Oh well, I wouldn't have any worries about Alan Gough in goals anyhow even though he doesn't want to be playing.

Not a chance ... and true to my word, after we left Athlone we realised that we had no blu-tac ...
there'll be a shop in Ballymahon was a suggestion but I made sure we stopped in Glasson to pick it up there. :D
Was great top see 2 of our younger fans follow suit too and arrive to the match with bags of sweets
bought in Athlone :D
Ash, I saw some of your photos on the Athlone forum... Anywhere to see them all??
We could not create any decent chances. Oncve we got to the 18 yard box it all broke down. Was a nice spring evening for the match though :)
Yep, uploading them now so they'll be online Here soon
Not exactly a Crock Of Gold at the end of this rainbow!!!

It was a crock alright.
I am feeling awful demoralised after saturday night. Athlone seem to be more hungrier than our boys.I am afraid to say it but this is Athlones best chance to finish ahead of us in a long long time.We had only one chance in the first half but only for des hope clearing off the line from a jim sheridan shot it might have have crept over the line. :(
Oh well hope it will be a different story for tomorrow night. I assume alan gough will be in goal again. The sooner Knopka comes in the better as Alan is much suited to being on the sidelines.
Whereas...

This team im afraid will do nothing this year. There is no midfield whatsoever. We have some decent backs (God bless Tom King as the guy runs himself into the groud all the time) but theres nothing in the middle. Getting Vinny Perth back would have been a strong notch up on what we have. I feel this could be a long season & we staill have to play Shelbourne, UCD & Fingal yet. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
And yes yes yes I know rebuilding etc....
Totally agree nothing in midfield at all, any team we come up against with a a half decent midfield will easily over run us. We have no bite in there at all. Hopefully a couple of changes in there for next game. The back 4 of King McCarthy Sheridan Kenny is decent and hasnt conceaded many, a strong midfield would add to their stability.
Can anyone post up the team and subs used for the game against Athlone on Sat night? Please!!!!:D
Alan Gough,Kenny,Sheridan,McCarthy,Glynn,McCartney,Russ o,Jinks,Stephen Gough, Murphy
Subs: Harte and Curran

Another ****e result tonight.
Four successive defeats now. Let's hope we're not on our way to challenging last year's record. I know we've no money but it's disappointing for everyone when we lose to teams around us like Wexford and Athlone. Especially the latter as they've even less money than we do by all accounts. Wasn't at tonight's game by the way so I don't know what the team was like or how they played, just going on the result.
We were certainly better than Saturday but not good enough to win or even draw. Had a few chances but there seems to be a lack of confidence, which is probably to be expected given the current run.
Onwubiko scored to cracking goals, frustrating considering we had him on trial but never signed him. They missed a good few scorable chances too in the second half, could have lost by 4 or 5 in the end.
Teams around you? You're in 10th, we're in 5th. ;)
I was thinking that about Onwubiko too actually, he impressed me on Saturday and obviously did well again tonight. Real pace and an attacking instinct about him. Ok atfc, teams we'd expect to be around would be more accurate.!
Who did Lee and Curran come on for? I'm not in the country for the year so I need all the help I can get to be kept in form on things back in Flancare. Not too sure about extratime.ie because they don't seem to be too accurate by all accounts. Is Shane Harte back with us? They say he is???
And what sort of a team had we out in Lissywollen?
Nope he isnt i presume its a mix up with Eoin Hoare. Noboby has mentioned him being back as far as i have heard.
Given that we sacked him last year it'd be pretty surprising if he was back and he's not back as far as I'm aware either.
Curran came on for Russo and Lee came on for Stephen Gough I think.
I was at both matches, and it was clear to see that Athlone wanted it more than us. they put in twice as much effort as we did in the 2 games. not signing onwubiko or whatever his name is was a big mistake. last night was awful depressing to watch.:(
im awfully down in the dumps too.. its a pity brendan place wasnt offered a position with us when he finished runners up to alan gough in the interview process. emeka is too good for the first division another footballer who slipped thro our grasp..
can i question the management without gettin slated on this....not enogh heart talent in the team to be perfectly honest, owaw was a big loss not singing him, obviouols him and glynn can score goals, the 2 of them together would be lethal....bad judgement...
Need to regroup and get a good result up in Mervue.
No point writing them off yet. We'll have to give the management a chance in fairness, we need a bit of stability even if things aren't necessarily perfect at the moment. A win in Mervue would be a help all round.
were missing goughs presence on the sideline. He cant run the team from in goal so the sooner konopka gets in goal we might get our stability back. Its a different game on the sideline than when your in goal.
when you think of it town have lost the last four games .Alan gough played in three of those or four im not sure but tallonted is right if he was on the sidelines we could have done better!!
The manager did say that he learned heaps about the players when he was playing in goal, what their strengths and weakness are. i suppose that can only add to the team when the american buck takes his place and gough is back on the sideline.
hopefully...
