comment on private talks with a player whom they did not sign....
at the end of the day he has only been a division pne player and for any club to fork out that sort of money for a player that is unproven at the higher level so madness to me.
Still, hard to believe that the same figure was plucked from the air by 4 clubs.
Too much anyway, even at the reduced rate, and Keegan as player/coach (which I hope he is), then Matthews made the correct move.
Believe it or not, I'm not that interested in what the players earn... However, I won't let someone spinning on a players behalf bullsh!t about the club/ Matthews when it's common knowledge that we were talking to him or his representative. There's plenty of other things to justifiably attack the club on - like the lack of news on the accounts, where we are at licence wise, this rumoured increase in ticket prices, the website etc etc...
Going to leave Alan Murphy now but what I was told by him was that he wanted to come to Longford, was told that Alan Matthews was going to ring him but he's still waiting for the call..To quote Matthews "why go after Alan Murphy when I've got Dessie Baker."
On the subject of Keegan,he's not coming as coach this season, Alan has got a coach (a familar face to the club) but not going public yet (his words not mine)....
I have heard who it is! Lets play a game and guess the initials of the first three parts of this mans name which was mentioned to me in good faith at the weekend!Quote:

And the words are.....
D.O.N.
Anyone who gets this I will buy them a buckfast for breakfast!:D
Don Juan Demarco, the week that's in it an all?
Does DON have his badges and it's a shame we can't leave the Kenny era behind us... Keegan's signing is all the more weird...
I am not sure that he is fully qualified. I will find out tommorrow.
Keegan is goin to be doin some coaching as well as far as i've heard..He has some coaching badges and wants to do more..Derek O' Neill is a highly qualified coach, he's attached to us for this season as he needs to be coaching at a senior club to get his UEFA Pro Licence..Highly regarded by those that had him before i believe..
Edit those last 2 sentences out, Longfordian, just to avoid trouble...
RDO's aren't allowed be attached to any one club. They are supposed to work for the good of the whole region.
Maybe i got it wrong then...
