Absolutely no contest here.
Fred Davis - The Legend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The first half of his stay at Shels Williams has to get a mention, i just think he fell out of favour and then started to decline after that.
Alex Ludzic was without doubt the best ever to have played on any team in Cork. Devine does deserve a mention but to be honest i think its definitely Ludzic
The guy whio used to play for Shels in the mid nineties was the best i have seen think it was Gough.
UCD LoI Greats.
1 Alan O'Neill
2 Barry Ryan
4 Darren Quigley
5 Paul Kavanagh
6 Pat Jennings.
Matti Gregg is one in the making.
Ever heard of Alan Kelly?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Kelly,_Sr.
47 caps and all that, not as good as Anthony Fennelly though.
Shane Dunphy, Waterford and Wex Youths
Gough, but honourable mention must go to Tom Lally (the postman always delivered) who was also adept at scoring and if memory serves me right was our leading scorer one season.
Dermot Flavin .. .or ex-Man Utd Pat Dunne!
No way can he be put up there as one of the best goalkeepers in LOI history.
He was a good shot stopper end of. No good at crosses, prone to howlers & all in all not that great a keeper.
He wouldn't be near anyones list in the IL of being one of the top keepers ever.
To think DJ nearly signed him as Alan Mannus was seen as too inexperienced, thank f**k it fell through and now we have a Northern Ireland international and best keeper in the Irish League and possibly in any domestic league on this island (obviously this is arguable it's just my opinion).
But if Gough is one of the best keepers in LOI history, then you must have had a low standard of goalkeeper down their (and this isn't me WUMMING)
Alvin Rouse.
Close this thread now because any other answer will just be wrong
It does indeed serve you right. Well, partly right. First season in league he scored 4 penos to make him join top scorer that season with, I think, Paul Martin. Ex Celtic player too, silly of me to omit him from my list, and he still goes to Terryland for every United home game
1.Chippy Devlin
2.Josh Moran
3.Boo Kelly
4.John Walsh
5.Nicky Broujos
6.Eddie Van Boxtel
7.Alan O Neill
8.Pat Trehy
9.Alan Young
Played in front of all of the above, all had different qualities, all had the same favourite shout "AWAY".:)
:DMorgan Cranley
After his heroics in the Brandywell this year, my vote goes to Gavin Peers;)
Shane Curran is one goalkeeper I'd love to give a good steaver to the ******.
Aiden " Jacko " Smyth
Sean Cooney
No Charlie McCormack or Paul "Flash" Brogan? :)
The first LOI game I ever went to was Shamrock Rovers vs Sligo Rovers around '78 or'79. The keepers were Alan O'Neill and Alan Patterson. I'm not sure I've seen two better keepers ever in the LOI. Jody Byrne was a lynchpin of McLaughlin's great Rovers side but was never a patc on O'Neill. Richie Blackmore of Dundalk was great, and a mean guitarist too even if he is now some sort of weird wizard or something.
The best keeper's I have seen play in the LOI are listed below;
1. Richie Blockmore
2. Alan O'Neill
3. Dave Henderson
The most under rated keeper is former GUFC goalkeeper David Forde, now 1st choice at Millwall, Trap should give him a chance with Irish team as his a much better goalkeeper than that Westwood guy, Nicky Colgan and the youngest of the Henderson goalkeeping clan Wayne.
I will never forget Alan O'Neill one day in the RDS for Dundalk. He was amazing, musta saved about 6 or 7 point black one on ones from Derek Swan. Rovers dominated the match, Dundalk sneaked a goal on the break and O'Neill ensured they got the 3 points. An outstanding display of goal keeping. Treacy signed him back for Rovers at the end of that season.

Dermot O'Neill, legend.
